WOW! D. How'd you talk the boss into letting you do that! Great finds as always. It's been a rough winter for me. I'll post my measly finds later!
Mahalo,
Rick

Hey Rick,

How you doing?

Well...the boss was the one who told me she wanted me to get the tapa cloth off of the floor, I couldn't argue with that suggestion, could I?

Hey, Duane! That Tapa rocks! Been a nasty winter so far. I've already paid the plow guy $210.00 of my fun money. I just finished helping my knucklhead son with his homework & I don't have the energy to take pics of my finds. I'll do it tomorrow. I did manage 3 items today, so maybe my mojo is changing.

The size of a hand. $160 pesos= $12 U.S.Dollars approx. I like it... on the back it says: Moko N.Z. Was that a good price?

Enchanted Tiki Room Soundtrack.
Brand new, with plastic sleeve. 1968. I wonder how much would this go for on ebay? I saw an open one for $29.99

Judging from the price tag, that was originally purchased at the park. Nice find!

LOL Tiki!

Bali-Hai salt shaker. How rare, valuable is this?

They pop up on ebay fairly often; they don't fetch a particularly high price.

Had some luck today at my favorite thrift today.

One of those reversed/inside out printed barkcloth Hawaiian shirts by Liberty House Hawaii. Man this print is so loud that even in reverse it grabbed my attention right away! Not bad for $2.00.

Close up to show the brightness

A wood doll with “Bora Bora” carved into its back, a HIP Tiki, bottle openers, tiki coasters ( only $0.50 so why not), tin Hawaii dish and 4 metal Hawaii coasters (showing 2 here)

I came across a few packs of vintage postcards—over 1000 total and got these Hawaii related ones (few of New Zealand also) mostly hotels, moneky pod trees, Aloha… oh and all of them are not written on except the large one and that has a date of 1966

Set of souvenir dolls in their package

Betty & Robert Hawaiian Name mugs --one day I am sure I will find my name dang it!

Not a bad day nor a bad way to spend a couple bucks. Wish I could come across more mugs but I don't mind picking up all this other stuff :)

Love how that tapa looks on the ceiling. Nice bamboo framing PTD.

Now I know you may have all the luck when it comes to finds...and of course your recent tapa scores. But wait.....something to wow your senses ....
I found this in my local thrift for $1.00. Now I know you all are super jealous of this amazing find but to answer your questions no I will not sell it :)

Behold the twin size sheet of tapa inspired printed fabric. To utilize this amazing find I plan on converting it into a shower curtain just so I can behold its beauty on a daily basis.

I can only assume someplace like Target or Bed Bath and Beyond sold this set:

I know...it blows your mind, doesn't it???

hehe

Almost looks like it might be Disney related.

Hey nice find leleliz. The figure on the bottom of the photo is a Duk Duk dancer, Check out page 26 in Tiki Modern. The image was also used by Aloha Jhoe's in Palm springs way back when.

L

Staredge- I thought maybe Disney too but there isnt any tags on it so who knows.

Trav - yeah even though the sheet is not some vintage item the graphics are pretty well done (for what they are). I couldn't remember what those dancers were called so thanks for the heads up :)

I am trying to keep my eyes open for any additional pieces from this set that may turn up. I think I want to cut out a few of the images, tea dye them so they look aged and then frame them in some bamboo frames I have. That should make them less cartoonish (or so I think)

My personal best mug find in the wild today!

Got 2 of these great condition Pontchartrain Beach-Comber Tiki Bob's for just 99 cents each at a thrift store in Omaha!

nice find!

I found these guys hanging out at the goodwill together. paid $1 and $1.50. My personal best mug find.

Well, it's been a crappy winter! I've wasted more time & gas traipsing around New England in search of anything Tiki, often coming home completely empty-handed. Here's what I have managed to find since November.
I think PTD refers to these as "the usual suspects":

This one's trade bait! Any offers? PM me if you do.:

Kinda neat Hawaii coasters, worth a buck for a set of 5:

Kool Leilani Rum nip bottle, with a bit o rum still in it, another buck:

These guys put a smile on my face last week. Only the one on the left is marked, but it's one I didn't have:

Neat Hawaii tour book with a couple of Tiki images:

First Treasurecraft ashtray I've found, dated 1962:

Pretty neat, homemade stackable mug with 2 different images on it:

Been watching this guy for a month, searching the web & poring over BOT to try to find his origin. I didn't want to buy a Mexican or African figure. His facial features sure look Tiki, but that thing on his head confuses me. Went back Sunday & he was 30% off, so he's going in my lounge, regardless. I'm posting him in the "Tiki, Not Tiki" thread, so please share any thoughts of his origin there & don't clog up this thread with my insecurities:

I'll post a couple more finds in Beyond Tiki.

I didn't actually find this. Someone mentioned that he had these, and I said, "Please please please sell me one." So I guess it sort of found me.

Apparently, this is how the menus would arrive at a Trader Vic's location. They would receive the template and then send it to be printed with the names of the drinks and their prices.

JB

....me too.

Tiki-Kate,

Great found you find. That is like a mint error coin or something... different.

Well it's been raining alot here in SoCal so I decided to hit a few Goodwill stores. Here's what I found in just two stores.

Actually found 5 of the Martiki glasses, 4 of the Tiki Farm Warrior mugs. They still had Hilo Hattie price tags on the bottom. Was that a special glaze for them only?

