Barring unforseen obstacles (or more likely, some sort of incompetence on my part), I will be hitting the road towards my new life in California on the morning of November 3. My schedule puts me in the Bay Area the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 4, anyone wanna hang out with me? Mig had suggested the Conga Room, which I've never been to before, but I'm game for anything. I'll throw it out to you locals for discussion.

Looks like we're doing Trader Vic's, here's the roll call:

Humuhumu

Humu -
Too bad you're juuust missing Thrillville's screening of Casino Royale in Oakland that week, with a live performance by Project Pimento! That's just two days later on Thu 11/6, hosted by TC's AquaZombie. I'm bummed that I'm missing it too, traveling to glamorous Camp Lejeune, NC that week.

Quick aside to bay area people - highly recommended Jackie & the Cedrics show in SF that Saturday, Nov 8!! Japanese surf-a-boing-boing.

-Randy

Late addition: Don't wanna hijack this thread any further, so additional info about the Cedrics' shows is in a Beyond Tiki thread:

I say we meet at Trader Vic's. Vic's has some drink specials on weeknights lately, you can't beat the atmosphere, and they LOVE us there! Tonga Room is another option - they have happy hour on weeknights 5-7. You pick Humuhumu, and I'll be there.

Jackie and the Cedrics are coming back - yaay! Thanks for the info Randy.

Vic's or Tonga sound great....

But I just might open the Foggy Grotto if there's enough interest.

(If people don't wan't to come out to the Richmond, just say so- I won't be hurt)

Thoughts?

Either Vic's or Tonga sound great. My memories of the Tonga Room are hazy at best ('cept for the coat check girl -- she was wild). When I was at Vic's, we were in the bar, and I'd love to spend time in the dining room this time.

Since I'll be wanting to get a hotel near wherever we meet, I might prefer Vic's, since it'll be so much more affordable. If anyone wants to split the room with me & not worry about having to drive until the next morning, you're welcome to share. Slumber party! I'll wear my Vic's PJs!

Martiki - I'd love to hang out in the Foggy Grotto beforehand, but is it a rough drive from there to Vic's during rush hour?

If you want to stay near Trader Vic's the Holiday Inn Emeryville is your best bet. It's around $100 but it has great views from the rooms. It's an easy pleasant walk from Vic's.

Let's plan on Trader Vic's. Does 6pm work for everyone? I'd like to get the time nailed down quickly so I can send a message out to the Bay Area party list. I've started a roll call, give a shout here in the thread if you haven't already so I can get an accurate head-count for the reservation.

Martiki: I remember you got a reservation at TVs the last time I came through, and we ended up having to do the bar instead of the dining room -- do you remember why?

T
thejab posted on 10/27/2003

6PM is fine. They are real accomodating lately about sitting in the dining room. It used to be strictly for dinner service but the last time Formikahini was here, they allowed us to sit in the dining room with her even if we weren't eating. Just tell them Tiki Central and you shouldn't have a problem especially on a Tuesday.

M
martiki posted on 10/28/2003

6pm sounds good to me- not sure I'll be in town, but I'll try. I'll be happy to talk to them for you and get a reservation- just gimme a head count.

Rum Barrels for all!

I can make it by 6:45 or so, so 6pm is good enough for me!!---brrruce!

No, just in San Francisco.

I'm about to unplug my computer to load it into the car (NOOOOOOOO!!), so I won't be able to keep tabs on the plans for Tuesday. Can someone (Martin?) please send the info out to the local party list so folks like TikiMama get the word?

See you sooooon!

If you stayed at the Hyatt in San Francisco, you could take BART to the Mac ARthur station (about $5.00 round trip) and take a taxi to Traders Vic's from the Bart station(my guess maybe $10 or so one way).
Figure almost an hour traveling time if you do this.

We have "The Office", a private room for 10 diners, booked for 6pm, under my name "Martin Cate". If we go over 10, then we can have the Outrigger room. So far we have exactly 10:

HumuHumu
martiki6
Rebecca
tiki-bot
mrs.pineapple
mig
frenchy
thejab
tikimama
melintur

If you're on that list and you can't make it, email me asap, and if you're not on that list and want to go, email me asap anyway! martincate at mindspring dot com.

Thanks and aloha to Humu2!

Woo Hoo! We are up to 15 people and we will be in the Outrigger Room. Still for 6:00 pm and still under my name. As always- email me if there are any addtions or cancellations.

There's a rumor (unconfirmed) that we will have a special appearance tonight by a secret mystery guest. Here's a hint: His name rhymes with Lanford Hemoore.

Here's to loading up on mid-week Fogcutters!

M

yES, Martin, fogcutters are good, but tonight I say "nothing beats a Mai-Tai"

M

OK- but I'll probably need a Navy Grog, too.

On public transport tonight, so the sky's the limit.

Oh, and don't be discouraged, but the rumored sighting of "The Elusive One" has faded once again into the mist. I believe he can be seen at the Magic Castle Seance with Weird Uncle as discussed in another thread....

Thanks to everyone for coming out to greet me, it was a fantastic time. Big mahalos to the Famous Mister Smiley for wiping the duck off me. Martin - in the rush to gather up my things, I accidentally left a certain incriminating dossier at the table; I'll try calling the restaurant tonight, hopefully they still have it, but do you have the negatives??

It's a long story, but it has something to do with the best reality show (or sitcom) never filmed...It's starting soon, Z, and it's in your house.

I do have negatives...and scans....heheh.

I'd just like to add the following to this thread, as I just stumbled across this receipt the other day.

Here's how we welcomed HumuHumu:

3 Navy Grogs
2 Fogcutters
6 SF Style Mai Tais
2 Rum Punches
2 Munich Sours
3 Mai Tais
3 Cokes (who did this!?)
1 Molokai Mike (If you haven't tried it...don't.)
1 Scorpion
7 Gun Club Punches

Beverage total: $236.50

Not to shabby for a weeknight, if I do say so myself.

H
Humuhumu posted on 12/30/2003

That's can't be the whole bill... if you'll remember, I had that individual-size Scorpion, which came with that gardenia I was snorting all night. I don't remember what else I had. :

p.s. -- never mind, just spotted my scorpion on that list... I just came from Purple Orchid, I guess I've had one too many tonight. :)

p.p.s. -- Martin, you didn't get stuck with the bill that night, did you? I don't specifically recall paying for my dinner. Yikes! Let me know if I owe you.

No the bill came out even- and strangely enough- you did pay, because I had your visa slip! I just threw it out the other day (shredded first, of course), figuring you didn't need it at this point. So if you start seeing a lot of strange online charges at various tiki establishments show up on your bill, just decline them, say your card was stolen, and we'll share in the spoils. mwahahahaha!
