I saw that listing too but I'm not sure if it's the same one. That listing says it's on page 20 of Tiki Quest and that page shows a chocolate brown one that is uniform in color, like the black version.

picked these up today all at the same thrift store

slightly chipped DollarTree resin tiki statue, Norwegian Cruise Line Lono,
Chiki Tiki Coconut Mug: Paradise ISland Bahamas,

Vato- thanks
Zombie- good eye

Jon, You have a treasure in those tins. I just shared your pix with my wife CeCe and she was as amazed as I. We were at the RH just 9 days ago.

Nui- yes it is...
:)

I landed a big fish...this nicely carved Ku is over 5' tall, a solid trunk of wood (heavy as all), and came by way of fellow who said the original owner got it in Ft. Worth. As much as I'd like to think he was once sitting at Ren Clark's Polynesian Village, the style isn't in keeping with what was made for the PV (unless Mr. Clark also dragged a few pieces home from Hawai'i or...)

Dat is one very nice Ku indeed!
Congrats!

GrandKahu- killer find

brought these 4 back from Honolulu; top lft from “tiki’s Grill” , Waikiki. Bottom lft , bought at La Mariana Sailing Club, Gecko/South Seas Art’s, The clear “mug” is quite common in SoCal cept this one is plastic as used at Duke’s Waikiki.

Supposedly, the devil mug was only gonna be available on halloween 2013 put they still had plenny on Nov.. 1. I’m not a huge fan of this type mug but I bought em for sentimental reasons. Btw, the Halloween night street party was beyond words. I’ll be posting pix soon as I get em sorted out. Not sure if they belong in “events” or “general"

Cheers

Nice memories to bring back from Hawaii in the forms of mugs. Can't wait to see that awesome looking Gecko mug in person. Welcome home Brother.

Nui- you can never have to many drinking vessels

More photos from the 8mm films

Las Vegas needs a film festival-a tiki film festival!

As usual, pretty slim pickin's up here behind the Cheddar Curtain, but I did manage to give these two fellas a new home: a Fire Hut mug from Kon-Tiki in Tuscon, which I suspect is not of a particularly ancient vintage, and a Steve Crane Kon-Tiki Ports mug. I almost picked up a blue Libbey Moai mug as well, but the seller wanted far more for it than I was willing to pay, so I passed on that.

Nui- great idea...

More snap shots of the films

Surf time :)

Runaway canoe

Ouch

Worst sound ever, slurp of an empty tiki mug through my straw!!!

Last couple weeks worth of stuff:

Two pieces of 4' x 6' tapa from Fiji

A pair of Maori handled bowls dated 1980:

13" Tongan Hawaiian tiki dated 2000, 22" PNG wall hanger, 8" junk tiki

A pair of CocoJoe's and a HIP ripoff made by Rainbow__? of Hawaii

Harvey's Green Sneakytiki mug and an OMC The Tikis Monterey Park Moai

Stirrer stick and crude fork spoon set

Maori photo book

Has a lot of tiki carvings in it. Here's one of a carver working on a piece for the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii:

A lot of postcards from Tahiti, Fiji, Bora Bora, and New Zealand

Maori, some doubles and triples of each:

Topless Tahitian:

And a crap load more island paradise ones that weren't tits or tikis I won't bother to show...

Another Italian made S.S. Lurline Royal Luau tray:

Different tag than my other one I found 4-5 months ago:

Mass produced modern Tahiti picture I bought and then improved by doctoring up the frame :

Buzzy Out!

I always love your finds Buzzy.

I know you don't walk into an antique store and buy everything off the shelf and then post like you did lots of work "finding" your items...BUT ..you do pretty good

I like that tray. I just found one in all my stuff I didn't even remember buying . No tag on the back though

Didn't actually collect this (and it's not actually "tiki") but found it hanging on a wall in a 200 year old home in Tubutama Mexico :D

I don't know if this qualifies as a" TiKi find". I was getting my morning coffee at Starbucks and saw this coconut mug on the shelf. I couldn't resist.

