Thanks for that clarification guys: I can now confirm that the confusing mask I saw is a Balinese rip-off of an African mask.

The "hula head" has a much better look than some I've seen. She's a keeper!

Oh, those aren't mine. But if you do a Google search on Aboriginal Masks you'll find that image and more like it.

Just in case it has not been sufficiently spelled out:

These are NOT Tiki masks. They are dime a dozen cheapo import store items. Sometimes, import junk like this gets called Tiki by internet vendors, but that does not make it Tiki. These do not belong in a Tiki environment.

(I am sorry to be so blunt, but when items like this get undue attention on Tiki Central by having them posted multiple times, it might confuse novices of the genre to believe they are part of it)

Mind if I ask where you found these here in Cincinnati?

Goodwill, ninja and three geisha.

Two Samurai Helmets came from Duck Creek Antique Mall.

St. Vincents thrift store, Karate Punch.

We hit about seven different places yesterday. I actually found a few Tiki carvings, a Benihana cat mug and a Japanese Float.

It was a good day of picking, off to do more on our way to Dayton.

Last of yesterdays finds, Ku wooden sculpture, Don Ho glass and a Lucky Kitty Benihana mug.

Nothing spectacular on this trip, but always fun finding some new tiki.

One stop yielded these two items...

A boxed set of tan colored Moai salt and pepper shakers and a small wood Maori carving (ashtray)?

This tan set is slightly larger and more defined than the brown set. Like the blue rhinestone eyes on this one.

now all you have to do is mount it on the wall with a small light behind it and you have instant tiki wall sconces!! the light will shine out the bottom of his nose and the bottom of the box to help illuminate him. hell i might even make some now and sell them for a bundle on ebay to some newbie!!

You can tell it was hand painted --and not done very well--because there is gold paint all over the black box base.

Found a few Tiki pieces at Traders World in Mason Ohio on the way to Bar Tiki.

I spent the weekend in Darkest Taranaki (New Plymouth), looking for Pacific Islands stuff in second-hand stores.

Things didn't quite turn out as expected. The only item from the islands that I found was this nice piece of tapa:

Found a few things at the Burlington Antique fair in Kentucky today.

We found our first bowl in the wild and we made a few good finds.

not exactly tiki but i couldn't resist posting this pair of lamps i scored at an estate sale.......i guess one could put them in a tiki room or lounge at that would qualify......anyway, a good cleaning and some starburst bulbs to replace the three single bulbs branching off the base of each lamp and they should be ready to roll......

Dang, I wish I would have that pillow for my upcoming 10 Y BOT exhibit, the Tikis on it are 99% percent from the book. Glad to hear it popped up in faraway Maori-land. Being a fairly new item, it was probably banished to the thrifts because of its in-authenticity. :)

I have not posted here in a while so I thought I would share a couple of recent acquisitions .

An original 1963 Trader Vic's bisque glaze Rum barrel as depicted in the Trader Vic's Bartenders guide circa mid 60's

A Kelbo's drink menu .Anything from Kelbo's is hard to find.

Very cool, have never seen this version with the cocktail islands before! That concept is one of my favorites from the "Art forms of the Pacific" map tradition in Polynesian pop. Skipper Kent had a mural with on its wall, and the Mauna Loa did it on their menu.

After a crappy week at work, a decent haul this weekend. The Okolehao bottles are still 3/4 full each. They have revenue seals on them so I am guessing they are kinda old. Does anyone have any idea if the stuff inside is still ok to drink?

It's probably okay, but I'd pour it out into a clear jar first and see if it's cloudy or clear. If it's cloudy, it's probably contaminated and should be thrown out. Give it a good sniff also to see if it smells like liquor infused with old gym socks or just booze.

I'd take a small sip and wait a few hours before drinking a couple ounces of it in a cocktail, but I've had severe food poisoning twice and am probably more cautious than most.

Lucky find, by the way. I've always wanted to try genuine Okolehao. All the bottles I've found have been empty.

Old tiki found at a garage, the lady having the sale was from hawaii and the tiki once belonged to her uncle.

What's the story with the hole in each of the hands? Was he originally supposed to be holding something in them?
