I have had a postcard of Lani for a long time- what a beaute! Thank you for all your posting and sharing your finds. I am glad to see some nudism & Tiki photos surface, the text of the first story is great!

I'm betting that's the girl in my Tyree oil.

And on page 148 of the book "Tiki Modern" you can find the deeper meaning behind that photo :)

This thread is far too long to remember what has and hasn't been posted, so here goes...

No context, and I haven't the foggiest who took the picture, who they are, or where they came from.

The second photo I'm sure is one of sylvain's Tahiti photos ...check Google or your preferred search engine to learn more. The first photo is very nice thanks and new to the thread...the first twenty or so pages don't have that much material to check against...

From Topper March 1964

I didn't find many 'polynesian pleasure girls' as stated on the cover, only this woman in front of a bamboo hut...

...but it did have another Lewis VanDercar feature!

Wowowow! Finally a shot of part of the wall around his house, you could only catch glimpses of it in that short film. Great find.

wait there is a wall in those pics?

Another vintage photo gleaned from some tumblr account, which strikes me as
pre-Tiki, maybe 30's/40's? judging by the hair stlye. I'd have to confess,
I'm fascinated by this kind of photograph, we've all heard the term "Tiki lifestyle"
and for me this type of picture embodies that sentiment, it's one thing for people
to attend a fancy dress party in a grass skirt but entirely another for someone, who
is probably fairly straight-laced in their normal day to day life, to pose in this manner,
particularly in the earlier part of last century.

I think we could safely assume in her normal day to day life being paid as a model is easier than being a prostitute?

They were stand alone images. Here's another from a different shoot featuring that same Tiki. I don't think anyone's posted this one...but I could be wrong.

Oh, no! Remember Dustycajun's picture of the adult Tiki Theater, on page 12 of this thread?

Well, it's popped up in the news, in a rather unfortunate way. Allow me to nominate 72 year old actor/comedian Fred Willard for the dubious Paul Reubens Award.

(I see now, this story was also posted in the more appropriate Tiki Porno Theater thread.)

"The rum's the thing..."

[ Edited by: Limbo Lizard 2012-07-19 08:52 ]

The triple posting of this points again to the dilemma of Tiki Central: It is just too diverse for that to not happen. It is a social media site, an event site, a collector's site, a sales site, and a cultural research site all in one. Result is: People think of a subject under different headers, like here:
General, Erotic, and Locating.

The advice is: Do not assume any header, simply put the SUBJECT that ties it into Tiki into "Search", and Voila, the thread pops up...yet, as in this case, spelling can mislead you: If correctly spelled "Tiki Theater" like it is on the marquee, it would not come up as easily as the misspelled header of the thread "Tiki Theatre".

http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=26718&forum=2&start=15

I am resigned to the fact that newbies will come here and not take the time to search, or simply will not know the rules, to the fact that the "Search" itself is not perfect, and that the choice of thread is subjective. This should not diminish the importance of the valiant attempts of DustyCajun and others to keep things in line though. When you're new to a site, you are liable to make some mistakes. Don't take corrections personal, just try to do better next time.

I chose the specific Tiki Theater thread because it is the best in terms of photos AND description of the interior. But I am assuming that many folks here regard "Locating Tiki" as a nerd corner for the researchers. Just be reminded that without all that research and cultural context, there would be no Tiki party and drinky drinky today.

I stand proudly as a "Locating Tiki" nerd, because it IS my favorite landing spot. Well said Bigbro. OGR
