I found a reference to Lepanto Crafts - An interior decor company that was in business in the Philippines in the 1960s.

Lepanto Crafts seems like the most likely target. Dank Mucho.

Excited to find this rough little guy here in the Midwest. He's about two feet tall.

Not exactly "tiki" but still pretty cool a pair of large wall hangings. There is a little bit of wear/damage to them, but the pictures make it look worse than it really is. They look great in the dining room. Will have them mounted to the wall later today. I love the mix of the painting on the board and the carved wood. Nice use of mixed media.

Quick stop today yielded me the records I found and posted in Tiki Music and a couple of other items...

The weirdest set of Tiki salt and pepper to date I have found and not seen. Probably made by Treasure Craft-nope, realized this morning they are from the Lanai!

Third set of Disneyland Moai salt and pepper.

Souvenir photo cover and photo from Lau Yee Chai at Kalakaua and Kuhio Aves, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Souvenir photo cover and photo from "The South Seas at Waikiki, Kalakaua and McCully, Waikiki Hawaii.

It's not surprising to see a vintage tiki mug/bowl labeled "planter", but how often do you find an actual tiki planter? Especially a Tiki Bob planter?
He's 4.5" tall & same for the diameter. It is all one piece, the drain dish is attached. It's marked 'Japan' on the bottom and has a small Woolworth label - though I can't make out a price.
Anybody ever seen one before? I've searched and come up with nothing...

Picked up this swanky vintage pewter tiki necklace in the original box.....

I've seen one of those Tiki bob planters before, Tiki-troll found one of those planters back in may..

Found this guy a couple months ago...didn't know if he was his own thread worthy so I will land him here first but has anyone ever seen one of these??

Its old for sure and his inspiration seems pretty obvious. Now just time to find an appropriate indoor tropical for Planter Bob.

Looks like International "borrowed" Tiki heads from Coco Joe :)

Maybe I'm the last kid on the block to find a Mr. Bali Hai mug, but I'm very excited about it. So now I'm hoping to find out when the restaurant first used these and if they still do.

Bali Hai still uses a version of this mug, manufactured by Tiki Farm.

Ah yes, I see that now LOL. Thanks. And that the Bali Hai may have started using these mugs in 1955? Or was that just the Mr. Bali Hai statue?

I don't know when they began using the mug, it would be interesting to learn. It makes sense that 1955 would be the earliest as that's when the restaurant was renamed.

Good estate sale today, who needs summer.
A 26 inch Maori tiki carved in Rotorua, New Zealand (The other land down under).

4 tiki matchbooks and nary a tiki on any of them.

A 1948 copy of Kon Tiki without the later moai cover that’s all in Norwegian, may have to go to St. Olaf for a translation.

Almost a full pint of Okolehao liquor, I’m not sure if old booze keeps but I’m going to treat it like cobra venom and drink a little at a time until I build up immunity just in case.

And these full bottles, they aren't tiki but after a few ounces it won’t matter.

Nice tourist carving, Nauga! This is what it is based on:

Thanks for the history lesson, I thought that tiki has the look of a surprised woman who just got walked in while getting out of the shower. But now I know a perfect place to hang one of those "bar bells" to ring that signify another round.

Slow couple of weeks...

A La Carte Menu from Sea View Inn "On The Beach At Haleiw'A".

Large moai salt and pepper with red rhinestone eyes.

Don Ho and The Aliis at Duke's rock's glasses.

SOS (Society of Seven) at the Outrigger rock's glasses.

Don Ho and the Aliis Aloha Tower rock's glasses.

Although never identified as DTBC (I think I read that Bosko said this may have been from Trader Nicks)?

The tikis are definitely the same ones used as salt and pepper shakers at Don's.

Anyway, I found two of these yesterday!

found this witco fountain at a small auction house in vermont

Stir sticks, 3 menus from: SS Matsonia/ SS Monerey/ SS Mariposa, Treasure Craft mug, unused license plate in DMV mail envelope, Tikis Grill fan...

Scored a huge lot of Orchids mugs / bowls today most never removed from the box. R-1 Headhunters 6 to a box (2 of each color), Orchids bamboo mugs (6 to a box), Orchids two piece pineapples (two to a box), Orchids R-94 coffee mugs (six to a box), Mint in Box Orchids volcano bowls, and a ton of loose cocnuts, headhunters, pineapple's, coffee mugs, and bamboo mugs. The photo is only a small amount. Is anyone out there interested in a box or two of the bamboo mugs, coffee mugs, or pineapple's for trade or to buy? Let me know.

Here are some finds from a recent trip to Auckland:

Easter Island engraving, circa 1890.

German lithograph, from the 1890s. The title is somewhat misleading - it actually depicts Hawaiian artifacts.

And this fine piece of New Zealand tiki graphic design:

But wait, there's more:

And when was this fine tome published? 1908:

I am curious to know if there were any US books about Hawaii from the same period that adopted this level of tiki design in their covers...

Today's finds!
Stockton Islander Mug

2 Mini Skipper Kent Bowls

Top of some broken PNG? piece. I thought it was cool so picked it up. Looks like it could be the top of a staff.

Thanks for lookin' and happy huntin'!!!

T

"though it was cool", yeah it's cool

Stopped by the paper show on the way to John-O's Highbrow-Lowbrow crawl and picked up a few nice items.

First up Stockton Islander, Don the Beachcomber Hollywood, Cliftons Pacific Seas, Luau, Coco Joes store, etc.

Next, Ming Tree Motel, Bahia Motel, Tiki Junction, Tahitian village, Bahooka, Kon Tiki, Trade Winds, etc.

Finally, a Catalina brochure with Christian's Hut, big card from the Tikis, Coral Reef napkin (courtesy of Sabu), Ulu Mau village, two from the Polynesian Room at the Waldorf hotel, 7 Seas, Cliftons and some Hawaii hotels.

A good way to start the crawl.

Nice haul! No wonder there was nothing left when I went there Sunday :)

Going away, but not before my tiki finds posting...

X-ray tiki salt and peppers, Orchids of Hawaii.

King's Island Moai salt and pepper.

PTD, Nice menus. You got those from Bamboo Ben??

DC

DC, Ben must have gotten those when he worked on the refurbishment of the Tuscon Kon Tiki.

Feel exceedingly fortunate to have found a set of 4 of these yesterday! Have been keeping my eyes peeled for ANY Kona Club Oakland mug for at least 2 years now. I believe these are the Lagoon Green glaze versions. Dig it!

nice find faces

Found this Tiki Farm mug (unmarked) from a cool, mid-century furniture shop on a visit to Melbourne, Florida called Out'A Space.

Yeah, I think I paid too much, but in a cool shop I want to buy SOMETHING so that I can be a part of it. Know what I mean?

Dusty,

Yes, from Ben, he was selling these over in Tiki Marketplace in his garage sale.

Picked up some carvings today. Not sure about of couple of them?

Papua New Guinea carving.

Not sure of the orgin of this guy. Kind of looks like a tiki mask on his head?

Older Nifo Oti, damaged handle.

Shield that is about 5' tall, heavy with a crocodile carving. Cannot place this to anywhere specific, although I am guessing possibly African? Most African shields are made of hide or skin, so this could be from some other exotic locale??

Edit-it has been pointed out the style and design of the carving represents Aboriginal crocodile design. Thanks!

A Green Tiki lighter. There are hobbyist mugs of this tiki but the lighter seems to be professionally made. There are no markings and not sure what the story, if there is one, there is behind the lighter.
