Maori face I think is chalkware. I usually avoid buying broken or repaired stuff, but it was cheap, and too cool to leave. Dang that chin though!

GROG I agree with you. Dan collects by what he likes to look at and these fit his desires.

nui 'umi 'umi I think the bone was the best part.

I guess they are homemade by someone with a great skip saw. The number of stacked pieces shows that many days and hours were put into these. We are glad to have them.

Buzzy, to fix that chin use Elmer's wood putty, many thin coats. When dry sand and crave it. Then it's ready to paint.

I just got this Trader Dick's mug to add to my now-growing collection. My first tiki mug actually featuring a tiki or from a "historic" tiki establishment.

Not any kind of exciting vintage find, but I picked up Frankenstein and Cthulhu here from HMV the other day. They're selling these "Halloween tumblers" (as well as a vampire and an evil clown) as a promotion.

Buzzy the Vanuatu mask is outstanding. Can you tell if the Tommy Bahama mugs are identical or different. I've always wanted to know if they were hand painted or some kind of a decal. They are the best looking mugs that I've ever seen produced in a mass quantity.

Jon, I love this tiki so much I printed a photo of it to inspire my work in the future. Great score.

Wendy, Hope you don’t mind me chiming in--I too am anxious to hear what the Buzzman has to say about the “Kimono Lady” mug.
I have one and imho they are hand painted and also have decals applied to the red dress. My wife disagrees. She thinks its entirely hand painted. She is usually right. I also have the Kimono Lady lamp. Almost exactly like the mug. It’s about half again bigger and there are no flowers on the dress.

The Seahorse bowl made for Three Dots is the best mug ever produced in a mass quantity IMHO.
This mug is Tiki Baï work.

Not sure if this counts cause I didn't buy it, but I wanted to share this cool tile artwork I found. I saw it while out thrifting a couple of months ago and have been meaning to share it. Has a nice sorta Oceanic touch. Take care, all.

Haven't posted in a long time, to much life getting the way. Have a back log of great finds, probably start posting some. But I found this the other day, and am still especially jazzed about it. Two pieces of tapa, each 3' long, in a thrift store for $4.99. Not sure how I'm going to use them, but I'm quite pleased. Any one have an idea what tradition they come from? Tapa's my weak suit.

Some recent Vintage Trader Vic's Goodness....

The glasses I picked up in a thrift store, the barrels and syrup I found at an estate sale. I'm guessing they were from the original Portland Trader Vics. Apparently they'd owned a Chinese restaurant around the same time and had some incredible stuff related to that as well, but since it wasn't tiki and you can't buy EVERYTHING... I passed and just grabbed the TV stuff. I walked past the the box with the barrels several times before I saw them too... I can only guess at what else was there, because I was a half hour late to the start and it was still standing room only when I got there...

This is tangentially tiki, but I'm still excited about it. Just received this 1950s Dole Pineapple booklet, "How You Can Give Hawaiian Parties," which is in great shape. It has neat mid-century party ideas and recipes (mostly involving pineapple, and nothing alcoholic).

Also included in the package were these surprises: a double sided picture cut from some other unknown source, and a postcard mailed in August 1944.

hang10tiki another one. There are so many varieties now that one could fill a bookcase.

nui 'umi 'umi and Buzzy. It takes me 6 months to make 30 Hot Tub Hula Girl mugs so Kudos's to whoever puts all the labor to make those Tommy Bahama mugs. They are over the top great. Wendy

I agree, nice pics (from someone's fond memories) and THOSE teeth I can stand. Reminds me of the Miss Hawaii (?) Tit biting Tiki.

hang10tiki I have just started to take the time to look at photo albums in antique stores. I haven't found any with Islands yet but I'll keep trying.

Never seen this coconut mug before

Jon, I like that coconut mug. It looks to have a small base compared to it’s total size.
Might be my impaired vision. The Don Company is alive and well with quite an extensive online catalog
I did not find that mug but I’m seeing double cuz we just got back to Humphrey’s Half Moon from the Bali Hai. They got em some nice copper Mule mugs at Don’sbut I think you gotta buy by the case cuz Don’s is a restaurant supplier.

Wendy, The Edward Don Company has been the leading supplier of Restaurant supplies since the 20's. Glassware, China, Ranges, You name it. Very cool to see the Mug...I would say late 50's/early 60's...quite rare I think. http://www.don.com/AboutDon/companyintro.aspx

I'm pretty sure they were just knockoffs. The guy I bought it from said it came from TGI Friday's. However, the details and paint were very crisp and nice...much better than any of my other TV Fogcutters.

Wendy: I had my eye on that bone carving for over a month. It was too expensive for my comfort zone when I first asked about it. I quietly checked each week, and it was always still there in a shadowbox of Indian stuff. That's a long time for something like that to sit, so I figured he'd be apt to lowering the price after so much time. One morning he was just setting up when i walked by so I shouted out my dream price and he took it! He told me it was from Africa...

My wife bought this jade piece at a thrift thinking it might be tiki. The filigree surround is silver and made it very unlikely. Upon closer exam we found the mark for silver indicating this piece was from Mexico. We’ll hang it in our tiki bar anyway.
