Here's the things I have found in the last couple months that I haven't gotten around to posting. They were not all found on the same occasion. Yes, I find a lot at the GoodWill. I will be near one, get a feeling there is something for my tiki bar waiting inside and when I go inside, sure enough there always is. I have many more items than these ones that I am posting. Many items I then make into my own. I have also found a large collection of paper lanterns and mini bamboo lanterns all still in their packaging and never used. I am planning on opening them up once we have the tiki bar all built.

I found these two guys at the GoodWill.

All three mugs I found at the GoodWill. The Grog mug was the very first mug I ever found there.

Another GoodWill find. I have another set I found there, too, but they are no longer a fork and spoon set.

The bookends I found at the GoodWill and the book at a garage sale.

I pick up more monkey pod every time I go to GoodWill. You can never have too much to serve all your puupuus in.

Found the coconut dishes at the GoodWill. The other three pieces I found at a 2nd hand store.

Another GoodWill find.

One day when I was looking for tiki on Craigslist I found a posting for free tiki mugs. Something about a relationship ending and taking a hammer to them if someone didn't come get them. I couldn't let that happen! Sure, they are from China, but they were free and they are great to let people use at parties. Except for the dark brown one. I found that one in a 2nd hand store.

Again, Goodwill. I've passed on other coconut monkeys I've found there, but there was something about this one.

Lastly, also from the GoodWill, something to serve my pineapple upside down cake on.

I picked up a couple of these earlier this week.

..they lied to you and you bought it....there's nothing vintage about it....as you can see from the post below you can still buy these online....but if you got a good deal on it, then that's what counts.......now go paint it brown before bambooben sees that horrible white tiki.....

Here's a recent $1.50 thrift store find. At first I thought it was a bank somebody cut up to make a tea light holder, but there's no coin slot. So maybe it was always a tea candle holder? Who knows; I'd never seen one like it before, but they don't let me get out much these days.

Silverline, check yours out on page 160 of Tiki Quest.. I have the one right next to it that doesn't say Florida on it.. I love mine lit at night, I usually put in out on the railing of the cabana, so I can see where I'm going doing the summer nights. :lol:

Right you are Tikipaka! They don't let me read my Tiki Quest much anymore either.

Found this little two-faced home ceramics shot mug as well, signed and dated 1968. Pickens is slim right now, so I was happy to find these.

Found this nicely carved monkeypod-wood Hawaiian Ku today while antiquing. It's about 18-inches tall. No artist signature. Hole in the bottom suggests that it was turned on a lathe before being carved.

..i'll bet you didn't know they made lamps of that tiki, did ya???....i bought these on ebay years ago .....(when there was only about 10 tiki collectors world wide)....LOL

Managed to find a couple of things yesterday...

Fire King Sea World Tiki coffe cup. The one on the left was the repeat I found yesterday.

Orchids of Hawaii Surfer mug, no number, made in Japan.

This one kinda stumped me. Same graphics as the Harveys' Hula Girl mug and bowl, but more the size of a vase. Looks newer, but hard to tell. Anyone seen this before or know anything about it?

From 1986 This touristy book titled The Fires of Pele that is part kitsch part comic book with a few illustrations by Sergio Aragones. The cover has Pele as a superhero shooting fire from her hands with a tiki behind her. They don't deevolve much more than this.

Took home this menehune bowl from Trader Vic's Chicago lst night. (I asked Pallava, the GM, to sign and date the bottom and he obliged me... nice guy.)

I found this postcard for a mortuary with a polynesian vibe in Long Beach. Strange. Anyone up there know if this place is still there?

Nice job! Kudos for not going all red and yellow with the flame job (which, by the way is the surest sign that this puppy is not vintage) like they did in the grey ones, which look more like aliens than Tikis to me. Looks like you found a good nook for it, too.

That mortuary postcard is a killer! Going to Tiki heaven! I gotta use that in one of my next projects, please.

This was my Xmas gift to my wife, and she asked me to post it here. It looks like something some proud tourist put together. Or maybe this was something that was available to purchase? I doubt this sort of thing would be legal today, if it was even legal then. Anybody have any info?

