Aloha Conga!!!
Another Kool carving you got going there. thanks for sharin , Aloha , Mooney

Thanks a lot Johnny, Hank, Ben, Seeks and Mooney. Having fun chizzlin'
at the new guy, but I have to be careful. If he gets too much skinnier
he will become a five foot pendant.
And Ben, don't worry about Spy, I always make him wear a hat when he takes
the garbage out.

S

conga don't corner that thing! he might
take your head off!

B

Darn Right, NOW you're Talking! Excellent stuff Conga.

Hey Conga whats all that white crap on the ground at your house? Is it extra clean sand?

T

You found the best fitting hat for him. No need to carve one.

Hi guys and thanks for taking a look at the Conga Corner.
Well, I am frustrated by the continued presence of snow. I want
to carve outside and I can't...I want to ride my new bike and I can't.
So I continue to chisel away at perhaps the skinniest tiki of all time.
I now think I will put a chunk of lead in his head and call him the
largest tiki pencil ever created.

This guy has posed a few problems for me but as usual I am starting
to feel like he's family and that I shouldn't use him for firewood.

B

Cool looking tiki Conga and Far from firewood I'd say. However, send him to me so I can burn him as I need more firewood for my fireplace. Just tie him on the back of your new bike and head on down, we'll burn him together after we do some more work on him!
Love the Spy Hat too!

S

Hell no you cant burn family.

Well then I'm the second closet to the
thinnest tiki.

I hope that i can someday relax my stringent (stay within the lines)
traditional style and try something more creative like the
stuff you do.

Thanks Ben and Seeks, I guess I'll keep him from the fire for a few more
weeks. The real test will come when I get to smoothing and fine-tuning
the body lines. That will require some cocktails and squinting...we'll
see what happens.
And Seeks...you are generous in your comments. I can't tell you how many
times I have thought of your "Wafflehead"...and some of the recent Mooney
stuff...and wondered where in the heck I was going with this. Believe me,
there were plenny times I wish I had started with a traditional concept,
but it is now my humble mission to create a freakish figure that will fit
right in with the rest of my freaks. Family pics to follow:-)

Stick with it Conga, there's a lot of good that can come out of this guy still, no matter how skinny.

I hear ya on the snow... we just got another 3 today... puts us over 97 inches for the season. It was 50 degrees the last two days and I was able to get out on my new mountain bike, but it seems everytime I go for a ride it snows the next day.

Depressing.

Looks like a lot of rain next week, at least it will get rid of the snow and green things up finally. Like you said, it would be nice to get outside and do some work... I have a few logs that need to be debarked.

For sure, Conga... Go with something freakish if need be. We'll all dig it no matter what. I think he's lookin' great. I hear you northerners about the weather.. It was -1 up here this morning at 6:00a.m. It will warm up soon, Bros~

B

Conga, I still think you should tie the spie on the back seat of your Sicle and c'mon down to Florida. I don't know 'bout you but the spy looks like he Needs to get some sand in his shoes and sum sone in his hair. Come on and we'll fix youse right up. Mebbe you can take a Lono back with you too! Fancy that. Oh, Beans, I guess you'd have ta leave the Spy here, all3 of you can't fit on that thing, Darn, Well I'll promise to take good care of him. Sounds like da plan, how 'bout in June early , OK? OK then dun deel? See 'Ya
Beenzart

Conga, you have some of the most creative carves!!! Can't wait to see how the new one turns out.

Thanks guys.
Lake and Freddie...you got it...spring is here. Put 18 miles on the
new road bike and had time to push a grinder into ole "skin n bones."
And thanks for the invite Ben, make sure I have a nice bed. Appreciate
the kind remarks Tikifreak. I'm not sure I would call my stuff creative
but some of it sure is wacky.

He's probably skinny enough, but I might get him on the treadmill for a
week or so.

H

Very twisted, I love it.

S

Nice conga,I like the left face shot. What is that wood
you use it looks like plaster very smooth and white.

Thanks for stopping by Hiltiki...so you like twisted huh? I think
I will have a few more twists before this one is done.

Seeksurf...thanks to you too! This is another slab of good old Wisconsin
basswood. Carves like buttah! I am having a great time with detail on
the headdress, mostly done with a hook knife.

Yeah, Conga, the detail on that headress looks great. You can tell your lovin' it.. I'm gonna have some basswood trees cut up, off of some property up here this summer. Lookin' to do some 7-12 inch carves. If you need some, lemme know and I can drop it by on my way to Wausau. I think you spoke too soon, though on the spring thing..... We're gettin' pounded with snow as I type.