These came from a place called Pete Mallory's. Anyone been there?

A glass mug from Treasure Island.

This looks cool, not sure what to do with yet.

Also a few albums.

I found this a month ago at a thrift shop.

This weeks finds...

A big hual on matches today...

And a fuckin awesome panel was given to me by a great friend.

He painted it himself!! Thanks Hodad. :)

When all else fails, look through the LP's. Didn't know whether to post these here or in Tiki Music, so here we go! Today's finds...

"Eddie Lund Presents...Bora Bora".

Another copy of "Hawaii Calls" with the "Hilo Hawaiians-Honeymoon in Hawaii". Nice booklet inside.
...

Later,

PTD

Wow! I have a few of those and they are some of my favorites. That is one great stack of records by itself! Lucky dog!

TS

Not tiki per se, but a couple book scores and an early 70s map of the Pacific Islands, all for $2.

M

Those Kauai Surf logo tikis are one of my favorite designs of all time!

Not so much my finds as my daughters picked these up for me yesterday on their way back from St. George Utah, via Las Vegas. This is a proud day for Psycho Tiki D as I think my daughters may actually be getting it...

They thought Trader Vic's was too austere, but they loved Frankie's Tiki Room!

Since the weather sucks, no hunting for me. I still got my tiki on though!

Later,

PTD

A proud Papa you should indeed be, PTD. Way to train those kids! I've got to start working on mine. It's the parents who usually bring home the gifts for the kids.

DC

Hey, D!
Great kids you got there. My 13-year old son definitely "gets it". I gotta sleep with one eye open. My wife commented on how much Hot Rod & Tiki stuff I had one day & I replied, " When I'm dead, people will be lining up at the front door to buy this stuff". My son didn't even hesitate. He piped up, "No they're not. It's all mine!". That's my boy!

been on the thrift store hunts this past week and thought i was just doing ok when i came across this one-

...or what have they broke or what are they after.

But joking aside it is great when family finally get it, like this week my mum sent me a Maori Carving she'd found in a jumble sale.

[ Edited by: atomictonytiki 2009-02-21 02:56 ]

Yes, all joking aside, I think what it really took for them was actually seeing "tiki" outside of my house to figure it out. The only way to do that is to go to a place like Frankie's or the like.

The glass float lamp was a focal point for all three of them. They all commented on the fact the one in Frankie's was much smaller than mine...the artwork, tiki carvings, lighting and vibe at Frankie's tied everything together for them. They had just left TV and had this been the only place they had visited, the impact would have not been the same.

Do they get enough to participate? I doubt any of the Evil Trio will go to the extremes I have, but I know now when I am gone they will appreciate what I leave behind enough to think about tiki and what it means/meant to me. I could be mistaken as well...one or more of the Evil Trio may actually convert to their Dad's dark side and pick up the tiki mantle. If not, there are always the grandchildren!

Either way, this was a good start for all of them!

Still admiring them for what they did for me.

It appears the mug came from here:

But if you like it, what the hell?

PTD

Here's a tale of woe; of tiki finds found but not brought home. I've been walking past this guy in my local antique mall for over two years.

Each time I figured I really couldn't afford him. As the years past I was confident that he would always be there for me when I was ready.

Well, today he was gone.

I hope somebody here got him.

You all know PTD is lying...he must have bought those mugs online.....he's WAY too young to have daughters that could go to Frankie's!! :)

Good haul, PTD!!! I'm headed there next month and will have to visit both TV's and Frankies!!

Looks like others had a decent tiki hunting week, too!

Hopefully I'll have something to report after my trip to the SF Bay Area this weekend!!

A couple of older T Farm mugs from a mini estate sale today...

8T

A folding souvenir postcard pack.

Two of the images inside.

A cool little United Airlines tiki keychain and a neat lighter from ARTHUR LYMAN!

Hey Mr. No! Congrats on that 1000th post! You didn't think we'd let that go unnoticed did ya? My question is; How young was the deceased that his estate sale included all those Tiki Farm mugs?
8ft! Great lighter & key chain!

Hey now!! I didn't even realize. So, when do I get my tie clip? :) Or is it a fountain pen?

One doesn't have to have an estate sale to be dead. Or vice versa. The sellers tiki time just ran out.

Cheers.

That's reassuring! I just wanted to make sure none of that stuff was cursed. Maybe you should send it to me & I'll give it the once over to make sure you aren't in any danger!

Found a mug from Tiki Gardens i a thrift store i Stockholm. The 6th I have found during 10 years of intense search. Tiki-mugs are rare in ol' Sweden. The mug itself is not that pretty, but Tiki Garden was a cool place. Possibly the mug is rare, or at least rarely collected, it isn't featured on Ooga-Mooga (they do have a shot glass with the same print).

Cheers!

Goodwill find yesterday-- this 4 1/4" glass from Hawaii Kai.

Slim pickn's latley. Found this tourist carving that I couldn't pass up, a couple of souvenir mugs and a mint condition Coco Joe's ashtray. The mask is a B-day gift from my mom, though not Tiki it is extremely old and primitive. I think it will go well in the shadows of the lounge.

This seems to be the most common thing I have been finding lately.........snow. All that green is snow.

Hey I have one of those ashtrays too :D Was gonna paint the lettering to let it stand out more but changed my mind as I do not want to spoil its true form...

I purchased mine from Fl-ebay, I paid £2 for it...looks great on my Tiki Bar...:drink:
