Starting to have a little fun with this guy, I can't seem to fit him into
the conventional box

Now we're talking! Him look good with fez. GROG like Kirby' teeth addition, too.
Right now him look like he lost his dentures.

J

He is missing the Organ Grinder.

Classic! He is a man of many hats.

S

Right On! The Grand Poobah Hat!

:)
Happy for a few fun responses...that's the overall intention with this
one. I know that one must be careful with the use of paint to avoid
looking gaudy and crappy. I just decided to let the colors rip after
reviewing a lot of the painted Leroy stuff, and after visiting an exhibit
of colorful Mexican art.
Alright, I know he looks gaudy and crappy, but I smile everytime I
walk past. He sorta reminds me of colorful circus art.
Now Conga is going to go back to being a serious replicator, or mayhaps I
will finally carve that organ grinder!

C

haha yes very funny little guy me like.
what's next? I don't imagine, but can't wait to see and get surprised, that's why i always check this thread :)

...if the artist smiles at his own work...

ROCK ON & CARRY ON!!

Conga- love your latest (I bow to your carvings). A1++++++

C

Clarita...thanks again for checking out my little corner of TC. I am a few weeks
into my next one, but he's starting to look a little strange, and I guess that's
to be expected :) Last night I turned the corner of Firewood and Possibilities,
so I will keep going.

By the way, I always check your thread too. Your latest is wonderful, just like
all the rest.

Tiki G...Mahalo to you as well. Don't bow too low, you'll hurt your back and
then it will be hard to carve :)

Will try to post a little spooky progress report in the next few days, then it's
off to the smokey mountains for a little vacation. Yahoo.

C

So, do you ever let your tikis hang out with Cigar Store Indians?

This one seems like a pretty good guy, and he brought his own rum.

B

Uh OHHHH conga's gettin' Gaudy gaudy Gaudy, Haaa! I Love it,, what else you gonna scare us with. Love the Indian,, Ain't Nuthin' like a liquored up injun so he fits right in with the tikis if he likes Rum and I'm sure he wouldn't turn it down, he would Down it rite down.
cool stuff Drummer, what you drumming up for the next show??

Love your creative brain Conga!

Hey Ben, you think he's gaudy now, wait till to see the Chief with painted
feathers!

And thanks Jungle Trader, I had to do a couple of lounge pics to maintain the
"tiki" element, just so I don't get banished off to one of the back pages.
At least the Indian has a Benzart pout :)

Ever since I picked up chizels I wanted to attempt a cigar store figure,
so I finally got that out of the way.

Now....just getting started on another small "mountain top tiki hut" project...
and more fun and/or wierd projects in the works....gotta think tiki tiki tiki.

S

Man that Indian is the bomb! you been hiding him on us?

T

Love the Indian! Been thinking of doing one myself. That one looks like it was a lot of work. Outstanding job! Love how you staged him with tiki stuff in the background. That means you can post more pics, right? :)

Hello friends, and thanks Seeksurf and BigT. I was holding out on showing
the Chief, since it would be a stretch to call it "tiki carving." Now
I feel secure in showing him off and introducing to the masses...
"The Last Of The Moaihicans."

As you can see, we have a couple of things in the works at the Conga
Lounge, a png influenced figure and another mountain top tiki hut.
Also still have a few finishing touches for the Moaihican. Thanks for
peeping in.

B

these carvings are incredible congatiki! love the two tall intricately carved ones 3 photos down from the top, must have taken forever.. all your work is fab though

S

Wow the paint really pulls the detail out. Im impressed Big Time.
Outstanding carve conga.

A

The cast of characters in your imagination to is phenomenal!!! I leave with a smile every time I visit this thread.

Moaihecians  I was expecting a Moai with a mohawk

C

Great carve, so much detail going on, it shows your amazing skills even more.

Hey...thanks to all of you for giving such a nice, warm welcome to a somewhat non-tiki
Cigar Store Indian. The Chief just fired up the peace pipe and it's heading your way.

Andy--thanks for reviewing my previous carvings--the two big ones really were a lot of work.
Seeks--Whenever I can impress you--I'm happy.
Amate--I'll do my very best to keep you smiling--thanks.
MadDog--great idea with the mohawk--perhaps my next cigar store tiki.
and Clarita--what can I say--you've been a longtime supporter--many thanks.

