Hey, Kenike - did you find those in Dallas? Man alive, that's a sweet score.

UJ

Found those in an antique store in Dallas that NEVER has anything tiki. Just goes to show that persistence pays.

Today's finds:

6" x 4" Maori carving, a little sun faded

Stamp on back:

The abalone inlaid New Zealand tray has a little tiki graphic on it:

I've seen this in some peoples collections. What the hell is it?

Buzzy Out!

T

Of course, another post by Buzzy. Some seriously good finds lately. Very cool. The gaggle of voodoo tumblers is crazy. I was thrilled when I got one for Christmas-- my missus got it for me on Ebay. So sweet.
Anyway, Buzzy--
The glass tiki you've got there is pretty ubiquitous. Disney used them in the past, or possibly still does in Orlando. You can get a shorter version Red Robin when you order their "Mai Tai". With grenadine. Did I mention it has a lot of grenadine? I made up for it by stealing the glass. Actually, I made my wife put it in her purse, so technically she stole it. Now I use the glass for sno cones. I don't know much about the manufacturer on those. I'm pretty sure I saw a place a few months ago that sells them new. I'll think on it and see if I can't remember.

I have a few of the shorter frosted ones used by Disney from the Polynesian village if anyone has a green or ambler one to trade. I too would like to know the origin of these "goblets".

O

THey still make them, and you can buy them in singles, or sets of four online.

Polynesian at Disney World had them in frosted and non frosted, tall and short, with either "Polynesian Village" and "Walt Disney World" or "Poynesian Resort" (depending on whether they were pre or post conversion).

You can scrub the paint off if you try hard enough.

B

I bought a goblet like that in a frosted tan color maybe 5 years ago at Urban Outfitters. I see a lot of these goblets (both white-frosted and tan-frosted) at vintage stores and eBay. In fact, there have been like 4-5 of them sitting at my favorite store in Austin for maybe 3 months. I should probably take the plunge and buy them - they're great for holding garnishes or snacks at a party.

UT

Posting this for a fellow TC'er "Kabuddhabuddha". He picked up an OOH volcano bowl the other day, paid a good chunck of change but could'nt leave it behind. What made up for the price of the bowl was a rare Polynesian Village mug from the 99 cents!!!.

KABUDDHABUDDHA IS GO FOR LAUNCH !!!

Here are some of my better tiki finds, I have been sandbagging for a long while, so no, these weren't found all today. Just a couple of them were. :)

That middle one is a real find. One of my favorite makers.

Unmarked Mermaid Handled Mug; Headless Islander Stockton Mr. Smiley; Unmarked Blue Kneeling Hula Girl Bowl (possibly Trader Vics?); Don the Beachcomber (Yellow Version)

Close between the Don Beach and the other which is top dog, but, man, if I found this stash in a year I'd be way thrilled. Nothing in the wild like that around here. Good stuff!

Yeah, that was a total score. The Tiki gods have smiled on you this day. Congrats! I am sure we all can't wait to see what you do when you rehab them.

The rest of this week's finds:
A CocoJoes Menehune and a small wooden Hawaii bowl with that super common design. I usually only pick up these if they have Hawaii carved into them.

A super large fork and spoon set and a totem light whose tikiness is questionable.

Buzzy Out!

T

If the cat that gave you FREE that lounge furniture set knew
what those go for $$$ in shops he'd drink a poison Mai-Tai
ASAP!

Thortiki

PS BUZZY, Dude the Titk Gods must always be smiling on you bro!

OMG Sophista-Tiki....that is a awesome set. There is a good discusion about sofa cushions here if you want some ideas and links. That set that you got looks like it is in pretty good condition. JEALOUS!!! :D

Thanks Vampiress. I will check out the cushions link, Ive done lots of upholsery and I have a nice stash of vintage fabric Ive been collecting for a while. I cat wait to get started. Busy finishing up my tiki vacation rental right now. Dawn

Here are some of my recent and not so recent finds....
Jeff found this on one of his Antiqueing jaunts (with
the other woman)LOL

He scored these at Goodwill..

I scored this beauty;though Jeff had to make him a new hat

I scored these 3 for $1.00

Orchids-Taiwan(Goodwill $1.00)

Our joint efforts payoff

Jeff had to create a lid for the esteemed Mr.Bali Hai

mini creamer? we found

Old Time Pottery - 3625 Sweetwater Rd, Duluth, GA
(770) 279-1459
I was in there last week and they had home tiki bars that were basically a slightly nicer version of the Mai Tiki bars that were discontinued at TARGET last year. They are golden bamboo. The stools are nicer than the mai tiki one's were and I believe it comes with 3 instead of 2. Just wanted to put this up in case anyone wants one. I believe they are currently $250 (down from $300)

O

Picked up a Dynasty Wholesale Ku mug at the local japanese steakhouse last night.. they sell em for 5$ apparently.

The waitress looked a bit confused when I asked if I could buy the mug..said she had to go ask..came right back and said hesitantly "Yes.. they are 5 dollars?" SOLD! :)

Now to get one of their volcano bowls on the next trip...

Here's what I started out this weeks finds with this morning:

A pair of Kona Coffee Mill cups, asmall pair of tiki fork/spoons, and a crappy KC tiki.

Buzzy Out!

Well, I've had a few slow months, but here is what I came across:

I found this hut shaped purse for my wahine for an early b-day present. Wooden mugs are below.

Wooden mugs with a (plastic - resin) Kona coffee mug, and a CoCo Joes Lono statue.

A pair of plates.

Harvey's bucket & Maui Lu Luau Resort coconut.

Two unmarked mugs from a 4 pack (as seen in Tiki Quest, on sale now), Offical Trader Vic's scorpion bowl. Bought it at the TX gathering, this was the floor model. Unless they restocked since then, it was the last in the place.

