what wood is good?

this is my first time carving and was wanting to know what type of wood would be the most friendly to my beginner skills ? what is the best way to season the wood , how long will it take . would anybody know of an available supply around the jacksonville or daytona areas of florida. thanks for the help |

Welcome eljefe1964Glad you found your way to TC. Some easy woods to carve for a beginner are cabbage or sabal palm. it doesn't need to cure much at all. It is fairly soft but stringy. Great to learn on and plentiful in Florida. |

Hey, this is exactly what I was going to ask! Is this type of wood good for masks, wall plaques? Or it best for just tiki and/or tiki totems? |
