So no estate or yard sales for a while

Started with about 6 thrift stores

Huge...

Then I was lucky enough to find a guy that wanted to unload all his Tiki stuff

Lastly

Found at a thrift today. “Waikiki Calls” was a production (show) about Waikiki that ran for six years in the 80’s at the Waikiki shopping Plaza which I think is still in operation.

Windows 8 is the worst ever! I miss Windows XP still. Thankfully I have not dropped or broken a mug in all these years.

Had a fair day browsing thrifts yesterday.

I was thrilled to snag this Dole/ Disney sipper at 99 cents less the 50% discount on all items in the store.

Not sure If this goes here or Beyond tiki or crafts or where but here it is for now.
Christmas ornament (12”) It’s plastic and thanks to the light guru TikiSkip I could see a cool swag lamp in my future

It’s heavy/outdoor plastic but overall much, much lighter then glass.
Hardest part will be deciding the color of the netting I will use.I’m leaning towards the Blue net which we found beachcombing last month on Kuaui. I can use clear or colored bulbs-the possibilities are almost endless.

Christmas came early for us today with an estate sale find, just a couple blocks from home no less. It was the almost mythical Lanai fogcutter mug, just casually sitting on a kitchen counter, and brazenly daring anyone to see the beauty in its bizarre logo tiki design.

I like the blue net as well, plus is has a story behind it making it much better.
Also do you think that globe would transmit light?
If it would, plastic like that can be cut with a dremel tool.
I have even used a hole saw before, would make a cool light.

TikiSkip, My brother was kind enough to tell me about his Christmas ornament find. I too wondered if the globe would transmit light so yesterday I went down to the place and picked up only four of them. I came home and drilled a hole and then used a jig saw to make the hole wider. I put in a 25 watt light bulb and liked what I saw. The place is closed until Tuesday so I will be there and buy their remaining stock. They had 36 left when I left yesterday.

I tried it with a yellow and a red bulb.

Dam you are going to have floats everywhere!

One more idea for you.
If you have that many why don't you put a light in a few and
then place in your landscape, tuck the net under the globe and it will look like
a float that has washed up on the beach type o thing.
Kinda bury the globe in ground some to look best.
Then just bury the cord that goes to your light.
Great find on these.
Are they new or old?
THIS is what the old time tiki joints used for their lights as they did not want
to spend a ton o cash or mess around with drilling holes in glass that would break.
Now all these need are YEARS of cig smoke and dust to look perfect.

Here's a float from the Kahiki auction.
Well I think this is decorator glass made for décor not for
being in the ocean on a fish net as it is too thin to last in the ocean.
BUT it is very cool and it sold for $134.00 plus 10% on top of that.
I can't buy things like that and then sell you a light made from
such high dollar glass, the light with ship would be over $250.00 bucks!

So this is what makes Globes like the one you found so attractive for tiki bar lighting.
The people who want glass globes most of the time don't want to
pay glass globe prices for a light.

But then most of the lights I make are glass globes.
If I find a globe glass, plastic or resin I tie it.
Heck the coolest globe I ever tied was PAPER and that is in Svens house.

I put a step by step in "other crafts". TikiSkip added a tip which you should consider. He is a master of lamps and has constructed a ton of high quality lamps.

Here's a menu I found a while back with a
Pic of the big bowl in it.

I wonder if the other mugs shown had the Aku-Aku name on them.
None of them listed on ooga when I did a search of Aku-Aku.

I remember a while back when Tiki Lee sold the black 3 Moai mug he said it didn't have the name on it.

Matson lines made them available on their cruise ships....Monterey, Mariposa, Lurline etc.

You'll see them with different names and dates on the plaque. I'm not sure if they sold them on the ships or they were a give away.

I have a few, I've bought them as cheap as $5 and passed on them for $40 in antique stores.
