Aztec,Mayan,other?
anyone,anyone?

This little guy must be a homecraft... there's no markings on him and it's not a mug, the top is flat. Looks kinda Westwood though.

I would like to "find" a Smokin' Joe Flask by Von Franco/TikiFarm. I've totally struck out on Ooga-mooga (two guys say they're selling but never return mail) and ebay. Anyone out there want to sell one?

yo VATO!!! score.

What's the name of this Maori jade thing?

It's 2500 pesos (around 230 dollars) it's one piece and in perfect condition... what's the regular price for an item like this?

Looks like a king, queen and... Zorgon from Planet X :) Finish sure is in nice shape considering how ratty the back panels are.

Hola Zeta!

That mere looks like a beauty. Price seems OK. Here is a site that gives you an idea of some current NZ prices for meres from a tourist shop:

http://giftsofnz.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=From+New+Zealand&Category_Code=Mere

(NZ$1 = US$0.71 at today's exchange rate)

More photos please, if you decided to buy it....

If that is a King and Queen could the 3rd one be a Court Jester? You know how they wear those weird hats...maybe the carver just could not make the hat look right!

I was working away in Wales this week, so decided to hit a few Charity shops and Junk stores whilst in the area.

It paid off...

Island Magic by the Kontikis.

Nice art cover featuring stylized Islands, Dolphins and Outriggers.

A great write up about the authenticity (or lack of) of the tracks on the album, and a final paragraph which sums up Poly Pop for me -

"Call it escapism, if you like, a sort of wish-fulfilment.
Most of us are at this very moment as near to the beach at Waikiki as we are ever likely to get, but the armchair traveller can, at the drop of a stylus, experience vicariously the thrill of a visit to the paradise of his imagination, sharing with the true wanderer the magic of the moment when soft voices bridge the gap from ship to shore with the time-honoured phrase... Aloha oe!"

1965 UK compilation of Martin Dennys 20 'Hawaiian Hits'

Raffia picture frame.

A little TLC and this should look great.

Hobbist tiki mug.

The Voyager On Shelter Island San Diego matchbook.

"Coconut Palm Garden of Don the Beachcomber"

Yeah! I second Boris' remark!!

Scored this awesome carved tiki by Billy the Crud at a raffle at Frankie's Tiki Room last night. It's about 18 inches tall. My only other carved tiki is about 8 inches, so this is a nice addition to the home tiki bar!

Had a great time too. If you travel to Las Vegas, Frankie's is a must.

Tiki Bob napkins are killer Duane...glad i got to see these in person!

from the UCSD bookstore:

Tiki Farm blue shot mug

Made in japan tiki toothpick holder

"Whoa-oh-oh I'm on fire"

One Mauna Loa Drum Mug, found at a local thrift store for $3.00

I'm having a pretty good 2010 so far. :)

$7.50 got me this set from an antique mall.

A couple of new ones..

CheersNBeers Beerminda..

Another $7.50 brought home one of these handle-built-in mugs. It's 4 3/4 inches high. No sticker on the bottom.

Awesome day at the boring library. Our library is ususally pretty bad, very small not a good selection and it tends to be disorganized. Looking through the cart of free books donated and they are not keeping... I find a hardback copy of Aku-Aku with slip cover 1958 4th edition. Still Overjoyed getting in the car, my excellent wife hands me a copy of "headhunting in the samoan islands, 1st printing" that i totally over looked. Excellent day.

See folks, going to your local library is a good thing! On the internet you would have had to pay for these books.

I think you mean "Headhunting in the Solomon Islands". Samoans didn't do that. But then again, this is Polynesian pop, so hey.

I am fascinated by that book's popularity! Not to diminish your find, but in the 90s, when I was researching the BOT, that was THE book I found one or more copies of in every Used Books store. I really would like to find out more about the impact of the book in its own time, I bet LIFE Magazine did an article on it, the equivalent of being on Oprah today.

It recently inspired two women to follow the original author and artist's tracks:

Just scored a huge collection of Hawaiian Eye items from a collector of "77 Sunset Strip":

Includes head shots and bios from the studio in 1962, the board game, some production cast sheets, quite a few behind-the-scenes photos from an episode, a lenticular button, the book, the album, a Poncie Ponce album, a carved logo and a large replica of the signature tiki!!

Finally after years of searching for a vintage jacket in the wild I found this one. Made by Sandwich Isles in British Hong Kong in the 1960's. A fantastic print and color with mother of pearl inlaid buttons and it fits perfect.

Trav,

Nice score, that's a beaut! Congrats, the long search paid off. Have you figured out which tie to wear with it? I'm thinking maybe this one:

Wow, nice!
Now, if only they would release it on DVD!

the above sandwich isles jacket is awesome!

Big score for me yesterday from a group of antique stores south of Lansing, Michigan.

Not as unique as what others are finding lately... but dang it, I've been searching for the tiki Treasure Craft S&P's forever it seems like! ($3) The three large Westwoods were just $7 for all three. I also bought another swag lamp, not in the picture. The little Westwoods cost me $2.50 each and the Fu Manchu was $8, which is high, I think, but it's marked Orchids of Hawaii, R-82, Japan.

Quite right, bigbrotiki

Headhunting in the Solomon Islands: Around the Coral Sea, thats the one! The Aku-aku has a personal note written by people who gave it to Tom Underwood as a gift. Tom was a very good friend of my father and did a lot of good for the people and artists here in cherokee. So both these finds turned out to be very personal for me.
I can't wait to start to reading them both. Just read the linked page you provided and can't wait to look into that further also. thanks again!

WOW!! Great score on the mugs Bongo. Did you find all of those in the spot I told you about awhile back?

Hey...nice can

A slightly cried Crying Moai candle

Dreadlock Rasta SoCal mug:
