I was at Goodwill looking for a holiday tux, and I couldn't resist the 4 pack of Accoutrements soon to be vintage mugs. The other one is a Lono Alli's mug. The guy who sold it to me said he had 50 tiki mugs for sale last month, all for only $5 each, and that was the last one he had. I guess I slept in that day and missed it all...

They actually are legal to own in the United States,but many of them are in museums.The law states that it is not legal to deal in living organs and tissue.The shrunken head falls into the artifact category,so it is a grey area.This one came back from South America in the 50's from a service member.It was then given as a gift about 10 years ago to the person that I acquired it from.When closely inspected,you can see eyelashes,whiskers above the lips,hairs in the nostrils and other fine details.

i'm thinking this is the head of a chimp or monkey... not buying the human head theory.

okay, here's the latest finds - picked up 2 JPco. 3 tiki faced bucket mugs. I also scored this Louie "B" volcano tiki bowl - it's huge. Could not find either of these on ooga-mooga. Found the tiki bowl without the volcano, though. Didn't know Jpco. made bucket mugs like these....

JP co. is short for johnson products company. They had a place in chicago back in the day. from what i gather they sold tropical decor and made mugs, including the famous andres bumatay mug.

Trader Santa was early this year....

Bongo Fury informs me that this is likely from the Santa Barbara Don The Beachcomber, which is a cool thing!

Nice! Original lamps are perhaps the most difficult to come by Tiki finds.

Found a cool coconut mug. I know that is redundant since all coconut mugs are cool by definition.

But I have not seen one with the "Hawaii I" marking on it before.

Does anyone know who the maker is? I know I have seen it before on something else.

Its been dry lately for me, but the few pieces I have found have been decent....

Went to an auction tonight and got these....5 treasure craft and 12 coco joes pieces. Many have the original tags.

These coco joes are the 80's - 2000's era right? (Looking for Buzzy's answer on this)...

Whatever era they are from, I was happy to get the Menehune holding the tiki.....

This find perhaps belongs in Beyond Tiki,
but as it may have a broader appeal I'll add it here.

This painting is an original oil on canvas by a little known (to me at least)
German artist and is signed: Carla Merck - Damsthal.

The man from whom I purchased the painting informed me that he had acquired it
in New Zealand some 30 years ago and that he believed that it was painted in Samoa
by Carla Merck at or around the time that German power ended there in 1914.
He also said that there are paintings of hers in Germany dated around 1916 which
might indicate that she left Samoa for the Fatherland at about that time.

Regardless of the actual provenance I think it will look just fine somewhere in my
bar (still under construction).

Just remember, you're lucky to live in SoCal, while hunting for tiki. Some of us live on the east coast, and never see anything that good.

THe pic by bigbro reminded me of the many times I picked my son up at Adventure City-He worked there as a teenager and in front of the tiki's was a good place to rendezvous.

The front of the bank is 3-3/8", the sides are 2-1/4" and it's 3-3/4" tall.

Goodwill finds. Both are so dark it was hard to get a good picture of them.

Found at a thrift store.
Picked it up and put it down several times before I finally decided it would "fit" into my tiki lounge. It's an 18"x18" tapa sewn onto woven palm. The Honu's shell rises from the center of the piece about 2".

I found this weird guy in a thrift store yesterday. It appears to be made of a sintered ceramic material and has a sandy feel to it. about 4 inches tall. Is it a tiki frog, frog tiki, or something else? Anybody recognize it? Mahalo.

After looking at the sculpt closely, you can see that strange wood-grain like texture on it. It's a dead give away. It was created using a 3-dimensional printer, aka you design it on a computer in some sort of 3d digital design program, upload it to the printer software and the printer will actually print/sculpt that design in various materials.

Thanks for the heads up on the 3D printer. I have seen them but it never crossed my mind that 3D-P was used for this little fellow. Here is a link to You Tube showing a video of a tiki planter being made using this technology.

Yeah, it's a really neat system. It crossed my mind because I remembered that a member on here created a couple pendants the exact same way.

A friend proposed to do that for my Tiki Ti mug. This piece does indeed look like someone tried to dabble in Tiki mug design, not half bad, kinda Mayan/SciFi... and yes, a truly odd reversal of the natural thrift shop process, to have a mug show up in one before it was even produced! (just assuming that it wasn't, why would it have ended up there otherwise)

I found this alien looking guy at a thrift store in Denver this weekend.

Looks to be from Tahiti :)