MDM, Dat’s so cool!

Last few pics from the 8mm films

The Royal Hawaiian Tiki

  1. Large Seminole Hard Rock Casino, Tampa, handle mug- made in USA

  2. Kahiki Mug

  3. OMC Large Pineapple Mug- Usually marked Mark Thomas Outrigger on bottom , but this one is blank, just the OMC sticker on the bottom

One of my favourite mugs is a little ships captain - its small & probably considered 'non tiki' but I like the nautical theme. I have found quite a few with metallic & red bits but I prefer the all brown glaze.

Today I spotted another all brown one like I already had... so I brought it again :)

Also, I've not posted a carving find in a while but my maori collection is growing...

A few were eBay, most were in the wild - I'm enjoying how they're all different :)

scored this super rare fu manchu mug in perfect shape marked Hala kahiki for a lousy $4.50 today !!

Great find Tipsy!

Last week's stuff:

I bought this guy because he was so huge. Never seen one this size in person before. Just over 15" tall

9" Hawaiian Tongan styled tiki

14" tall PNG guy

I need to fashion him a new eye

Mai Kai mug:

Coco joe's Tiki letter opener:

Buzzy Out!

14" tall PNG guy

I need to fashion him a new eye

Why not just a patch? Aaargh!

Nothing old or special. Found these at Home Goods. One is a PNG-ish shield, the other is an outdoor solar light I picked up a couple of years ago. I knew it was destined for the indoors so it stayed in a corner until finally getting a tapa covering over the white plastic diffuser and a light-rope pushed up inside.

Found several postcards in Waikiki at a hat store

My Hanukkah/Thanksgiving present:

A Maori Teko Teko with "December '76" penciled on bottom.

I don't normally find anything locally, but I did happen to come across some good macthbooks recently:

Three old ones from the Portland area:

And some not so local ones:

This week, I got a few new matchbooks that I didn't have yet, and a few doubles I accidently bought:

These came from one lot that I was able to purchase only these highlights from. I've been hoping to find the San Diego DTBC for a while now

And a few more from another lot

I like the Tahitian Bali Hai one:

I had to buy a $10 big bag just to get that little stash. All I could see from the outside were the two Trader Vic's, so I took a gamble.

Last find: Glass with the word "Tiki" on it:

Buzzy Out!

Buzz on fire with da matchbooks

Today's

T

Picked up these two Shag prints off craigslist last night.

I actually found the one on the left in a thrift store for $1.99..it was half price that day too

Good score!

Found the bowl on the right in a thrift yesterday. Detail is much nicer on the other bowl which I bought years ago at the Crowne Plaza during Tiki Oasis. Not vintage-marked “made in China:” For half a buck I’m not complaining.
Cheers

This week's stuff:

Giant PNG mask. About 33" tall (44" if you add the feathers on top and bottom), by 22" or so wide:

lots and lots of shells...

I think only 2-3 are missing

Signed, with the price tag of $840!

Price tag was from here:
melanisian arts

Info on the carver and this mask style here:
Kambaramba Village, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea

Here's kingstiedye holding it up for scale:

A pair of storyboards from Palau:

One had the story on the back

Most dangerous place to be at the swap meet on sunday morning was the laser straight line between myself, this Maori lamp, and the seller:

You could have got trampled to death and not even slowed me down a single pace...

Solomon islands fishhead faced guy with seahorse sideburns carving, and a pair of Tahitian mini tikis:

marked Tane on one:

Handled mug with some printed company promo logo on the back:

Big stack of postcards. Highlights

Two Tahiti ones with stone tikis

My favorite is the Solomon Islands topless one, with the two figural carvings next to them:

Looks like the male figure is peeking at the dancers!
And a little collection of topless wahines from around the pacific:

There were about 70 more that I got of island women who left their tops on, dancers, and other pretty island scenes...

Buzzy Out!

Buzzy that mask is so cool and Dan just loves those postcards. It was wonderful to see you and Christina on Saturday. Wendy

Super nice find on that PNG mask Buzzy! Congrats!