This week's finds...

Another repeat Harvey's Hula Girl bowl. I bought this one because of the inscription on the the bottom; Amy 1978 Won $1,100 (my wife's name is Ami)!

"Found" these Peppermill volcano mugs on Christmas night after driving 5 hours over I-80 east to Reno. Ordered these after checking in to the Peppermill. Last time they only had the shark mugs, this time, only the volcano mugs.

In an effort to learn more about Oceanic Arts, I picked up this book "Primitive Art, It's Traditions and Styles" by Paul S. Wingert.

Nice collection of finds there, Paipo! Wonderful glaze on that Cook islands bottle. I can't say if it looks more obscene with the head on or with it off. :wink:
That axe is nice, too. I am currently fully immersed in Maori art, studying "Carved Histories" by Roger Neich. Do you have that book? Jeez, that early NZ tourist art!

You can see that guy's blue cousin here - I got it at a local garage sale but unfortunately it is glued together from several broken pieces, so I was stoked to get a new one in one piece and with the mystery elixir still inside! I have another removable-head model here from a different mold and in a more conventional glaze.
I haven't read "Carved Histories" (yet- it is on my to buy list), but am reading "The Carver and the Artist" right now, which studies the intersection of 20th century modernist art and Maori traditional carving. There are so many good books being published here these days that I just can't keep up with them!

A Coco Joe's Ku, and "Penny Pineapple", a cast iron bank from 1960 celebrating Hawaiian statehood.

And this nice size footed bowl. No markings, but a search at Oooga Mooga turned up two other examples marked "The Tikis Monterey Park". Best part, $2.85 at the local thrift!

No, the back is pretty sparsely decorated...just ocean horizon and an island with two sailboats indicated in the distance. The boats are not visible in the pics here, though:

Haven't hit the thrifts in ages. But stopped by and found a 2001 Tiki Farm, Drew Brophy Shell Head mug.

I've seen blue and green versions of this mug, but not this particular color combo.

Any info on the brown with the bloody red mouth Shell Head mug would be appreciated!

ManFromT.I.K.I., Nice find there. Some where on TC there is a thread showing an original MINT condition hand painted Tonga Kneeling Hula Girl Bowl. I think this is a photo from that clip as I saved it for my own reference as to what the painted version on the ladies looked like way back when.

Although my find for $15.00 has the paint chipping off, I have to say finding something great out in the wild is very satisfying. Now get back out there and find some more!

Blue Daga surfer mug.

Aloha Cup 1984, Honolulu Hawaii, with a drawing of a hockey player in uniform with stick and puck, riding a surfboard. Was this a hockey tournament?

I got these 2 bar stools off sf craigslist, The guy said they were left behind at the S.F. Trader Vic's. I guess the seats weren't in very good shape so he recovered them. A decent price and match for my vintage bar. If anyone recalls seeing bar stools like this at Trader Vic's leave a comment.

This week's finds...

Dollar finds...I keep telling myself "no more Harvey's Sneaky Tiki bucket mugs", but I can't pass them up at $1.00 or less. Walgreens tiki fountain, Stockton Islander coconut mug and a Ubangi ashtray!

Hawaiian travel brochures, I will post them individually in the brochure thread!

"Hawaiian Favorites, Harry Richards and his Islanders" "The Best Of Alfred Apaka, with The Hawaiian Village Serenader's" "The Wonderful World of Aloha, Orchestra and Chorus Directed by Jack de Mello" "Sing Me A Song of the Islands, Alfred Apaka and the Hawaiian Village Serenader's" and "Pink Hawaii, Billy Mure and the Islanders".

I found these two large pieces of tapa cloth. Both measure 14'x10'. Aside from the backyard, in which the grass was wet, I did not have an open space large enough to open these out flat. They are probably the largest pieces of tapa I have seen. Beautiful artwork on both. These came from a storage locker sale and the lady I bought them from knew nothing about them and neither do I. Too embarrassed to say what I paid for them, but it was next to nothing.
