Aloha,

my latest finds from thrift stores in switzerland:

U

Attached are pics of a carved wood statue I picked up today. It's about 12 inches tall. The wood feels soft (velvety) and is light in weight. Would anyone recognize where it is from or at least the style / origin it represents. Also could anyone hazard a guess as to the type of wood? Thanks.

Stuff I picked up in the last month or so...

some tiki farm glasses stickers still on the cocktails, five bucks for all

great WWII trader vics menu!

more records, the Hawaiian Reveries was a former navy musician playing hawaiian music on a Lowery organ, recorded in Seattle

cool hat and common Leilani mugs with a local story, came from a bartender from Johnny's Dock in Tacoma said in the early 60's they served a Zombie in it.

and this shirt , label Surf 'n Sand, on the seam, copyright 1958 alfred shaheen ltd. "hawaiian village" handprinted waikiki hawaii.

this is Kaisers hawaiian village showing the kaiser dome, it was five bucks, when I took it to to the counter I saw it was missing a button so they sold it to me for two fifty!

aloha tikicoma

I have been out of the TC loop for way to long. My commute to work has been eighty six miles each way every day now and leaves little time for the finer things in life. I did manage to find this gem though. Fantastic graphics and color. Measures 23 1/2" by 17". Found in a pile of window cards from a Buffalo New York theater. Here is the link to the thread about the movie. http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=14762&forum=1

Not sure if it's a Witco but either way it's going to need a lot of TLC.

Funny sculpture that says Because of you on the pedestal.

OK, I'm gonna try to update my finds chronologically. First, I never find anything "thrifting", so this was a big deal for me. A rocks glass from Huke Lau in Chicoppe for $.69 at Savers. :D:

Set up shop at a Hot Rod show at Ralph's Diner in Worcester & scored this Ui Maikai aloha shirt, from the girl next to me, for 10 bucks!:

Picked up this Boston Braves hockey program at the Amherst Automotive Flea Market. Yes, I play hockey, but that's not why I bought this. When I opened the front cover, voila!:

On the way home, I stopped at an antique mall & scored this black Moai mug & a coupla South Seas novels.:

Score this PNG mask at a little , podunk, country antique store in NH.:

My local hot-spot yielded this stuff:

A hunting trip to Rhode Island yielded this stuff.
Two nude wahine chimney glasses from Peking Garden, four surfer girl mugs from Kowloon & a big Tepco wahine mug.

A Thursday night excursion led me to this, way cool Buddha mug from Honolulu with a great graphic of their logo on the back.

Set up shop at the Rumblers "Rumble In The Country" in Terryville, CT & made a deal with a friend for this Coco Joe's ashtray, I've been looking for for years & this Royal Hawaiian, barkcloth aloha shirt. I also found a few vintage Girly mags, most of which had, at least, some reference to the South Pacific.

My local hot-spot produced this Trader Vic's menu.

Summer Brimfield:

A late July trip to my local hot-spot had me returning home with this stuff. Anybody know anything about the Geisha Girl mug or the blue Poly-Art figure?

Paid a buck apiece for these at a local flea market.

I returned home, yesterday, from a week on Cape Cod. I did very little hunting & expected to find nothing, but I came home with this stuff.:
These guys have a foil label on them that reads; Enchanto Company, Burbank, California. Anyone have any info on them? (Sorry, my camera sucks!)

A pair of Westwoods

This guy really has me puzzled. I don't know if he's home-made, some sort of display or maybe made by some design or furniture company. He has no markings & I'd really appreciate some help identifying him.

Last, but not least, there's a little beach that always has a bunch of horseshoe crabs. This time, unfortunately, I found no live ones, just a handful of deceased. Being the opportunist that I am, I scavenged these 3 that had already had their innards picked out! :D

So, today, I hit my local hot-spot for the first time in 2 weeks to find this stuff waiting for me:

Now, I must apologize for monopolizing this thread, today. I didn't realize how much stuff I'd found over the last 3 months!

Any ideas on the origins of this ashtray? It's two heads stacked and three heads on the surface of the bowl.

Bongo - looks like the work of Totem Pottery of Port Orchard, Washington, but most of their pieces are marked with a stamp. . .

Thanks, Koolau. No stamp on this one. Here's a close-up of one of the guys in the bowl.

