Buzzy, those Tiki's Bar & Grill mugs are from Waikiki. They are current mugs that they sell there, my friends grabbed the surfer girl when we were there a few months ago. Tiki's makes those for themselves, they sell them for cheap and usually have bright colors on them. They are only sold at Tiki's connected to the Aston Waikiki.

This looks like a real Steve Crane Coconut but it's unmarked. Very heavy and solid. Were all of these marked? Is it real?

It's probably this, although there are no pics in collections right now:

The notes in price sightings on this page state that it is identical to the Steve Crane Mug.

Thanks, you are correct. Here is a lousy picture from the Orchids coconut images.

Still pretty cool for $2.12

This weekend's finds: a Orchids Volcano Bowl and Mauna Loa Detroit Salt and Peppers.

So i've been back in the U.S for just over three weeks now and i think i've done pretty well for myself so far. Here's all the stuff that i've found up until now in pretty much the order i bought them.

First a Coco Joe's from a swap meet and the two wooden carvings from two different antique stores in Bisbee. The one on the right is half of a S&P set from Samoa.

All of this was found in the same store and cost me a total of $39.82. Very happy with this haul.

Book from a second-hand bookstore and the bobble head, which was too tacky to leave behind, from a Goodwill.

This was from a day thrifting. The two shirts and the Coco Joes were from an antique store and the books and pineapple bowls from couple of different thrift shops.

Very cool pewter pineapple bowl from a thrift store.

This book i had read about a long time ago but never tried to hunt it down. I was fortunate enough to find it on the shelf in a second-hand bookstore.

From the same Goodwill i found the bobble head. Yes i know they are really tacky, but for $5 each i wasnt going to pass them up. I'd never find anything like this back in Australia so a couple of corny tiki torches for the garden at that price is OK by me.

I absolutely love this pineapple cushion. Same thrift store as the pewter bowl. I didn't buy it when i bought the bowl but decided i really wanted it. I went back twice and they were closed both days. Fortunately it was still there the next time i went back.

A small souvenir outrigger canoe from a thrift store.

These two i got at a yard sale for $3 for both. The thing on the left is an alarm clock and the little tiki drummer bangs out a great drum solo on the skulls. Probably my most favourite find so far.

And last but not least, i found a Jenny Haniver at a second-hand bookstore. Very surprised to come across this, and although i'd love to keep it i'm not sure it would get through customs when i go back home so i'm in negotiations at the moment to trade it.

I'm here for another 9 weeks so hopefully i'll find a heap more stuff that i can post here.

P.S. I also found two other aloha shirts thrifting and was at a private party in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago and there was a guy doing live painting who liked my pendant i was wearing (one of the ones i make) and i offered it to him for a trade and he gave me these two prints for it. Was pretty happy with that.

Some of my thrift store / estate sale finds this week...

Bought a lot of matches at an auction... these were in the lot.

A cool vintage ashtray...

A copy of Trader Vic's Cookbook for $.50!!

Some cool vinyl... check out the text on the Rat Fink album:

G

That rat fink record is so weird I had to try to find some more info. Here is a great article about Jackie Kannon and his ties to the mob and Roulette Records: http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2012/03/mobsters-rat-finks.html

Very interesting read.

Great read! Thanks for the link...

The wife and I did the custody shuffle and it worked out that we had the 4th of July to ourselves... so we spent the day combing antique and thrift stores for treasures. Tiki items are tough to come by in this area (Western Kentucky / Northwest Tennessee). You Cali folks don't realize how lucky you are... although, I ignore items everyday at shops that you can't find on the West Coast... so I suppose it's a trade off. That being said, I think we made some great finds:

This Dee Bee Co. parrot:

A most excellent wooden Buddha:

This brass and copper diving helmet... the front glass is missing, but I got it at a sweet price:

A cool Hawaiian tourist souvenir:

I was thrilled to find this:

These carved wooden cups... I can't find info on them anywhere. If anyone has any insight, please lemme know:

And another tourist item... this dude is outta control:

All in all... a good day.

BK

Found a few things in recent weeks.
A nice Skipper Kent's mug

Homemade, ceramic Moai, signed & dated from1964.

BK

BK

Couple of thrift store finds today....

Nice find on the shakers! I've only been able to find swizzle sticks from there.

Okay, so Vermont is pretty much a tiki collecting wasteland. Have never found any muggery, statues, authentic carvings, or the like. But every once in a while I find wacky stuff, like I found yesterday. Homemade sea urchin candleholders...who knew?

And some cute little wood/tapa style S&P shakers. Look very 70sish.

I'm in the same boat. I'm in Kentucky... not Kentiki. That being said, those sea urchin candle holders are awesome!

KonaKaiBaby I'd call that a score.

hang10tiki I like that little tiki, good find.

Bought this 4-foot resin tiki at an antique store. It was originally part of a set of two. At this size it must have been a display of some sort. Anyone seen it before?

S

Pretty happy with my finds at a Goodwill yesterday. A subtle but cool aloha shirt. A two-faced mai tai glass marked Sheraton Princess Kaiulani on one side and Honolulu, Hawaii on the other. And a great book about the art of the Sepik River.

There's some information in the front of the book and a few colour photos but the majority of the photos are in B&W. Here's a few pages from it.

These next two were from another thriftstore. The first is a book about Hawaii. I pretty much bought it for the one picture shown in the photo. It was only $1.00.

