Crazy conga! observed is a understatement
with that cranium its telepathy.
Nice work as usual.

Like the bike wind chill might be a sore spot
right now.

C

Thanks guys, and hello everyone. Still moving ahead with the Fishermans
God/Manaia panel. Some fresh snow up here but we are temporarily out of
the deep freeze

I know I'm in tough company here with all the great stuff posted lately,
Skully, Bowana, Mooney, Lakesurfer, and others, but I just needed to do one
of these guys. Just about finished with shaping and sanding, and then
I'll try to fancy things up a little bit. I think it looks kinda funky
upside down too.

See ya soon and have fun carving kids.

Dang Conga...look at all that snow. It takes a true carver to get out and work in that stuff. The work is killa! Keep kickin' out doses of that Conga magic. Your work is major brain food my friend. :)

Aloha Congatiki!!!
Your carving is looking great my friend!Keep warm and keep carving ,Aloha , Mooney

J

Only 6 short more months until shirt sleeve carving weather. :)

The way you positioned the arm holes and the cut out around the, um, er, *
$&$% area, was a talented way to add another tiki face in the carving.

C

Thanks for peeking-in guys. The groundhog says we get six more weeks
of winter...that gives me a lot of time to be patient in finishing this
one. Also started a little wall piece that I'll toss into the
"tiki exchange" if its good enough, so I will be bizzie enough till
spring.
And Johnny...I didn't notice the "hidden face" that you mentioned
until you mentioned it...the "thingie" makes him sorta look like an
Elephant-iki.

You're killin me Conga....

Man that looks cold! Eeek!

C

Well it's a wrap on the Cook Island Fisherman's God/Manaia
panel. 52 inches of cedar tiki love coming your way from the
hinterlands of northern Wisconsin

Thanks for stopping in for a peek, and thanks for all the recent
inspiration in the carving thread. Happy happy happy.

Well it's about Time you finished this guy, I been Waiting and Waiting. He really Looks Great, Love the stain job. Still love the Spy Guy too all he needs is the hat.

Thanks Ben. Love the cartoon. Spy vs Spy is next in line for
completion, should I carve a hat too?

J

You pulled this challange off well. Nice job.

B

"Spy vs Spy is next in line for
completion, should I carve a hat too?"

Yes I vote for the Hat.

Conga... as usual another unusual piece from my Northwoods carving brother! Great finish on this one... love the look!

We are done with our latest 6 inch snow storm and are in the process of sending you the next one. I'm pretty sure that Winter Storm Watches are in effect for your part of the state and you will enjoy a Friday afternoon of shuffling cars around and moving snow.

74.5 inches and counting here... carving outside is a faint memory for me and Spring seems very, very far away.

Looking forward to the next piece...

B

This guy is "right on" Conga...good job man.

If you and Lake ever need a break from that nasty white stuff, come on down to San Diego for a look see. We'll post you up till your bones thaw out.

S

Nice work Conga, it always makes me happy happy to see you posting
your work.

The Tangamanaia turned out sweet all stained up, and I really liked the subtle surface decoration, but it's this guy that worries me:

Are you sure he's only observing?

Thanks Johnny and Lake, we have to keep working hard to represent the
"Northern Guild of Tiki Central."
Ben...alright...Spy with hat. If I pull it off I can start carving
cowboys.
Babalu...that sounds like a nice offer. When the groundhog predicted
6 more weeks of winter I envisioned ALL snow gone by mid-march. Believe
me, it's not gonna happen. Even though I do a lot of skiing, this shit
is really getting me down.
I'm glad my stuff makes you happy, Seeks. I'm really anxious to get outside
and start working on some big stuff.
And thanks to you Paipo, nice to have you stop in. I have been sorta lazy
with "Spy" cuz I got a little to skinny in the waist and I'm worried that
he will turn into a large body-less pendant. Gonna get back to work tonight
and get this guy finished.

Another amazing artist on TC.

I just spend a better part of an hour (don't tell the boss) browsing through and getting a feel for your work and I'm quite impressed. Your tiki's are top notch and I'm really diggin' the offbeat pieces you've done of the winter. I'm no expert, but I know what I like and I'm keeping an eye on this for sure.

Great work.

Hello Flatblack, and welcome to Tiki Central. Thanks for your
kind remarks on my stuff, I really appreciate it! Please come
back often and see what's happening in Conga's little corner of
the world, and don't let your boss catch you!
I have tried to create a body of work that is a little different,
someone off the beaten path, but still rooted in authentic polynesian
art. I'm glad some of it caught your attention.

I'm keeping an eye on you guys...

S

Wow conga, he is scary, alien, bird mannish
and tiki cool.

Thanks Seeks, he scares me too. In fact the prospect of NEVER having outside
carving weather is scaring me as well, we were 17 below zero a few days ago.
But I picked up 6 8-foot chunks of basswood yesterday and I am proceeding
with great excitement towards the light of spring.
Also knocked out this fella from a piece of oak. It will be the last time
I do anything with oak...to many slivers.

Conga,

SOON, the snow will melt and you will be outside carving. Hell, in a few months you will be worrying if the ice in your drink will last long enough.....

