Found some great pieces over the weekend...
Super rare find for Jersey or the U.S. for that matter, a Singapore Sling mug from the Mauna Loa in Mexico that I found at "Cobweb Corner" outside of A.C....

The Singapore Sling mug!!! You are one lucky guy!!! I have only seen it once in my life, in Mexico City, and I bought it of course, so, congratulations! I am happy you found it! a real Latin tiki collector!

Matt took me to SF this weekend for my birthday and we found a few things. Picked up the TV 75th Anniversary mug in Emeryville, CA. (and had a scorpion) Went antiquing and found a few others.

We stayed overnight in the city, walked to the Fairmont Hotel and had dinner at the Tonga Room. It's so beautiful. It looks like they cleaned it up nicely, unfortunately, the food was just so so (too sweet and bland) and I had a pineapple daiquiri which was ok. I ordered a mai tai with dinner and it was so bad I had to send it back!! Tasted like bad medicine... very disappointing.

Then we took some hair raising cab rides (I'm serious, they go at least 70 MPH flying down the hills of San Francisco - Think of the movie "Bullet" with Steve McQueen).

Made it safely to Smuggler's Cove, really fun place. I had a Test Pilot and Matt had the Smuggler Cove Rum Barrel and a painkiller. The bartender, Melissa, was a bar tending marvel! We ended the night at Bourbon & Branch, a 1920's style speakeasy, that requires a password to gain entrance, and some very talented bartenders.

(Our last cab ride to the hotel was unbelievable. Somehow we arrived unharmed. We stepped out and Matt leaned in to pay him and he was asleep, snoring. Matt had to wake him up to pay him. Have you ever heard of a narcoleptic cab driver?) Be careful in the city :)

BOT? Nope! Google Images? Nope! Ebay history? Nope!

Is it even Tiki? I thought it more of an Aztec influence, but, wanted it anyways.

It looks native american; specifically like a hopi or zuni kachina: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopi_Kachina_dolls

Don't see them that big that often, mostly carved wood under 12".

Happiest of birthdays to a fellow Aries and it sounds like you had an amazing time on your adventure. It appears you hit all the appropriate SF locales and the sleeping cab driver just adds to the fun.

Found a new antique/thrift store today....made some good scores:

a bar stool for $8.00

a set of PMP bamboo mugs for $10

a fu manchu for $4

and a hula wahine for $4

It is nice to find something upstate ny.....and when you do they usually have no idea what they are selling....it is usually marked as a vase.

I was overjoyed to get this CocoJoe's plaque today. I didn't have it yet, and it was only $8!

This got me all happy and giddy when I stumbled upon it yesterday

He has a knot in his right eye that looks like a pupil

I'd been hoping to get one of these some day. The crack on his arm is only on the shoulder. It's still attached at the hand and was never broken off there. There's another small hairline crack in the back as well. The seller wanted $7 for it, I pointed out the cracks and countered with $5 and we had a deal.

I hit the outdoor flea market today and picked up a few things...CHEAP....
$1 each for the sharks jaws and the carved wooden mugs marked "Made in the Philippines...$1.50 for the Hula girl still in the box and 25 and 50 cents each for the Orchids of Hawaii Tiki and the black tiki candle holder marked:
"Tiki Isles Enterprises, Longwood, Fla.

And I got a rubber rat that appears to be stealing treats from the "pee-nut" bowl.

Been finding good stuff lately in the wild. Kon tiki mug for 25 cents, Tonga Room mug for $2, small westwoods $2.

Late 60's early 70's Buzzy.They also did a Paul Marshall style soap on a rope.
Wish I still had a picture of it , I sold it several years ago new old stock in
original box.I should have kept it .

Really great finds for KY, I have a hard time finding anything here. I usually have much better luck digging up Kahiki stuff in southern Ohio.

They are modern copies of Orchids Of Hawaii mugs.

Here's an interesting one. Looks homemade, and cheaply done at that. However, on the base is this inscription:

Could this be a genuine artifact from Edmonton's Tiki Tiki? Any locals remember them carrying any mugs like this? I'll post it on the Tiki Tiki thread, too.

But today I did find these...

A R-72 mug that I didn't have, Esquivel's Other Worlds, Other Sounds and a Triton's Trumpet Shell that has the tip knocked off.
I knew all those years of Trombone lessons would come in handy some day...

That isn't a Triton's Trumpet Shell. It is a Florida Horse Conch. It is a great shell to have, specially that size.

What is the story on the Haunted Mansion piece? Looks interesting!

PTD- The Haunted Mansion piece is a puzzle box. There are several steps to slide open the side of the box, the lid comes off, the other side slides open and there is a drawer in the bottom. There are a couple of different sizes. In addition, there is a Walt Disney World version with a different graphic on the front. The box dates from the early 1970s.
