entire issue - scans from a defunct magazine site

Star Williams poses with a drum. I don't think she'd be out of place in an exotica girl lineup Also included Wendy Wyatt due to appearance in previous and impending posts....

creativenative that was a nice movie find by the way.

So anyway this item was a bit outside of this archaeologist's price range...
But I'm documenting the Lucky Tiki sighting for future scientific expeditions.

Trivia: The cover model's name is Sharon Church / Sin Lenee. She starred in Russ Meyer's Mondo Topless. I expect she'll grace this thread again due to a South Seas harem themed photo shoot she did (example included).

I agree. You probably will regret it. I hope this isn't you. It would give a whole new meaning to peeled "Potato."

K

what the FUCK !???!!!.... that's not vintage.

here ya go...

potato's post fortunately only invoked a Peter Sellers nudist camp movie scene for me. it could have been far worse.

Ha! It definitely ain't me, nor is it vintage, but it seemed a shame to not throw it in here. It's that guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which, for taking place in Hawaii, is surprisingly lacking in tiki.

I like pickles, oh wait a minute!

N

Terri is really Nani Maka star of Pagan Island.
There is a profile article on her in the current issue of Tiki Magazine & More (Issue 2 Summer 2014)

This thread also has some nice photos from the Space Coast days.

A most remarkable book obtained by yours truly at the Friends Of The Hawaii Public Library sale this summer, "Women Of Polynesia" by T. Barrow, Ph D. , c1967. The 240 page book is a semi-scholarly look at the roles & history of women in polynesia, and there are many historical photographs & drawings. However, between sections of the book are groups of "Polynesian studies" by photographer H. Sieben. I'll let the photographs speak for themselves. It's just a sample of what's in the book.

First, a few lovely historical photographs.

Now, on to highlights of Sieben's "Polynesian studies"

Cover model Rene de Beau was one of the stars of Ed Wood's Orgy of the Dead - maybe the hula dancer from that will make a good post this Halloween.

Actress Monica Strand graces the thread again in a photo studio tiki bar.

There does appear to be a tribal mask on the wall.
Most of this could just as easily go on Glass Float Central and Martini Central.
But I don't haunt those forums....

Another appearance of Venus Studio in Hollywood. [previously in the issue of Frolic above]

This scene is from Hollywood's World of Flesh (1963) available from Something Weird Video. It belongs to the genre of Mondo films - exploitative and mostly staged documentaries.

another Halloween treat...
it may seem surprising that jet age man would choose to use a hula girl to illustrate a witch hunting guide - but my theory is that the witch pagan isn't that far from a voodoo priestess, that has even been seen with tikis herself, which isn't that far removed from the other exotica species of female like the volcano worshiping hula girl - at least in the mind of jet age man.

I can't claim this is accurate as to Illse Koller without going through the movie......but Horrors of Spider Island [German: Ein Toter hing im Netz] is a nice south seas 1960 horror film where a bunch of exotic dancers crash on a south seas island and some poor guy mutates into a were-spider serial killer.

future posts will have more of her as an exotic Tahitian instead of exotic East German.

I think I encountered one today that hasn't been mentioned here. It's a short film from the early 20s called "Hula-Hula Mexican." For the first minute or so the dancing girl is a Hawaiian hula girl, then she changes into a Mexican sombrero for the finish. Quality is grainy, but I got a few screenshots:

The above is from page 25.

There doesn't seem to exist a movie called the Balboa Story - I wonder if the author was meaning a biography of this fellow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasco_N%C3%BA%C3%B1ez_de_Balboa

There doesn't seem to be much record of Karen Dryden...however a tantalizing clue this might have been a real production is the rather specific name of the Director working with this model...(who also seems to have 3 imdb entries that need merging)

From http://horrorfanzine.com/comin-at-ya-the-resurgence-of-3d-movies/
"In 1970, Allan Silliphant and Chris Condon created a 35 mm single-strip 3D format, which printed two images squeezed side-by-side and used an anamorphic lens to widen the pictures through polaroid filters. This process (called Stereovision) was used in a softcore comedy called The Stewardesses, which cost about $100 grand to make, but ended up earning more than $27 million, making it the most profitable 3D movie ever – that is, until Avatar came around."

Some nudists channeling the pre-tiki hula girl motif.
Is the second picture a primitive tiki? Some sort of woodhenge calendar? A sign to aliens?
From a censorship perspective this magazine felt no obligation to airbrush - instead it added some blackness to censor.

Actress / Model Cathy Crowfoot and friends nude with a grass skirt and possible fireplace idol. Cathy Crowfoot can also be seen on pages 30 and 60 of this thread.
Additionally the model in pigtails can be seen on page 7 - and will be the subject of future posts.

This is model Ruth Anderson with photographer Bunny Yeager. I think it is a safe assumption that Yeager did the below Jaguar shoot but it is uncredited in the magazine. Further I was expecting the image of the full length tiki (fourth image) to be from this issue but it was not. The search continues....

More importantly the background art and sculptures is by South Florida Tiki sculpting Warlock Lewis Van Dercar!

Illustrating this article is a photograph of Jane Dolinger by her husband Ken Krippene that frequently contributed articles to magazines of this sort. Without a doubt there are many photos of Jane Dolinger scattered in magazines that had nothing really to do with either of them due to her Pygmalion husband's writing and photography connections.
