I had always thought that their might be a pretty decent tourist market for traditionally inspired tikis on the islands. I'm assuming you've been to Havaiki in Hanalei?

Love that shop! We print their T-shirts at work, too.

K

Holy smokes. So awesome!!!

thanks for posting the close ups, and the different views. It shows off the way the whole tiki has continuity back to front. I agree with Aloha, the checking just adds to the vintage look to this incredible carve. Killer stuff!!

M

Whoa! These designs are gorgeous works sir! Keep em coming!

Pure eye candy for the Tiki soul.

Great comeback, very sharp one, congrats.

@#$% damn thats niiiiiiiiiiiice......perfection

S

Like i said that is one tight looking carve. You are kicking ass.

Yah, that's a COOL style ya got going there, big and bold! Nice.

Great stuff Bill, what kind of wood are using?

4

That last one is carved from Banyan. I'd like to find more, it carves nice.

Well, the Banyan is a member of the Ficus family, so you may find it easier to find (at least similar) wood by looking around for Ficus or Fig. Just a suggestion.

Bear

I've carved some Ficus/Banyan. It was nice to carve, however, I had one piece that had a big dead spot in the middle, that had been grown over. You would have never known by the outside of the log. Grows fast with big logs, super moist, and can have a cool grain.

Here's a nice photo of my newest tiki, but for some reason, pics I upload to TC are coming out sideways. They're fine elsewhere, and I even tried to pre-rotate it 90 degrees before uploading...?!
ANyway, this tiki is 3 feet tall, and carved from Kukui Nut tree.
Background is Lawai, Kauai.

Another nice step in the evolution of detail.

Not often I use this word, but carving is Awesome!

Avocado? Very nice Bill! Looks like you're fitting right in over there in Hawai'i. We'll miss you in the carver's villiage at Oasis

Your stuff has really been looking superb since your move. I'm a fan of everything Marquesan.

Thanks amate. I'm a fan of all Marqs, too. I've never seen one I didn't like!

Wow
Amazing

I really appreciate all the kind comments!
So I did a little more to the eyes on this one. A friend and neighbor works with shell to create pendants, and I had him cut me a pair of eyes from some Tahitian black mother-of-pearl. I then inlaid them and added a little detail to get this. Now it's really done!

and a front view of the whole tiki

Holy Mackeral!

FABULOUS!!!

P

I said it before & I'll say it again....

the eye inlays are killer.

W

Out of this world stunning! Thank you for sharing your talent, I couldn't carve a toothpick!

I just finished this one today, it's a wedding present for my daughter!

It's about 4 feet tall, and carved from Coconut palm.

The edge of the jungle behind my house.