Different places used it: The Hawaii Kai, the Lanai, and others. I have an ad for it on page 181 of the BOT:

Hey Bongo Bungalow. These are Native Indian art 100%. These were also produced at a couple different places here in Canada and were sold at gift stores all over. There are lots of different pieces that had these faces and then were hand painted on them. Plates, bowls, mugs, shot glasses, S&P's, ash trays and lot's of other items.

I actually like the design. A long time ago I bought a mug that was the same design and scratched off all the paint and it looked pretty good (until I dropped it!). Close to looking like a Tiki but just not!

Thanks, Dan! I like this little ashtray.

gorgeous wahine in the link monsterjones, have you done other tiki related girls?

Found this cool boat shelf for my mugs.

I need to sand it down, and make it a bit more "tikified" but that will have to wait for a bit until I move.

This is one of my dogs, also eager to sail away to a new house soon.

Been awhile. I just decided to load up for one mid-year find post, since nothing too exciting has popped up round these parts recently. Found this, I love the brooding colors, it's got a very smugglers/pirates feel to it, very large 4' x 2', great original frame too. $15.00

More stuff.

  1. Kanaloa Tiki
  2. 4 Harveys Bucket mugs (from 3 different thrift stores)
  3. Knobbys Mai Tai red hula girl
  4. 3 Orchids of Hawaii Coconut mugs, I only posted one, it is different with a rougher finish
  5. Orchids Tiki
  6. Older Mai Kai rum barrell

Not pictured more Leilani mugs than I care to count.

Here are my finds from this weekend.

Happy to find a Daga mug from Pat's at Punaluu.

A few more for the bar.

An unidentified hula girl, a mug from the Mai Kai, a few Coco Joe items, and a little tiki.

This is about 8 months worth of finds, the nicer lot of it at least. The framed painting is actually a print. The artist is Harly Brown and he is known for western themed pastel work. Just curious if anyone knows more abouth this specific image. Curious if it gives off that tiki vibe to others, your two cents is welcome. Thanks

That's a very nice print!

Found these glass floats.

Not to fond of the yellow netting so I may have to come up with my own.

Anyone else have one of these? It looks like the Westwood bank only it's a mug.

I found this unmarked green torso yesterday at a flea market. Anyone ever see anything like it? Is it a vase or mug?

That sounds like a job for CSI :)

I think it was available in stores, but there are also marked ones from this cool place:

Been laying low the past couple of weekends, but I did find a couple of things here and there. Not going to post my usual suspects...

Found a few items that were duplicates I sold to the person who got me going with the whole "American Tiki Culture" obsession. Found four scorpion bowls in his neck of the woods and he ended up with the Orchids Volcano bowl and the large Trader Dicks Outrigger bowl...

2'+ wooden carved tiki, this one survived a fire. The back is burnt!

Coco Joe's plaque. Second one I have found.

Trader Dick's Tiki scorpion bowl. Numero dos por mi!

Very happy to have found this and I almost missed it...Tepco "Sea Life" scorpion bowl!

I think this paddle/war club is from Samoa, but I am still looking for an example that is close. Please help be smarter because of tiki if you know the origin of this. Nearly 4' long and very heavy. Seller mentioned Fiji and WWII, but I am not sure because of the color of the finish (although the carvings are filled with white ochre). Looking at the discoloring, it appears to have been used as a paddle at some point?

nice Duane, love the coco joes plaque.

Stopped by a few local places on the way home from work on Friday and found a few matchbooks, including one from my hometown Don the Beachcomber in Santa Barbara.

(I have been to 5 of these places)

Two Harvey's bucket mugs, one with the different lock lettering that you don't see very often

Three Daga bamboo mugs from different Hawaiian restaurants.

A Libbey jagged tooth and a small Westwood.

Here's what I found Today:

I don't know what it is. I'm not convinced it's Tiki, but I'm guessing before its finish wore off, and became chalky, it could have been a cool bowl insert with some 151 burning in that bowl. They resemble those Trader Vic's salt and pepper shakers in what looks to be their original color and size etc. (4 inches tall, 5 inches wide)

Does anyone have a clue as to what this is?!?!?!

Hecho en Mexico.

Buzzy Out!

I got this vintage PNG storyboard today - it's almost four feet wide and over two feet tall. I need to research these more so I can follow the story:

The gondolier guy has some paper stuck to him, which should be easily removed. Other than that, the condition is great.
I've only recently gained an appreciation for PNG stuff, but now I have the bug.

And it's called a "Circle of Friends"

Thanks! That explains why it looks like 4 masked Mexican wrestlers!
