Brilliant. Nice design. Echoing Mike's comment: great photo. I like the white you added to the skulls as well.

M

That is a beautify designed and executed Tiki. I love the flow and the slant on this design. Excellent!

Thanks for looking in and commenting, guys!
Here's two more pics:

Surprise! It's only half a tiki. Flat back for hanging on the wall.

T

I was surprised! whoa! Superb!

Bill, I wasn't sure when I saw the pics last night but now I'm pretty sure it's the "negative space" that draws me to this tiki - the amount that you carved away. Very bold.

L

Started like that, 2011 will be a good year!

The neck is really not thick, not risk it breaks?

J.

4

Yes, the neck is the weak point, but I think it's stronger than it looks in the photos. If dropped, it would break. Handled with a little care, it'll be fine. I also put a good amount of Minwax Wood Hardener on it.

4

One more pic.

T

he is very cool, damm cool! he looks great, I love it! tikibad scott

So does the wood hardener affect the stain at all?

4

On this one no, but on others, yes. It sort of seals the wood surface (in addition to soaking in) and that affects the stain. Stain needs to penetrate some.

Yeah!!!! I like that one a lot!

That looks so elegant! It is really nice work. You must be proud ( I would)

G

This one is awesome. You never cease to amaze.

W

Did that guy ever stand up those monsters ?
If so how ?
& some pics please.

4

Will, if you mean those 3 ten footers, I haven't heard from him since them. I left them standing, but just in temporary spots. He was going to "install" them, but I'm thinking it might not be until late spring.

S

Sweetness!! Love the size of those eyes. Looks really cool.

4

Well then, how about these eyes?

It's closeup of my current work in progress.

4

Here's the final finish.

C

Don't know how I missed that one from last month, very cool carving!
Like the new one too.
Your carvings have a nice classic vibe without being an actual
copy...I like 'em.

4

Thanks Conga, I appreciate that!

Thanks Ben and laojia!

I finished this pair over the past weekend, a commission for Clysdalle.
Larger versions of a previous tiki.

P

WOW Bill!!

Those would be excellent anywhere, but what came to my mind right away was an entrance with a carved door between them...Killer stuff as always...

Paul

Triplets!!! :D

Very nice Bill!

Beauty!
Nice Pair!

P

H

I imagine it would. I've only painted over it. Perhaps if you only applied it to the back, leaving the top surface uncoated, then you could still apply stain in the normal way.

4

Thanks guys!
Paul, they were designed to fit in a specific space. They have two tall and narrow wall sections where the tikis will be hung. Hopefully, they will post a photo when that happens!
Big T, yeah, I did just that, really soaked it in on the backside, and less on the front, where it got a black stain, so it wasn't really noticable at all.

M

Nice nice Tikis sir! I'm loving these finishes you are putting out! They look so primitive and old, yet, pristine.

Well done.

Mc
