Damn. This one hurts. Rob Fertig, husband to Caroline Pupule, active in FOM and owner of the spectacular home tiki bar Moai Ice House in Austin passed away Feb. 26 from cancer. I'd only known him for a year, but he was a great guy and I always looked forward to our conversations. His loss leaves a big hole in the community here.

What no Luke Perry up yet?

He had to die much like Wayne Combs for us to find out how great everybody thought he was.

Legendary science fiction/fantasy author Gene Wolfe has died. I was fortunate enough to reprint a couple of his older stories back in my editor days, and in 2002 I was able to interview him during the World Fantasy Convention in Corpus Christi. He was a fascinating--and obscenely talented--man.

Chewbecca Actor Peter Mayhew From ‘Star Wars’ Dies at 74.

RIP, Peter Mayhew.

He was a really nice guy; met him several times at Comic Con. When we saw him the last time at Celebration in Anaheim, he actually remembered us. I'll miss seeing/talking with him.

I had heard from friends who went to Celebration Chicago that Peter was looking very worn down. This is a sad day. He was such a great guy, organizing charities, and
by all reports always doing what he could to help out with Make-A-Wish wishes and other events.

Godspeed Chewbacca. :(

Doris Day!
No.
Man she was great in Pillow Talk.

Doris Day was great in everything.

I just finished watching Lullaby of Broadway, where she not only sang magnificently but also danced up a storm. Plus there's a great scene where she goes out to dinner with S.Z. Sakall and he orders a double Zombie and sucks it down.

The only female actress I can think of that came close to her was Myrna Loy, all the greats are dying.

Betty Davis never did much for me.

Find myself watching more old stuff than the new crap they put out these days.

We will be left with all of the Housewife trash as our "Celebrity's" who die.
Good riddance.

Who is the next Frank Sinatra or Doris Day, Al Pacino.
Some of these losers make more than the greats did.
Most of them make more than Myrna Loy did and she made over a hundred movies!
So sad.

Comedian and Actor Tim Conway Dead at 85, after long illness
Watching Conway crack-up other cast members on the Carol Burnett Show was often funnier than the skits, themselves.

My wife is a big fan of Doris Day, especially her songs. Yesterday, I told her that Day has passed, at 97, earlier that morning. She was quiet for a minute, then started singing 'Teacher's Pet'. We both started laughing at how delightfully alarming and wrong the lyrics sound, these days!

She was pretty great. One of my favorite female vocalists. Full disclosure, the only film of hers that I've seen is 'It's a Great Feeling' from 1949. Earlier this year we started watching re-runs of the Doris Day Show on Amazon Prime. Some early childhood memories for me were seeing the opening of her show all the time on my grandparents gigantic Quasar color TV. The show is defintely worth watching for some colorful retro fun.

Damn no Ric Ocasek or Eddie Money posting here by the Death Police?

2 days ago - Ric Ocasek -- the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer whose popular new wave band, The Cars, helped define the sound of rock music in the late 1970s and '80s -- died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, according to the NYC medical examiner.

5 days ago - Eddie Money, the prolific singer and songwriter whose songs “Baby Hold On,” “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Shakin'” and “Take Me Home Tonight” soundtracked popular music in the 1980s, died Friday (Sept. 13). He was 70.

They were both born in states other than California, Ha!

Never heard of some of these people listed.

Robert Hunter of the Dead is dead!

Did go to one show long ago, it was weird but fun.

Robert Hunter, the lyricist, poet and mystical seeker who wrote some of the most beloved songs by the Grateful Dead, has died at age 78. Hunter's family announced his death in a statement, writing, "It is with great sadness we confirm our beloved Robert passed away yesterday night. He died peacefully at home in his bed, surrounded by love. His wife Maureen was by his side holding his hand." No cause of death was available at press time.

And rest in peace Kim Shattuck.

This one is so hard. I wasn't a close friend, but spend a bit of time with her over the years due to having close friends in common and am so saddened by this news. Kim rocked, in every interpretation of the word. I hate this.

Kobe Bryant and four other non star type people who don't matter as much.

One of those 'people that don't matter' was his 13 year old kid, so that's pretty harsh.

T

"was his 13 year old kid, so that's pretty harsh."

I thought so too when the news reported it and said four other people and gave no names.
That was why I put it that way.
Only later did they report her name but none of the others.

You know one of the others was most likely one of his daughters friends that was excited to be with them.

It's odd that being good at a game makes your life so much more worthy and sad when you die than four other peoples death.
That was my point.
