a few finds from last week

3 coco joes wall plaques, good condition but no tags on the back.

A wooden tiki from??? Any ideas??? a unmarked coconut mug (first I've found) and a Chiki Tiki morning after shot from Pismo Beach Ca. Are these current or could it be from the Trader Nicks once there in Pismo?

Found this past week:

These two Moai wall hangings are made of what looks like colored sand and stand 24" tall and are 9" wide

This crocodile/man stands about 45" tall is a Spirit Figure from the Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea

This tiki has seen better days! He stands almost 6' and has light blue and white faded paint. Maybe it sat in front of a restaurant back in its time?

I'm going to post the hula girl in the CocoJoe's post but if anyone could tell me more about her I'd appreciate it. Is she an original or a later repro?

This was a relatively good week for me, since I really did not go to any flea markets ,
thrift stores or garage sales.I picked up this very large original glass float ball with
no net or light.With the a little help hopefully from some TC Ohana I could have a
net made for this float lamp.The electrical part I have made and in stock.I am thinking
this could have come from an old tiki bar like the Outrigger or Ports of Call that were
both located in Long Beach, based on the area it was found .It's a least 20" in size .
Very stoked with this find .

Wow ! Found this giant piece of Samoan or Tonga tapa cloth at 89" wide and 160"
(over 13 feet) in length .

Bought these in an antique mall today. Originally priced at $60.00 they had been marked down to $40.00. And they even still had the swizzels in them!

Well, I don't know where else to put this; it's a find, but there was no tiki and nothing to "collect" except photos.

I'm an architectural photographer by trade, and I work mostly in historic preservation. This means that I photograph a lot of buildings before, during and after restoration. Today I was in a house doing pre-restoration documentation and found some scrapbook pages enlarged and taped to the living room wall for the new owner to enjoy. Among them were these:

Having not been in the basement yet, I was itching to see how much of this may still be there!

There had been some flooding in the basement, so the floor had a lot of dirt on it, but sure enough, a LOT of the Hawaiian Room was still there!

Now this is really not much considering what you might find in old basements in CA, but for Kansas City, this is RARE! And for most of it to still be intact ? Even RARER! I seriously doubt the new owners will want to save any of it, but after I went crazy for it, who knows?

OK, it's done! General Tiki under "The Hawaiian Room: early basement lounge in KC."

Having a great month capped off by this lamp find today. Was stored in a barn. Shade is toast, dirty and rusted metal, mud wasp nest on arm, but the cermaic tiki is close to flawless under the the dust. Anyone know who did it? Oceanic Arts?

This is the totality of my tiki finds this year. Yes, the lump sum of 4 months of searching. PTD finds more in one weekend.

A couple of Don Ho & The Aliis "Suck 'Em Up" glasses, a Hawaii souvenir mug & The Drinks of Hawaii cocktail recipe book by Paul Dick (third edition)

Not tiki but all vintage marked "Japan". They are all over a foot tall and were only $2 for the bunch. eh..whatever. I am moving soon and they just went right into a box.

Don't collect too many new mugs mostly vintage or limited production event mugs,
however picked up a couple of gems at Bamboo Ben's garage sale including a cool
Pocket Kahuna flask.

I drink Aguardiente Antioqueno out of my pocket Kahuna all the time. A real attention grabber!!!!

Found this cool ceramic Tami style Tiki mask over the weekend at the Golden Nugget Fleamarket. It is made in spain by Mercados De La Artesania Espanola.


It's really heavy...i dig it! :)

Nice one Buzzy! every Kono mug I have found has been cracked or in bad shape in one form or another.
I have yet to find a Kono in good shape.

It's not that it wasn't there, it's just that sometimes I'm a little more selective, or more likely broke!

Great finds Buzzy .The Kono Hawaii mug you found is a super mug and very difficult to
find .When we moved to Orange in the mid 70's this place was not to far from us,
so we would go there often.This is a super find, a much better score then you give
yourself credit for ...congrads .

Nice finds as usual Buzzy, no, the well has not run dry yet. In fact, one of the regular vendors I buy stuff from says "tiki has slowed way down" leading me to believe that maybe, just maybe, more tiki, poly pop and hawaiiana would be resurfacing and be in abundance for the died in the wool collectors?

I am a rookie Tikiphile and have been collecting since late 2008. I became a member in March of 2009. I have been a lurker taking in as many topics that I could. I started posting when I decided to remodel my Sports room (converted detached garage) into a Tiki Lounge.

I am retired so I am able to shop the local thrift shops as I please. Normally 4 to 5 times a week. My Tiki collection has grown to over 300 and the majority have come from garage sales and thrift shops. I depend on the veteran collector posts here on TC. I have learned much here but realize I have not touched the tip of the iceberg.

I had good finds last week at the local thift shops.

Tuesday I found this Tiki skull that most of you would have instantly would have recognized. I picked it up, removed the price tag and saw it was from Trader Vics.

Wednesday I found this on a bottom shelf of a local thift store. I didn't know where this was from until I came home and researched it. Can anyone give me more information on the Kono Club in Oakland,Ca.?

Friday I found these two guys made by HIP in 1973. They stand 9" tall. Right next to them was the below pictured Tiki Mug.

I am retired from the City of Santa Ana and was familiar with Kono Hawaii on Harbor Blvd. I even frequented the place a couple of times. Unfortunately I was not a Tikiphile in the 80's, darn it. I have been looking for a mug from the Kono Hawaii in the wild since I started collecting. I flipped when I picked up this mug and saw where it was from. This Ku is in great condition and even has the OMC sticker on it.

I need the help of some veteran collectors. I found this bowl at a local thrift a little over a year ago (before I started posting). I've searched ooga-mooga but couldn't find it. Both pieces were attached to each other with tape and both have an OMC/Japan sticker on the bottom. Neither have any other markings. I'm not even sure they are a set. Can someone help identify where this could have come from?

With your luck at finding stuff, you're gonna need the BOT! :) The earlier posted mug that you thought says "Kono Club" actually is from the Kona Club, a new, well done, classic style Tiki Bar in Oakland.

I've only seen that insert with the larger volcano bowl (as seen below in some photos I pulled from an auction). Unless there is a menu showing this pair together I would guess that they were originally separate pieces. A very nice find none the less; I'd be quite happy to have those pieces!