C

Hey Freddie, I was wrong earlier in the week, but NOW, I think spring is
here! Working diligently to re-open the "Conga Lounge. Sometime when you
are heading south I'll have to thrown a gathering of the local tikiphiles.
Wait, I guess I'm the only one, but we'll throw something anyway.
Here's the weekend skinny on "Skinny."

B

Really Looking Great Conga.
You can have any bed in the house!

Aloha congatiki!
This tiki is looking really cool! I love the headress and the detail your putting into it.Keep it up my friend. I hope more sun and summer warmth comes your way real soon and you should try to come to Bens Carvin Chop in May it would be great to meet you,Aloha for now , your friend Mooney

Talk about atmosphere, this guy has so much that he is creating his own tropical foggy mist. Really nice work on him.

This reminds me of that alien autopsy. I like him. Glad
Spring finally has hit the North woods. Conga is my pal!

S

Holly crap! He is looking great.

C

Many thanks guys. I am starting to have a little fun with this feller.
Did a little torching to take away the "glare" of the white wood,
it helps with "eyeballing" the detail. I'm also throwing in some
"little heads" on the top of the headdress. I think I'm gonna fall
overboard.

T

Wow, this is really new, different, and cool!

Thanks a lot BigT and everyone else for popping in.
Hey, you guys from Florida and California really gotta get up north
and enjoy Wisconsin in the springtime.
Isn't it pretty

Aloha Congatiki!!!
Wow,Look at you go my friend! Looking Great and I'm lovin the detail,Keep it up and stay warm,Aloha Mooney

Far Out! Dig the tiny noggins!

S

Nice work he came to life big time.

Boy, Conga... you guys got hammered up there! I heard it was going to snow, but that sucks.

We got 4 inches of rain between Tuesday and Friday... and snow showers all day Saturday. Luckily nothing stuck.

Fear not, warm weather coming this week... we'll be in the 50's and mid 60's by Wednesday... you should warm up as well and melt off that snow.

Love that guy lurking out of the shadows! The headress is outta control!

Another Conga Northwoods Original!

Many thanks Mooney, Hodad, Seeksurf and Lakesurfer. You guys always
provide plenty of motivation in this crazy bizzness of tiki carving.
Well, Lake, spring is finally here in the Northwoods, and it's time to
welcome yet another finished Conga-Project. Kinda weird, but hey, what's
new!

crazy, creepy but cool - that's our Conga!!

Wow, that came out great. I love the hue of the stain. Nice finish!

Excellent carving Conga,Aloha your friend mooney

Conga that guy is spoooky!! looks so great with that lighting inside. mind boggling patterns/detail.
i don't know if i could stay in a 'paradise/tiki' state of mind with all that white stuff outside. keep it up!

B

How did I Miss that Tabla sitting there? Whats the story with that??

Many many thanks to all for checking out the thin man. Tikifreak,
GMan, Seeksurf, Ben, BK, Harro, Surfintiki, Mooney and TikiPat, your
gracious endorsement of this latest slab of basswood is deeply gratifying.
His finish is a combination of a total torch burn and follow up sanding,
a walnut stain, and a few coats of tung oil.
And Ben, not much of a story with the tabla. It's pretty hard to scan the
Conga and Mrs. Conga abode without spotting a tiki or some form of drum.
This is the most extreme example, tikis and drums everywhere.

Some drums I think I play pretty well, congas, djembe. Now the tablas are
another story completely, Zakir Hussein I AM NOT.

J

The last guy came out looking wikkid. Your lounge is really looking like an old skool tiki bar. Great work. I need to come hear you jam someday.

Hey Johnny, thanks a lot. Sorry for the late response, been sick for 9 days
with the worst cold I have ever had. I have a small project started but haven't
looked at a chisel since last week. Another great thing about Wisconsin,
spring is so cold and sloppy that when it finally gets nice we all act like it's
summer...and get sick as dogs.
Thanks for the comps on the lounge, you are welcome anytime. Just slap that
slit gong on your back and cross the pond. I'll pick you up on the Wisconsin
side.

Hello everyone.
It was a beautiful day for yard work in northern Wisconsin. But it was also
a beautiful day for working on a new carving, call it a "modern" png-inspired
spirit figure. So I skipped the yard work.

Hope ya all had fun today.

B

Not as much fun as You had. Looks like he Only has Eyes for you. I think he's gonna be A Sweet one! Glad you're feeling better.
