Continuing with the mini-stomp through Sippin' Safari, the cocktails thus far this evening have been:

• Nui Nui

• Pearl Diver's Punch (Probably a Beachcomber's Coffee Grog in the near future to use up the Grog Batter)

• Donga Punch with St. James Royal Ambre

On the subject of Rhum St. James. . . is there any truth to the rumor that their products will soon not be coming to the States?? I slightly prefer Clement VSOP in most cocktails but I love the Royal Ambre in a Donga. And now that I am finding it for less than $20 it's something I always try to have on the shelf. Occasionally I will shell out for St. James Extra Old, and very occasionally for the Hors D'age, but I would certainly miss them if I couldn't get them.

dunno if the rumor's true, but st James is great in a Papa Doble...

Philadelphia Fish House Punch, just like the Continental Army per the orders of General Washington.!!

soon to be followed by Sam Adams boston lager...

SA Blueberry Hill Lager, richie cunningham would be thrilled.

watermelon (with seeds!) slicing to commence soon...

Caipirinha made with cachaça my niece brought me from Brazil.

Cannibal's Kiss

lime juice
lemon juice
pineapple gomme syrup (or juice)
Vanilla Almond syrup
Kahlua
Don Q Anejo Gold
El Dorado 5 Year
pimento dram
crushed ice
Angostura bitters
fresh mint

Im unlikely to make either again - not 'Wow!'s

  1. Dark & Stormy (with Appleton 12)

A rum substitution to see if I liked it (& use up the can of ginger beer), the rum got a bit lost in my normal ratio - I prefer the cheap dark rums, Goslings et al!

I actually like that ginger beer Bastard quite a bit... I think it's a light & easy summertime cocktail. But I use fresh lime & sugar syrup instead of Rose's..

the ginger beer version is the original.

i've no idea what the tiki bars did to it.

I really enjoy ginger beer on its own... A mocktail or can of pop can really hit the spot :)

My favourite mocktail is LLB (lemon lime & bitters). Fill glass with muchos ice, squeeze half a lime juice, top with lemonade, add several dashes of bitters.

You can use squash, tonic, soda, cartoned fruit juice - as long as its long, cold, has citrus & bitters, its a winner :) if you need booze a bit of Wray & Nephews works great IMO :)

Who knows? Sippin Safari has a coke version, Trader Vics has a 'mai tai with an extra shot' version.

I think the attitude was/is 'That Zombie / Mai Tai / etc is selling well at their bar, lets make a version to compete!'

tequila sunrise.

no idea why, was just craving one.

Three-Dots-And-A-Dash . . . something about this cocktail, definitely in my top 5 . . .

Mai Tai
Navy Grog
Zombie
Rum Barrel

in no particular order . . .

*EDIT: Q&A, I'm using De Paz and El Dorado 5 Year
**EDIT: I'm really becoming a big fan of honey mix . . .

Having the "Kahuna" . . . honored and delicious all at the same time :)

Orgeat Punch with El Dorado 21 instead of brandy . . .

Had a great time meeting some of the Florida East Coast Tiki Folks last night at an event, heard some killer surf music and enjoyed a few nice drinks mixed up for that event. The best drink of the night was the Witch Doctor, an old Jasper LaFranc Bay Roc Hotel cocktail that will be among those featured in Beachbum Berry's upcoming Caribbean cocktail book. Front and center in the drink is a heavy dose of Jasper's Mix with lime juice, sugar, Ango and grated nutmeg. Delicious!

Here's the recipe as related by the Bum at his Hukilau seminar:

Jasper laFranc's Witch Doctor
1.5 oz jaspers mix
1.5 oz gold rum
0.5 oz cherry Heering or cherry brandy
0.5 oz triple sec
Mix with cubed ice
Garnish with pineapple and cherry

Came home and spun up a couple 1934 Zombies to wind down with. I made that drink for several years without LH151 because I couldn't get it, and it was a servicable drink but not a favorite. With the Lemon Hart it just comes together so perfectly. The last year since LH151 has been back in Florida this drink has been in much more heavy rotation.

Kir Royale. Airmail. French 75.

Gotta use up that bottle of bubbly before it goes flat! Been there, drank that.

Black Velvets usually also make it into the use-up-the-prosecco rotation if I happen to have a bottle of Guinness on hand.

Donga Punch :)

Sticking to the required martinique rum style, I used Saint James Royal Amber.

Im not a fan of the 'earthy' after taste of the rhum - in this drink its still there but the drink is surprisingly good anyway!

MGM pool, family in town
Piña colada slushie thang, all good, 2oz Lemon Hart added
:)

Worst sound ever, slurp of an empty tiki mug through my straw!!!

Suffering Bastard, Cairo-style...

an icy cold vodka martini. shaken, not stirred.

Lemon Hart Slushie WTF!
Lemon Juice Potato Thingie WTF!

Something strange happening here?

It's hot and humid outside, how about a refreshing Limoncello Spritzer? 1 part Setlzer Water, 1 part Lemon-lime Soda, 1 part Limoncello, garnish with lemon wheel, blueberries, and mint.

cool- throw in some Italian amaro, and slices of strawberry and cucumber and you've pretty much got a Pimm's Cup...

The 3C ~ Chocolate, Cacahuates, y Café. Not tiki by any means and probably not for everyone but I did some experimentation tonight. I noticed a tread in candy flavored coffee creamers (Almond Joy, Almond Roca, Heath, etc) and wondered why there isn't a Reeses' flavored coffee creamer. Peanut butter, chocolate, and coffee sounds like a winner to me!

So I took 16 ounces of chocolate (mocha) creamer, added 3 heaping tablespoons of peanut butter and blended together well. I added some to iced coffee and threw a shot of Kahlua for good measure. I thought it was pretty good but then again I'm a sucker for Reeses' :D I'll take it to work tomorrow (without the Kahlua) and see what other people think

A Mai Tai, except I left out the orgeat syrup, this time.
Oh, yeah, and I subbed tequila for the rum. But other than that, it's a Mai Tai.

dropped a shot of ED3 and a couple splashes of grapefruit juice into a CCB Jai Alai IPA. havent come up with a name for it yet...

A Sazerac - I had a bad one in a bar at the weekend (orange & barrel aged bitters used, when I could see Peychauds on the bar!?!).

Its awesome when its a good one :)

Just drank a captain myorgan with Marina at the wreck bar. Good times.

my first taste (of Appleton Estate 21-year-old.!

a dry Mai-Tai, both oz of rum = Appleton Estate 21 y.o.

did I mention that my liquor store had the rum on clearance for $60 a bottle?

Wow $60 eh? I guess at that price it's a bit more reasonable to make a cocktail out of the 21-year!

Fogg Cutter for myself, Pina-Macadamia Colada for the Mrs.

plus, i made it dry to feature the rum (just a teaspoon of lime, 2 teaspoons each of curacao and orgeat).

Wife saw this tip on TV

Cut your lime in half
Then microwave it for 15 seconds
Then squeeze it
You get more juice

Out of limes
Let me know if it works

Jon

hang10tiki-

Works like a charm

Thanks for the tip!