On the way back home from dropping off Pop's new bar (See pic elsewhere) decided to stop by the ARC Thrift, and found this little guy:

Now, folks, don't you worry that I spent too much, because it was half off pink tag day!

Here's a few of my latest finds:

This is not a mug but a flat backed wall vase. 7" tall and it looks great with a straw and little umbrella don't ya think?
A second shot:

Vintage matchbook from Polynesian Village in The Edgewater Beach Hotel Chicago.
My little girl found this in a big pile of matchbooks. I'm training her tiki eye and it's helping already.

This is a favorite of mine. This Tiki Hawaii wall plaque is really colorful and has lots of different tikis. It measures 6 1/2" tall and 5" wide.

Finally, the Hula girl on tiki base. Been lookin' for one of these for a while.

I once was lost............but now I'm found

Here's some more tiki clutter for the house:

Yesterday's sole find was a Tongan style Hawaiian tourist tiki:

It's dated. Now when I list it on ebay, I can call it "vintage."

Today: I see nothing but tiki forks on the horizon, and a book or two

The Hawaii guided tours book is actually a multimedia experience. It comes with some color slides...

and a record.

Published in 1960. It is like an early form of the internet.

Buzzy Out!

Finds from Saturday thrifting

Buttload of Benihana, vintage cocktail shaker, bunch o' mugs, resin ashtray holder with real fish bones, crabs, & starfish, Chinese Girl print, and Primo beer lighter.

close up of Primo beer lighter and naked lady/bamboo mug

Weekend finds:

Frank Schirman "black coral" pair. The lady is Leialoha, the gent is Lopaka.

Japanese s & p.

The rest is from my Lost in Paradise vacation:

Tiki Farm Rapa Nui and Malicious mugs from Funhauser, Orchids R-5 (Japan) from Value Village.

Moai bowl from Trader Vic's, Bellevue, filled with swizzles from various bars we visited on our trip - and a bunch of matchbooks from The Beachcomber courtesy of dogbytes (purchased on ebay from my evil nemesis Emma-One-Shoe).

Mimi (Puamana) gave me this Craft Master Colored Sand kit

A tiny styrofoam "primitive" mask that you spread with white glue (I'm pretty sure the supplied glue has dried solid) and pour colored sand on. It's still factory sealed and I think I'll keep it that way.

Here's a recent score and a fine addition to The Aloha Room... Big mahaloz to Big Bad Tiki Daddy!
He's made of fiberglass and stands about 4ft high (the tiki, not BBTD)

Aloha,
:tiki:

i had vinyl fever yesterday at the swap meet. each a 1$, in addition to the great hawaiian vinyls i also got a b-52's record, a funny looking polka, and a vinyl about scuba diving songs, and harry belafonte

I grabbed a set of these "seven mask" glasses this weekend (I haven't had time to take a picture, so the one below is linked from Ooga-Mooga):

Anyone know the make or origin of these glasses?

P

has anyone ever seen this glaze on this bowl before?

H

Pdrake, I have one just like it. Mine has more yellow color mixed in.

These are the 4 mugs I scored on a recent trip to the Washington D.C. area, all found in the same antique mall. Here's a brief description of each. The links go to a larger image of the mug.

  1. OMC "crossed-arms" mug: from the extinct Luau Hut in Silver Spring, MD. It appears as the Tiki Tumbler in this menu from Arkiva Tropika.

  2. Small Moai mug: unmarked, and looks like it could be homemade. I really dig the white glaze with blue streaks. Looks like a bar of Irish Spring!

  3. Dynasty Headhunter mug: non-vintage, from the Jekyll and Hyde Club in New York.

  4. Maui Lu Luau Daga Warrior mug: from the the Maui Lu Resort, Kihei, Maui, Hawaii.

Found these two Munktiki/Derek mugs today.

My new Suffering Bastard I got up in Pismo Beach This weekend from a Tiki surf shop. They had a lot of small carvings from all over the world.

This is a mug I found at the thrift store a few weeks ago. It can't be used as it is cracked all over.

This is a Tiki that I saw at Jalama Beach in the gift shop.

Didn't know "Orchid's of Hawaii" made any like this;
thought at first he was a Benihana..

Also "Orchid's":both Goodwill finds.

I missed hunting on Saturday and Sunday because of Oasis. Friday I stopped by the swap on my way to the event and picked up these guys:

What I think may be a shirman polyart and a couple of Maori wood items. I also got another set of tiki fork and spoons, but I resold them before I could get a picture.

Buzzy Out!

T

It's been a while since I've found a fun & cool mug but last night I got this one.

Excuse the lousy pictures... Not really "Tiki" but the first time I remember seeing this particular shape in a tiki mug. From the Honolulu in Westboro, MA

Tikisgrl

Some truly amazing scores by everyone lately. Been really busy lately to post many pictures, but it appears that the summer has been good to many of you. Keep up the good work! I am always surprised by the many things I have never seen before showing up here. Some one could write a book based on the finds posted here alone. You are all my heroes!

I'll post some stuff soon.

Already posted this find under the Witco thread, but thought it was note-worthy to add it here as well. Found this Witco fountain, complete with the box and bowl. Purchased for under $200.00. Sat in a storage trailer for a long, long time. I am new to this infectious disease and so, can't believe that right out of the shoot I picked up on this deal.
I have a cottage in Canada on lake erie, which will soon be home to this brute. I have dubbed my crib the Erie Tiki, in my own world I like to call Tropicana-da.
This pic. was taken by the seller and is not my home or the afore-mentioned T.C. I will repost with pictures when he reaches his new place of honor.
