Ya have not seen that one before.

Inside view. Very easy to change bulb on this light. (Tikiskip logo ect..inside this tiki bar light)

Your newest is a great piece of art Skip, with the added bonus of light for mood. Also I envy the lucky recipient of those lovely blue and green globes, he must be a very special person.

T

They are CY!
And thank you.

But I do want everybody who buys my lights to be happy and special.

Tikiskip, I love this new light. Inspired design and modelling.

Skipper- another awesome piece.....

Jon

Thanks guys!
Here's the new ones after all that holiday hoopla.
got two fishtrap style lights with fish float lights in them.
This style light can be seen in Svens house.
These baskets were used to trap fish and also as chicken coops to hold
chickens/birds at open air markets.
Saw a lot of these on ebay after the bird flu scare.

And last a basket style light with copper inside to guard against fire.(That is an awesome Bosko tiki behind)
Going to make more of these, next one will be a hanging speaker as well.

TIKISKIP lights worldwide, "over 200 made" next one to you.

Winter sucks!
Ohio sucks!

[ Edited by: tikiskip 2015-03-12 10:36 ]

I don't know how you guys do it. I got outta the midwest as soon as I could and never looked back. People think I am strange to never want to see snow again, but snow, ice and cold I can live without for the rest of my life.

I hope it warms up for you guys soon. Drink some overproof rum to stay warm!

T

Did get some sun today and it hit like 45!!
Ya get half a life here in Ohio.

It's time to get back on the hot tub and start making lights.
Here's one I started over a year ago, when I die there will be half done
lights and light parts everywhere.

I call it Brian.

Very cool Skip!

That's freekin awesome

Now that is one very cool light! It satifies my tiki and halloween love all in one fixture.

Great job!

  • Dale
K

So cool!!

S

Not a big fan of shrunken heads but that is great use of one.

T

I hear ya Swizz.

But I have no choice as I was the son of a Headhunter.

My father Jack Holt along with John W Galbreath and a few others were the founders of the
Headhunters club in Ohio that would travel the globe in search of big game.
At the end of the year there would be a big dinner with all of the exotic animals
that were bagged over the year.
This dinner was held at Darby Dan Farms and the Galbreath chefs would make the food
for the over one hundred people that would attend.
These dinners were amazing! they even had a member who work for National Geographic that would
give a slide show.
At the farms they had many exotic trophies a real shrunken head and stuff from all over
the world.

Mr Galbreath once saw a new gun my dad had and said "hey Jack let me check that out"
It was a Weatherby and a very nice gun, well Mr Galbreath said "WOW wish I could afford one of those"
The joke was Galbreath built skyscrapers in the United States and abroad and owned the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Once my dad went hunting with "Boots" Randolph think "Yakety Sax" (Benny Hill's signature tune)
Well they were going to one state and my dad calls my mom and says "Ida tell this bartender how to make my drink" she said "where are you?" they were in a different state altogether having a drink, I think Boots had a plane.

This is where my love I guess you could say came for odd exotic things.
Those days are gone, and men like that are gone.

Awesome lamp! Shrunken head have to be displayed not just hung from a rope. What better way to display than in a lamp.

T

Thanks Pops!

WTF?????

T

Sorry...

[ Edited by: tikiskip 2014-05-29 07:38 ]

K

Hat!

Some sort of Tiki Maypole?

Tiki Tesla? Have you figured out a way to harness the power of tiki?

T

Fer sure it's a hat, but not just any hat as this was made with bamboo that I grew.
This hat has been nine or so years in the making, have always wondered if I could grow
my own and then make lights with it, and would it bend easy.
The answer is yes, yes and kind of.
Light to come soon....

Fantastic Skip, this is a great page, chock full of cool lighting and history!

H

Skip your work is amazing. There is always something new and creative. Love all the wrapping. Looking forward to seeing the final project.