NEW TIKI STUFF--coming soon!!!

Nice work Conga. I have been researching Cigar store Indians for the last 6 months or so. I have a good friend who asked me to carve one for him. Now I have another pic for my file. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Tikimecula!
I also studied the cigar store figures for a LOOOOONG time before dipping
chisel into wood.
Lemme say this...just based on your weapons...when you finally do carve your
C-S-I it will be the best one that was ever made.
Thanks again.

Hey everyone, happy Memorial Day! Nice stuff being posted over here
lately, so I thought it was time to throw something new into the mix.
Here are a couple of unfinished shots...he sorta reminds me of somebody from
the Addams Family or the Munsters.

Have a nice holiday!

Moaihicans?! Boooooooo!

He turned out great! Now what is this new guy? He looks pretty mean...

S

Nice conga. He looks like Joe Pesci also in my mind.

Weird...
and WONDERFUL!
Lookin good Conga!

C

Hey thanks Big T, Seeks and LLT. It's funny how sometimes a face takes
on a bit of personality that you did not expect. Going to develop a lot more
personality in this one before he's finished, I wanna make him a little meaner :)
I slipped an Indiana Jones hat on him a couple of days ago and he looked like
Jimmy Durante.

Ha-cha-cha-cha!

Hey...what's up around here?
Making progress on this one, gotta get him wrapped up pretty
soon....

I know it's sort of a depature, a Conga carving with teeth :)
Thanks for peeking in.

S

Love how you try lots of diff stuff. I see some Cesar this time also.
Man, I miss old Benz on here, He really livened it up in here. He spends most of his chat time on facebook i think.

B

Conga, Excellent stuff..

Seeks...I think all the "different" things are really the result of
un-diagnosed ADD. I keep trying to focus on conventional "tiki" art but
it always seems to take a twist or turn on me. Thank you...and
thanks for reminding me about ole Benzart. He sure did "spark" things when
he was around here.

Oh look...Benz paid a visit. Where have you been old buddy, don't you know how
much we need you on TC. Nice to see you take a break from "twitter" and thanks
for your kind remarks.

Gonna finish the last fella in a day or so and ship him out west. I hope he
finds a good home.

L

Nice work on this last guy... Lots of personality as always.

J.

Thanks Laojia, always appreciate your stopping by. I ran into some
finishing issues with the last guy, wanted a light finish but the wood
has some inconsistencies. I put him aside for awhile to consider
my options, and started another guy.

Obvious PNG influence, with a "Barney West" body

And a bird on his head

Attracted some attention from the neighbor's pooch...

Should make some carving progress this week...then it's more fun with
paint!!!!
Udderwise...all is well in Wisconsin.

J

Sweet! Conga strikes again. You have a very unique way of interpreting and defining your style. Makes me smile.

K

Conga, your carvings always impress me but that Indian is damn sweet.

Many thanks to two of my favorite carvers!
Happy to make you smile Johnny. Appreciate the compliments.

Thanks Keigs. Took a lot of studying before I dove into the Indian
project. Could probably have studied a little more..but I'm happy with
him :) Love all of your new work!

All is VERY well in Wisconsin. Love it!

S

Yes! looking good thus far. A parrot would be a cool carve and tikish.

C

Thank you Seeks and Surfin...you know I love dem birds.
Did a little work on the fella last night.....

Always love carving our feathered friend, and now I see the theme
of the new "art swap" is birds, guess I gotta get involved in
that.
Won't get anything done this weekend, heading to Chi-town to catch
two nights of the Blasters. It will be tough to be away from
chizzlin'...but a good dose of American Music will make it worthwhile.
Have a great weekend....Hey baby, it's the Fourth of July!

C

Haha very cool pics of Indiana tikijones, and the new one already stole my heart, there is something about the little conga birdies that I just can't resist, thanks for the joy :)

Wonderful stuff Conga! I'm sure you will find the perfect finishing options for this one and the one before.

J.

B

Hey. you're getting pretty fancy for a drummer there!!!
Cool stuff Conga.
