Island-style mai-tai, with Saint James Ambre, and LH151. this is one float imma mix into the drink...

I live in Florida fulltime, but this drink makes me feel like i'm on a vacation....

The different combos of jamaican / martinque / demerara are producing pleasingly different drinks - this one if definitely tasty :)

Hey Jon- There’s a “Duke’s” bout three minutes from the airport (Lihue).
Upstairs there is their dining room and terrace (oustanding view in the daytime although not as spectacular as Waikiki/Diamondhead). Downstairs is their “Barefoot Bar”if your’e short on time.

(Don't buy yellowtail wine. They sued my local brewery so they can't call their beer yellowtail even though their brewery is Ballast Point and their beers are named after fish.)

we have a Ballast Point neighborhood in Tampa too. wonder which is older.

Mai Tai for my mermaid. ED 5, Plantation 5, Clement Creole Shrubb, Orgeat, demerera SS, fresh lime and spanked mint. Float a splash of LH151.

Chief Lapu Lapus for my wife (Appleton VX & Cruzan Aged-Clear, 1/2 oz LH 151 added) and Aku-Aku Zombies for me (Appleton VX, Cruzan Aged, & LH 151).

All and all a nice Saturday....

First I had a Jet Pilot. I don't really get it. This used to be one of my favorite drinks when I first got into tiki. But now, I honestly wish I had made something else. It was ok, but could've been much better.

Now I'm having a Montego Bay and it's so much better. It's simple, but really refreshing. Sour at the beginning, but a really balanced aftertaste.

Ballast Point is a tiny peninsula that juts out from point Loma into the entrance to San Diego bay. The Early spanish skippers use to Load stones onto their ships to serve as ballast for the return trip home. Was a whaling station before the Pt. Loma lighthouse was built there. No, I was not around then. I just learned about the “Point” this afternoon while visiting the former Naval Training Station (now called Liberty Station) and really quite worth a visit.

For repeal day I am drinking hurricanes. It seemed appropriate as the drink was created as a result of repeal.

Prohibition, Repeal, and Hurricanes in a nutshell: After Repeal American whiskey was almost non-existant as it had 't been legally produced in 13 years and new production was by definition very slow to ramp up. Caribbean rum was cheap and plentiful as it had never ceased production and spirits distributors were basically demanding that for every case of the rare whiskey a bar bought they also had to buy as much as 10-12 cases of rum. Pat O'Brien's solution for what to do with all that rum was the Hurricane. Jeff Berry essentially extends this to all Tiki drinks. After 200 years of neglect America learned to drink rum again (and bartenders learned how to mix with it) in the 1930s and 1940s because it was cheap and widely available. If there is one, this is Prohibition's silver lining.
