Hey, this that Sven cruising down the Strip in his LeSabre?

A few more photos from the Aku Aku at the Stardust.

This one really gives you the scale of the Eli Moai carving with a person in the foreground.

A different aerial view.

Great place.

DC

2 more postcards with the big guys in view

Found these 3 Aku-Aku items not to long ago
Forgot to post them here

Small plate :)

Ahhh...

So YOU'RE the one who bought those! The dealer found them in the bottom of a box-lot at the auction. I've been going to that auction for years and haven't found squat; she goes and scores!

:)

New one today
I haven't seen this oversized post card posted here

That is just great!

This has always been one of my favorite threads.
Digging through a large box of amateur photos and found this B&W shot from 1979.
Not a great angle, only one Moai visible but it still belongs here I guess.

8ft, Nice photo. Rarely seen frontal shot of the Moai under the sign. How about a blow-up.

Here is a different artist rendering than the postcard that was on a brochure.

With the Aku Aku.

DC

Drink menu from the Aku Aku.

And a few nice photos from ebay.

And left too Dusty. He carved 7 total. Big and small.

Another old photo of the Stardust sign and the Aku Aku building.

Saw this posted on the Vegas Craigslist back in 2014
(Not sure why I didn't post here)
As soon as it was up
It was gone
Wonder where they ended up

Ben- think these really from the Aku-Aku?
Did he make em this size?

To bad he had em held in place by putting concrete all around it.....

Worst sound ever, slurp of an empty tiki mug through my straw!!!

Hang10,

Very cool photos, amazing to see those Aku Aku Tikis in the wild! Here is a photo of one of them outside the Aku Aku entrance.

Also shown in the photos posted by Bamboo Ben.

It looks like they had about 1/3 of the Tiki planted in concrete which is a shame.

He made 7 total. ( I think it was a Vegas thing. ie; 7 ) Small to tall!

Here is a story on Eli carving the Tikis for the Aku Aku (among others).

I didn't know that Eli carved the Tikis for the Outrigger in New Orleans.

Curious to see what was happening with the private home in Ft. Worth??? What's the date on that article DC?

I found this plan of the existing layout from 1963. It was included in a 1964 proposal to add an addition to the Stardust.

January 21, 1961. Of course Ren Clark opened the Polynesian Village in Fort Worth in 1960 and had an extensive home Tiki bar.

Thanks for this one DC. I don't think I have it in my " Box of Eli".

Just curious, what were they asking for that moai?

Another photo of the Aku Aku entrance flanked by the two Eli Tikis.

And a few more of the sign and larger Tiki out on the Strip.

That view never gets old!

DC

Another Eli Tiki photo spotted.

Are those glass floats embedded in a bartop/railing? That is such a cool idea.

Nice photo of the Big Boy guarding the Vegas strip.

DC

A couple mote photos of the Aku Aku sign and Eli Tiki on the strip.

DC

Nice photo of the giant Moai next the the new Stardust sign being installed.

DC

That picture of the Aku Aku next to the Stardust is so perfectly mid-century.

Nice DustyC

Another photo of the Moai and the Stardust sign with some people in the foreground providing scale.

DC

some people in the foreground providing scale.<

And Fashion sense!

Thanks for always adding all these pictures. I wish it still looked like that over there.

And check out who was playing in the lounge in the 2nd picture up, facing south!
