Trader Woody : your photo-painting is from Richie Fahey, a great contemporary artist that paints over his photos with a 40's style.
Check out : http://www.richiefahey.com

There were a great article on him on juxtapoz magazine (photo issue)

Good call, Virani! That's the chap.
I thought the identity of the painter had been lost forever.

That Richie Fahey stuff is pretty cool. I particularly like his James Bond "Moonraker" cover:

http://www.richiefahey.com/design/moonraker.jpg

I just won this auction on ebay for a print of the same Richie Fahey photo that you all were commenting on. This was it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3714265894&category=20143

I also won auctions for 2 other tiki related Fahey prints that I think are very cool:

I had been looking obsessively for prints of his art since seeing the Juxtapoz issue. I finally found this place selling prints of several of his pieces on ebay. You can best see them all by doing a search on Richie Fahey in both the titles and the descriptions since they don't include his name in the titles. I am sure that they will keep relisting the same prints as they are printed to order. You can order through their website, too, but the normal price is $40. The $24.88 initial bid price seems like a great deal. If anyone is curious, I'll post my thoughts of their quality when I receive the prints. I should also mention that the photo used for the Juxtapoz cover is one of the prints they are offering.

Randy Exotica,

I realise that your name means something quite different over there in the States, but from here in the UK, it seems that you are perfectly placed to comment on this topic.

I would love to read your thoughts on the posters when you receive them. I have also been a fan of his art ever since I saw it in Juxtapoze and am considering buying the shot of the girl exiting the pool.

Randy Exotica,

Following your lead, I purchased a poster for myself. I bought the one of the Hula dancer in front of the burning tiki.

Thanks for the tip on where to find these! I'm sure I'll be picking up more.

Mahalo,

Has anyone ever been here (I'm not asking if you went in)? Great photo op.
It's located somewhere on Hollywood Blvd.

No, but it was in an old issue of Tiki News. There used to be a Tiki Massage in Berkeley.

Are the tikis also nekkid?

Along the lines of the Tiki Theater:

I'll be in Tucson in about a week, but I don't think I'll shoot this place again.

Wow!! Fatuhiva that photo rocks!! Are there any more of those for our viewing pleasure. And Sabu, I am so dissapointed I could not see any of your photos. Hope this thread keeps going, hopefully my wife does not catch me, jus kidding. :)

Hi Folks,
Just discovered this thread and if tikibars is still looking for the Playboy with the Witco tikis on the pool wall it's the December 1961 issue. There's plenty of photos of Hef's cool pool and a couple more good tiki/girl shots. But for the ultimate tiki bachelor pad check out "Exotica In Exurbia" in the March 1967 issue of Playboy - now that's what I call home comfort!

Fatuhiva, Thanks for posting.

I'm always the last to find these threads.

Hey, does the tiki in this picture look like chiki tiki's "world's largest tiki mug" to you?

Someone probably answered this already, but that's Richie Fahey.

He's terrific: http://www.richiefahey.com

joefla70--I like that pic @ the bottom of your post. It'd make a cool tattoo (sans da bird, no offense).

Taken from Tiki Farms website: Tiki Goddess Tiki Mug;
Designed by Donella Vitale, this is Hawaiian influenced design with a Hula Girl aesthetic!!

I would love to see more mugs being mass produced from designs by women artists.
http://www.donellavitale.com/illustrations_1.html
And of course there's Tikifish's Skecky and Beachin's work (though not mass produced) are there any other female designed mugs out there?

I am sure there are more than a few people who would love to have the Hanford Lemoore mug Purple Jade designed awhile ago. What's the hold up Tiki Farm? Hint, hint, nudge, nudge...

Hey, this thread "borders on obscene, at least by this forum's standards".
Just kidding.

I know this is already known by many of you, but I just re-discovered this photographer inspired by 50s/60s Tiki Glamour who makes modern day versions. Check out his awesome website:
http://www.winkytiki.com
There's a whole lot of new stuff there suddenly.

[ Edited by: RemyC 2005-07-08 01:04 ]

Its a great site..........the girl who designs it (or did design it is a knock out as well) the first version of the website was all tiki in concept the second was pretty tiki as well.........

Good choice chris. I wonder if there's a pinup calendar available featuring the "winkytikigirls"? If there isn't, there should be.

I saw this pic in the blog The Dirtiest Thing in the Whole Wide World (http://dirtything.blogspot.com/). It's a frame from the 1964 sexploitation flick Dr. Sex.

"No! I gave you every piece of my clothing already, but you can't have my big salad spoon and fork!"

from the same site...

Note quite "tiki," but nice. A vintage postcard I got from eBay recently, one of a series from Tahiti.

And another. We were discussing tropical landscaping plants in another thread. Enjoy this Pothos!

 When the carvers in the Creating Tiki forum recommended a Grinder with Flap Disc sanding wheels, I had an entirely different picture in my head!

 That's cute that they named the tiki Ted.

Seriously, Jab, what magazine did you find this gem in? I'd like to find a copy for myself. Great addition to the thread!
