I do what I can to preserve what is found out there. Unless something is selling for a ridiculously low price, I am trying not to buy what I already have only because I am rapidly running out of room. I would rather buy the stuff now and offer it up to my friends in trade or at a future sale event than to leave it behind for a dealer to grab and sell at a huge mark-up. The Coco Joe's tiki and the Schirman piece are duplicates; the rest are ones I didn't have yet.

The Mahi-Mahi (thanks for putting a name to it for me) is one of the hard plastic molded versions and the first one I have seen in the wild. If I can't get it in my bag, my Dad or sister will bring it out on a future trip to Cali; they are going to have to bring me the carved Moai on the next trip.

Nice score on the matchbooks. I was looking at the one from the Club Tahiti in Ontario and just knew I had seen that graphic before. Went through my computer files and couldn't find it.... because it used to be called the Bambu Hut.

Last weeks' finds in the local thrift stores. Been dry so I'm happy with these.

Here's the pics you requested. Hope they work for you. An internet search of the craft shop shows it to be a rehab center. Don't know if it is one in the same. It appears that the tourist that made the purchase while visiting Hawaii wrote the date of their vacation as 12-8-76.

I have had a pretty good run lately, but not posting everything. I did score this today on craigslist for $20.00...

Two large PolyArt Ku wall hangings, pair of Coco Joe's tiki bookends, Coco Joe's Akua Lono, HIP Rascal, PolyArt wahine and an unmarked menehune.

Got these 3 yesterday at an estate sale I got late to and the concrete moai was being used as a door stopper before I liberated it.

Matt the Cat & I went out a little today, found a couple of things:

This guy didn't have any markings. Any ideas?? Haven't seen him before.

AND, this swanky shirt with the WHITE ZIPPER front! Love it!

Any info on the mug will be greatly appreciated, mahalo!

Hiya Mookie- what you have there has been unofficially dubbed "the naked tiki" mug in other discussions. (although I did a quik search and didnt find one under that heading)
Nobody seems to know anything about the history/mfg as far as I recall, but it is vintage and very cool in my opinion. Lots of people here have one, Im pretty sure I saw one @ PTD's place. I dont have one yet, but I will!

Jon is correct, I have one as well...always been puzzled by it and there is a picture of that mug in Tiki Quest, no indication of who it was made by though???

Was under the freeway today...lots of the usual suspect mugs. I passed on a 5' Conquistador Three Monk Witco carving for $50.00 and a few higher priced common Islander items, except for this one for $10.00...

Excited over both of these finds. Someone must have a whole set of the tableware with the masks, but I had to fight to buy this. It was in a shop two hours from my house and it took three trips to get the antiue mall to get a price on it.

Woot! Found today, #2 in my collection. I was going to flea bay it, but rather it go to a TC'er who has been looking for one. I will post it in the Trade thread if anybody is interested with my wish list.

A few weeks ago I found a new, sealed copy of Combustible Edison's "I, Swinger" CD at a mom & pop record shop. I'm not sure if it technically constitutes a Tiki find, but the song "Theme From 'The Tiki Wonder Hour'" is on this album and DigiTiki uses it as the signature tune that opens each Quiet Village podcast.

I drove 600 miles for a job interview and all I got was this mug.

Then I drove 300 miles and got these. All from Tiki-Kate.

Hawaii Collector's Expo was this past weekend in Honolulu. As usual, I found several things...some cheap post cards, Hawaiian shirts, and a few records..but I thought what was of most interest to me personally was something I've never run across before:
This lovely 20-something page color booklet on "Your Pareu (sarong) And How To Wear It" by Jack & Dorthy Fields, c1978. Chop full of beautiful photos and various Tahitian women & a few men demonstrating the various methods of tieing sarongs for various effects. I considered it a steal at $4.00

Got this mug a few weeks ago at an antique fair in Oakland. The seller said that he thought it was a hobbyist mug. I wasn't sure but I really like the mug, great colors and seemed like an early version of or inspiration for the Tepco or Harvey's Hula Girl mug.

Then the other day, in a posting discussing a photo of the original Trader Vic Kava Bowl, DustyCajun Posted This picture from a 1944 Life Magazine article on Trader Vic...

The Fog Cutter Mug in the 1944 image struck me as very familiar...

Sure looks like it could be the same mug to me but I'd appreciate peer review...

You did get one of the old and classic mugs there. I know it by site because I used to own one. Mine had very light writing on the side towards the top that said Bert Rovere's The Hurricane San Francisco, which we found out through Tiki Central used to be a Tiki Bar in San Francisco that closed down in the mid-50s.

Here are a few of my latest finds, have been finding heaps of gear lately :)

tongan tiki was one of this mornigs p/ups very big and very cheap, also the 2 x ceramic salt pepper sets are 2 i have not seen before..
Also have been finding heaps of ephemera this is 3 pieces from this mornings market search :)

A few Tiki finds from the past few weeks. We made a trip to Trader Vic's in Atlanta for the FOM event and we picked up a few pieces there. Hit a few antique stores around the area and found the rest.

I recently purchase this tiki from a fellow TC'er. It is about 41 inches high and weighs about 80 pounds. The only thing I know about it is that it may be made of mahogany and came from the Hale Tiki Bar several years ago. Does anyone out there know the name of the carver, or where or when it was carved? Thanks

A Calgary friend had a big bag of tiki "crap" that he let me rummage through. I picked these two items:

Monkeypod bowl

Little brass tiki - about 4 inches tall. Looks like a Coco Joe Lono but in brass. Never seen one of these before.

The back says "Aloha Hawaii, No. 16"

Now, this set of ashtrays is odd. They appear to be decorated with oak leaves and on the handles are tiki faces much like those found on tiki forks and spoons. They do have the little oval sticker on the bottom that say "Japan". I think they are creepy. Warning: On the next mug swaps I'll be unloading these. (With a nice mug and other stuff too.)

Bongo, I found those bowls back in July. You're missing the center tiki that turns them into some kind of Lazy Susan. They're not ashtrays! They're still odd though!

Dang it! I HAD that center Tiki, SANS the bowls! It was sitting in my kitchen cabinet for the longest time, not "pretty" enough to display by itself, and me being unable to figure out a use for that odd thing. But it was cluttering up the cabinet, and I either packed it so far away that I cannot find it right now, OR, as I believe, I sold it for cheap during one of the Tikiyaki events at the Mayflower! Oh the many times I have let go of some cryptic Tiki item and later regretted it! :)

Well... what do ya know? If someone finds themself with a center piece, I'll be glad to work a sweet deal. (And, the next time I'm in Traverse City, MI, I'll look hard for the center myself.)

Meanwhile, I found my first R-94 Volcano Bowl today! Also, I think I'm hitting my 1000th post.