T

Thank you Cy and hiltiki.
Here is the small stand of bamboo that I made this hat from.
This light at the last hour gave me trouble, the bulb was too close to the bottom
of the light so a few small tricks were needed to fix this problem.
I love the basket light for tiki bars and you don't see many in home bars these days.
Going to put this one on eBay some day soon...

TIKISKIP: Basket, Fish Float and resin TIKI lights for your bar!!

T

One side note the basket is lined with varnished cambric, this cloth is hard to work
with but gives a nice glow.
This is why I added the rattan ribs on the side as to keep the cloth in place.
Plus this material will not rot/tear like paper can.
But then this is part of the reason I shellac my lights for these lights are mostly paper and rattan or bamboo and all of those things rot or even mold.
I used to use this stuff during my days on the High Voltage crew at OSU.

https://www.google.com/patents/US2212400
Electrically insulating varnished cambric...
This material is permanently -flexible, is highly resistant to oil, moisture and aging and has a high dielectric strength and a high tear strength. v

T

This is what I mean when I say cluster of lights or floats.
The mid one is the 15 inch long by 5 inch wide one you asked about...

T

Not big news here, But now is the time for all you tiki light makers to stock up on
light bulbs for your lights.
Harder to get these after Christmas.
Everybody's a light maker these days right?

AND dear Santa here is the bomb I asked for.

PS I think it's a drop tank but it will do...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

[ Edited by: tikiskip 2014-12-02 06:29 ]

T

Wrong, everyone might think they're light makers, but in reality you and Woody/Kahaka are the only real light makers. I've seen a lot of other home made tiki lamps, but nothing that comes close to what the two of you are doing or have done.

That drop tank is cool looking, and nice collection of vintage Christmas lights!

Jamie

Thank you Jamie.
But since you have sold a light or two I think this may make you a pro by definition.

You left out bongofury he is top on my list, there are many other light makers of
note that should get some praise as well.

Kinda burned out of the whole thing at this time.

The vintage Christmas lights are at an antique show here in town and not mine, but I do buy light bulbs there.

Skip, any plans yet for the drop tank? Keep up the good work.

T

Well Trav at $850.00 it was out of my range, how much was that depth charge
you posted some time ago?
We need a bomb thread in beyond tiki.

The drop tank would make a cool lamp with a shade on top.

Have always loved bombs.
Bombs are tiki I think.

Got some lights in the works but needs to warm up so I can finish em.

Hey Skip. Ouch!!! $850 is a big chunk of change for a drop tank. The depth charge was $350 and that was to rich for my blood at the moment. I gave $250 for the Davy Crockett nuke but that was a wise investment. I feel your pain with the weather, we just came through a blizzard up here in Kzoo. Have a good weekend.

T

So you take in cash and can get it for around 300 or less.
That is one cool side table!!
You keep it for years and years then sell it for the same price or more.
I say get it.

We vote you as the author of the Bomb thread.

Man winter sucks, as I get older it really blows.
AND you got even more winter than we do as we have NO roof rake.
YES people need to rake snow off of the roof so it does not crush them!

I want to be crushed by sunshine.

Stay warm Trav.

Very nice!

I enjoyed reading this whole page. You are a nice group of men. Wendy

T

Thank you ETL.

And Wendy you are too kind.
Thank you.

Tikiskip, you are amazing!! I'm serious! I have been building my tiki bar and I usually get lost in that thread on this site but thankfully I discovered this thread and found your wonderful lamps. I'm a lamp junkie and a creative do it yourselfer too and it is my next phase of work on my bar and here I find you. Thanks so much for showing some of your secrets, you will be an amazing resource for ideas for my lamps. I will definitely be looking for your next wave of lamps on Ebay too :) Hoping you will keep showing us your methods, Aloha!!

Thank you Aloha Daddy.
And good luck on your tiki bar build.
There are many threads with ideas to help you.

Let me know if I can help ya in any way.