And this was $3.00 with 75% off, so it only cost me 75c. Unfortunately there are only three pictures in it that are Polynesian related (including the cover photo which is from Easter Island), just about everything else is from various other countries, although the museum catalogue (that was surprisingly still with it, considering it is from 1957) does list a few pieces from Melanesia.

Found a few items, this week.

U

I recently picked up two Trader Vic's partial bottles. Both are marked copyright 1963 on the labels. One is Trader Vic's NAVY GROG RUM and the other is Trader Vic's NAVY GROG MIX. The rum is about half full and the mix looks like it was used once. Is there any chance they are still drinkable...without dying? :)

G

The rum is probably fine. I'd avoid the mix.

Just needed to brag about my clever wife.
We found this hand-carved mask (it is 18 inches long in total)
with the word "Jamaica" crudely painted on the forehead.
I have nothing against Jamaica, but there is nothing especially
Jamaican about this fellow, and after a bit of sanding and painting
by Clever Wife, he is now the all-purpose island mask he was born to be.

I live on the Northwest coast, and I gotta say the variety of
Pacific Ocean themed stuff we see around here seems to be better than many areas...

T

This has been a good couple of weeks for tiki!

Found this fellow at a thrift store last week. Seems like I remember seeing it some where, but can't find it on Oog-Mooga. Any one know it?

Then I found these fellows at a Goodwill beginning of the week.

But this was the big score...

I walked right past the green Sneaky Tiki and Trader Pangs mugs and almost missed them. Super stolked to find a vintage Mr Bali Hai, in such good shape. Still has the OMC sticker on it. It's always amazing to me how these things travel, finding a San Diego mug up here in Portland...

And then there were the Home Depot Tiko Diablo totems and the Tiki Kon loot. Yup, good couple of weeks for tiki...

Bucket list find for me from craigslist-

Complete boxed set of Trader Vic's Suffering Bastard Tiki mugs. Has the original grass and swizzle sticks too!

Later,

PTD

Good to see you still at it D. Nice score!

S

A little bit of his right foot has broken off but i was very happy with my kava kava man carving i found at an antique store yesterday. It's about 12" high.

Nice finds Robbie, glad that you are enjoying your trip.
CeCe and I have stayed at the Princess K several time in recent years. We’ve never seen that dbl. faced mai tai glass.
The P K is next door to where the International Mrktpl. was located.
See ya at Oasis

Slow month or so, but a few things trickled in here and there

29" PNG storyboard

I like the drum on this PNG Emblem

12" Palau hut I got from HB at ITMP.

Larger resin KU Guam mask

Standing heitiki I got from Tikishaker at ITMP

Looks like a Tapa drink menu or photo holder

15' x 21' piece of tapa mounted on some backing material

Split it in half and you could pretty much cover a 10 x 10 room floor to ceiling with it.

Buzzy Out!

T

Great finds all! It's been damn slow lately for me here in Texas.

Based on recent luck, I considered myself very lucky to find this little mug yesterday at goodwill. No marks, just a made in japan sticker on the bottom.

R

Today's find....two forgotten tiki bobs sitting on the laundry machine at an estate sale...$8 ea., San Francisco location.

Score!

UT

Though not strictly Tiki we all know how nautical design has always blended well in the classic Polynesian bar setting. That's why I couldn't pass up the $55 asking price on this awesome antique ship's port light. It's big, crusty, dusty and dented. In other words perfect. It has a hole in the bottom but all the better to electrify it and put it in my home bar. I have drooled over these lanterns for years but the high prices have always turned me away. It is a rare maker as well and I feel very lucky to have found it.

Great finds guys

This weeks stuff:

French book on the history of Polynesia

I bought a huge lot of matchbooks. Here's the tikish ones I found on the first sorting:

And some girly ones

Buzzy Out!

S

I guess it was worth getting up so early for the flea market. Scored this really cool plate. Found a few more Trader Vic's swizzle sticks as well.

Buz- nice work on the matches
Swiz- kool

Pretty good week so far...

Nice score on those Witco stools!

ET- what Luna said

G

Sometime the sleeve is harder to find than the record which I bet is the case with this one.

This weeks stuff;

Some little island wood carvings

Island Art tiki

Coco joe bottle opener

Fez

Buzzy out!

T

Today's mega score. Cleaned out an estate sale of all their tiki stuff for a grand total of $28!

Hello,
we have alot of the tiki farm mugs in our collection and my wife wants to get rid of them, hundreds from 2003 till 2013. I am just starting to post them on ebay under tiki-liquidators, but it will take me weeks to put them all up. Some of the ones I put up went quick and I know some are very rare. Just FYI at some point there might be jackpot ones to get. they will keep coming. We had them in our store and were collecting them for years. http://www.ebay.com/usr/tiki-liquidators?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

Wahine went hunting while I was at work
She came home with this lil guy
:)

Just a couple acquisitions over the last couple weeks. The Trader Sam's mugs are gifts from some friends who went to WDW (in lieu of the Nautilus that they tried to get but was sold out). The record was from a thrift shop that only had German, Hawaiian, and Mexican music LPs for some reason. The table was $3 at a yard sale. Now the problem with the table is that we don't actually have a Tiki bar, just a kitchen decorated in Tiki stuff. It is insurance against a future Tiki bar :)