Keep doing what you are doing and before you know it you will have a few more beautiful carvings, some new skills and perspectives, and spring will be here. If you are totally freaking out, grab a cheapo plane ticket and come sit by the pool with me for a few days - open invite.

Nice stuff Boss,

Yeah Right! Ha Ha

The Oak NZ piece looks pretty good.

You should make another one of those spy guys and stain it ebony. Not every body has their own agency.

T

Way to go Conga! Great stuff! BTW: The HAT. Yes!

[ Edited by: tikigap 2008-02-25 20:29 ]

Thanks for the invite GMan, very very tempting. Too bad I still have to
work. And praise all that is tiki, it is starting to warm up. Lotsa snow
melted today.
Johnny, still working on the Spy figure. I was really close to throwing the
intimidating bastard onto the junk pile and then he tricked me into actually
working and thinking. We're falling in love.
And Gapper, thanks for the kind words, definitely a hat, but he might not
need it till next winter.
Whatever this doggone thing is, bird, mosquito, spy, tiki, no I guess he's
definitely not tiki, he looks leaner but still tough.

Now he has to stay under wraps until he's finished and stained. Big logs
await with the warm weather. More tiki stuff, I promise.

He's got a real bird look to him, but also very alien.

Very cool. I like him, quite unique.

S

He is looking bad a** more and more.
Love the yellow shade contrast.

Whoa Conga, I step away for a little while and looks what goes on!
Great job. :)

B

Don't Slow down Conga, the Spy guy is lookin great. And when you come to visit GMAN, take a few days off and come over here so you can help me carve your Lono, he needs your help! C'mon Down!!1

Thanks to everyone who helped push this guy along the past two months.
Turns out he's not a spy, he's a wildass headhunter. He gets much respect
from the other creatures in the Conga Zoo.

Still in planning stages on his hat :) (-:

B

Conga, Whoa! A Spy vs Spy Headhunter! Man, there is just sooo much crazy fun stuff happening on TC lately...I love it! Everyone's skill set seems to be really dialing in as well.

Great job Conga! Your a stud ole man!

Well that certainly gave him a little more edge. Nice.

B

Unbelievable! Way TOP Shelf Conga.
Now are you gonna make a white one with a shrunken black one hanging in his hand??? Huh, HUH? ARE Ya'?

T

The headhunter turned out great. Looks even more dangerous now with the accessory you added. If you are looking fpor a hat, why donĀ“t try a little wood turnery to build something like this:

How do you come along with your piece of oak?

C

Babalu, thanks for visiting, who you calling "ole man?" Well as long as you
put stud with it I guess it's okay. I'll have to tell my wife about that.
Thanks Flat Black and Ben, and thanks for the hat ideas Tok Tok. I'm gonna do
a hat this spring when I can get outside and work some power tools, in fact I
might get started on that today :)
Still working a little bit on the oak manaia Tok Tok. I was gonna leave it
with chisel marks but it looks pretty rough so I am going for a more sanded
and finished look. I plan on putting it in the "exchange" if it looks decent.

S

conga that's it! man you put him over the top with the head and blade.
VERY NICE!

Mad Hatter,

The spy is neat-o! He kinda creeps me out though.....

C

Thanks Seeks and GMan, the Spy appreciates your kind words. What GMan,
he creeps you out? C'mon, croc wrassler, boar chaser, dune bouncer,
all around Tiki Man of Mystery, don't worry about a little headhunter spy!

J

That is just too much. I think you kept this a surprise, I really like the head hunter head hanging from his hand.

Hi guys!
Just trying to keep up with GMan here, some new wood

and a few preliminary cuts, Longbelly

Some really nice stuff going on lately, keep it up!

B

Go Conga Go!

Dang, look at all that room to play in that basement there! :-)

G

Man Conga! Those are some wikkid logs you have there. NICE! And what's the deal with this new carve? He looks like one of Tim Burton's critters? What is the story on this kat?

-G

Hey Babs and GMan, thanks for taking a peek at Conga's latest abberation.
Tim Burton, huh GMan? I can see it...the story behind this guy is pretty
simple. We have seen some really great Ku carvings lately, notably
Tahitiki and Seeksurf, impeccable form, hard to beat.
I have had a Ku in my head for some time (while I was doing birds/hogfish/
manaia over the winter) but decided to do more of an upright position
figure along the lines of the primitive stuff in Meyer's "Oceanic Art"
books. Also looking for a more creepy sinewy figure. Tim Burton? Yea
pretty close!
Not sure where this will lead, might lead to an early spring bonfire :)

J

Sweet start on a different Polynesian direction. Looking forward to seein this one progress.

Far out Conga!

B

WOAH, Conga's Got Wood, Conga's got Tiki, Conga's got Skills and is Showing us How itz done, GO Conga. Excellent stuff coming outta your works shop.
About that Spy guy, Man can't you see he's Freezing to Death? Cover him up or better yet, send him on down here so he can warm up Propewr like and all you know. I Promise I'll send him home when it starts to get too warm hereI'll sign the contract and all, Just you can ignore the fine print it has Nuthin but fine stuff to say!. I'll send you my addy>
Nice work for an OLD Man

S

Nice start on a another outside of the box conga piece.
Love the face expression he looks mean & bad ass-ed.

That basement is to die for! in the winter.
