That bowl going to hit the shop?

Most likely a keeper.

Understandable... It's a nice one.

Loving all of this stuff - keep it coming!

We ended up taking home a little mask instead.

Years ago at an estate sale for a Garlic rancher in Gilroy California we also found that mask. He traveled the world and bought it back from PNG. It looks like our masks were made by the same artist/villager.

Your mask and ours was very sparce on top when it came to the cassowary feathers. On eBay I won an auction for a small cassowary feather wisk broom, hung on the wall to the right. I pulled out some of the feathers and stuck them into the top of our mask to restore it.

Congratulations on your find, we think it is one of the best PNG masks we have ever seen. Cheers, Wendy

Picked from the wreckage of a tall ship who's name is lost. It's belly torn on the reef and it's cargo thrown on the nameless sands of a forgotten Pacific island. I gladly traded the old captain of a copra hauler a half empty bottle of rum for it :D found at a local flea market. Rusty, crusty broken and dented. It's perfect for my bar and will soon shine again as a hanging lamp for that touch of nautical style.

Slow couple weeks out there:

UA Menehune decanter without the lei

Canlis, Bali Hai and kona Kai matchbooks:

HIP pineapple thermometer:

Tahitian Tarot card deck:

Graphic cards:

Buzzy Out!

I found all these old Frankie's Tiki Room Chairs by the dumpster at Frankie's Tiki Room. I'm trying to find out a value for them. Someone told me to come here and ask. Any help?

Ask Buzzy.

Quick trip to Washington and Oregon.

Two boxes of Tiki found on Craigslist.

One box of Tiki carvings, Coco Joes, HIP and other items.

One box of Tiki mugs.

Some highlights...

Tiki Bob's Maori salt and peppers and a Lanai San Mateo earring mug.

These six mugs I have not seen before. They have handles in the back.

Three more of these guys,

Polynesian Village Boston Moai mug.

Later,

PTD

Paycho Tiki D we just don't know how you find this stuff. When we go out there's so little. We look forward to the next time you let us view your collection. Cheers, Wendy

Nice bali hai ashtray and some matchbooks...

I did't need another tiki, but I bought this ugly guy, crudely carved too....

But he makes a hell of an ashtray stand

Maori wall hanging cup holder

Easter Island Tangata manu

KC Mug, OMC Outrigger bucket mug, made in japan Hawaii mug, and Orchids R1 mug

just scored two giant united airlines tikis today !!!

Good stuff in the fields today, 2 Coco Joes lava tikis I didn't have, a wooden tiki in skirt and lei that says Bora Bora on the back, a brown mug with 2 different Kus on it that I suspect is a cheap Chinese one (I hope I'm wrong) and a Suffering Bastard Martinique Rum bottle.

All this time I thought I had another bottle that I believed someone modified the cap on but now I see the one I have is much larger and heavier. So I'm wondering if Trader Vic's made suffering bastard paperweights.

The luck shown here or rather tiki hunting skills are first rate. You guys rock! Wendy

Thanks PTD, La tour looks close, but different.
The La Tour bowl is curved and touched the ground, mine doesn't.
The Ku headdresses are shaped differently too (la Tour is scalloped at edges).
And then, not shown in photos, the bases are different, glazed/not glazed etc.
Could've changed over time, but I think they're divergent enough to be someone else (knock-off?)

My recent rescue. No info on him.

Classic! Probably thrown out by someone junking his basement bar!

Just won this auction. I think I got a good deal...

Mahalo all,

I just found a set of eight of these cocktail glasses with fishing net and float pattern and a gold rim. I've seen very similar netting glasses with sytlized fish which were marked for Libbey, so I assume these may be a variant pattern, but they are not marked. If anyone thinks differently or has seen others of this design, let me know! Also, it is not readily apparent in the picture, but they taper from top (smaller) to bottom (wider).

Thanks!
GK

Love dose masks Dagg. Grand K, dose tumblrs are way beyond cool! Congrats to you both.
Cheers

Just found this Orchids of Hawaii R-92 tonight at a thrift shop! $1.99 :)

I picked up these two Paul Marshall mugs and was told by the owner that they came from the Detroit Statler Hilton Tiki Bar (presumably Trader Vic's). Her father-in-law worked there. Has anyone ever seen this mug on a TV menu?

Furniture store 'CB2' has a nice little line of Tiki tumblers and cocktail glasses.... Good prices, too!

Found these yesterday, vintage McDonalds Hawaii glasses! Looks like you can find these on ebay with the original box sometimes for around $10.

I finally found a batch of items from The Beachcomber in Edmonton Alberta Canada. Never thought id see this stuff as the place is older than me and has long time been closed

That's a nice set - it's something that would look good displayed in a little nook or crevice....

Here is most of my haul from French Polynesia (apart from one print which is currently being framed):

Hinano beer glasses and a Vahine tiki print by Olivier Louzé, an artist who lives on Moorea: http://louzeo.fr

Tiki print by Arno, an artist from Rangiroa: http://tahitienfrance.free.fr/culture/arno.htm

Marquesan tiki by Séverin Taupotini, a master carver from Nuku Hiva who has been carving since the late 1950s:

Tane tiki print by Olivier Louzé and a wooden mask from Nuku Hiva:

Marquesan tiki by Benoît Tamarii, another master carver from Nuku Hiva:

Marquesan tiki bowl:

Resin twin Marquesan tikis, purchased in the Papeete market:

Three framed Marquesan tiki prints on tapa:

Tabu beer glasses from Tahiti:

Beautiful stuff! Especially love that bowl.

About every 6 months I have a nice thrift store find. This one was $8 dollars for everything. Shows there are still some gems to find out there in the wild even in Ohio. The diver glasses have been on my wish list for a long time. Was shocked to find 11 of them at one time. I love the old-school glassware. There are more then I need, I will offer some up for trade on the marketplace.

Who says there's no Exotica in Houston?! Found this classic Martin Denny yesterday for .99c!

I found a large lot of menus. Most weren't Polynesian, but they were vintage and interesting.

Pictured are menus from:

The Tahitian Room at the Sillman Hotel in Spokane, WA. I don't think I've seen that menu before.
The Polynesia
2 Kon Tiki Ports menus from Portland, OR and a souvenir menu from the Chicago location.
Trader Vic's in Portland, OR.
Northwest Orient Airlines Hula-Muu travel brochure from 1961.

After a very long drought, I finally made a nice score today:

  1. A set of 6 Port Light glasses: I think these are the retail version, as there are no Trader Vic's markings on them. $20 for the set!

  2. A George Pisani two-faced "Tiki" decanter made for Arrow Liquors in 1960. This appears on page 155 of Tiki Quest, but after looking at it more closely, it's clearly a highly stylized representation of a court jester, as it's wearing a belled fool's cap. Oh well, it still looks Tiki Moderne enough for my bar.

  3. The smaller version of the Disneyworld Polynesian Village two-faced mug to keep my larger version company.

Good finds........

Jon
