where are Hang10tiki's posts?? is he awol?

There are no pretty pictures on this page yet so I'll post last night's yummy 151 Swizzle (Hayward Tribute v.2). I need to get some Pernod in my bar to try the ancestor recipe.

Nice, relaxing evening at home with Arthur and a barrel 'o rum. I used Kohala Bay and Flor De Cana 4 year silver and i subbed pineapple for grapefruit. A tad sweet but maybe it'll mellow as some of the ice melts.

EDIT: Drink was delicious but maybe should have added a dash or two more of bitters or a some more club soda to make it perfecto. I guess I'll have to try again...

H

Gone the Beachcomber Grog Log
I had this at Tonga Hut (Valley)

1 oz fresh lime juice
1/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz passion fruit syrup
1/4 oz Maraschino liquor
1/4 oz sugar syrup
1oz Demerara rum
1/4 oz 151 Demerara rum

Shake everything with ice-except 151, strain into a cocktail glass, float 151 on top.
Excellent drink

Happy Mai Tai Day!

ETA: I will NEVER figure out how to orient images correctly from my phone!

A mai tai for my wife, a rum “mule” and a Pacifico for me at Billy’s at the Beach (Newport Beach, Calif.

on my second half-L of cold draft HofBrau Oktoberfest.

I'ma grill the smoked bratwurst and hungarian paprika-wurst next, and poach the knackwurst...

T

Honey, I think the Porpoise is poaching his knackwurst again! :P

Aloha Porpoise-
I'm living through all the drinks you guys post
Keep posting them........please :)

This new diet sucks
But set a goal
Want to loose 43 lbs
Down 15 so far

Might make one of your famous Dry-Tai's soon
:)

Cheers to you all

Jon, the best to you little bruddah!

Aloha Mike. FYI, The Mai-Kai will sub grapefruit for pineapple upon request. It's indeed sweeter, but extra bitters does indeed help.

Bonus tip: I haven't updated my blog yet, but it's pretty clear from all my research that the Barrel is pulse blended with crushed ice, not shaken with cubed ice as the Bum stated in Taboo Table. It's a subtle difference, but it can make for a richer and frothier drink (especially if blended in a spindle mixer).

Okole maluna!

Interesting. Will try that tonight. Making a large-ish batch for a few dinner guests. Some painkillers as well so the blender will already be out.

I've found that if I do a small crop to the image, it will orient correctly when posted here from my iphone.

David- thanks

S&R- you can take a screen shot photo
Of the picture to save the correct view to post

Just got the iPhone 6 and can't upload any photos
You have to use google chrome to upload
Silly

Fixed it
I didn't want you to spill your drink
:)

Thanks for righting my ship hang10tiki!

Had a Pyrat Punch- 1rst time ever. It was okay. 2nd drink was a rum Babalu. I was out of Kirk and Sweeney so I used Pyrat. Had two Babalu’s, one with Cock and Bull ginger beer and the other with Barrett’s. Imho, the Barrett’s is superior. I’m drinking a painkiller right now.
Cheers

Sunny&Rummy - the sideways iPhone photo thing is annoying! I have found that editing a photo prior to posting (eg turning it, saving it, then turning it again, saving it) or using Instagram inexplicably (for me) works.

Hang10tiki - good luck on the diet - tiki & healthy, never the twain shall meet! Hope to have you back in the drinking fold soon :)

Nui 'umi 'umi - good drinks recently, Mai Kai rum barrel are a current fave in our house :)

It's rare when you find a drink that you have to have again & again in a row, I think I just found one:

Martin Cates Undead Reckoning is sooo good! :)

H

Margarita with AsomBroso silver and Cointreau, fresh lime juice.

Coffee :(

AdOrAdam- thanks :)

Rum barrel, Quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Cheers

I've been making a few drinks I've been meaning to getting round to making recently - last night I made the Port Au Prince from Sippin Safari - wierd drink!

I would describe it as slightly fruity mixed with an almost mustard seed like spicy aftertaste - bizarre!

None of the ingredients were off before you ask (I checked). Anyone else made it?

Tonight I've got piccys:

Missionary's Downfall for 4 (trying out a glass Scorpion bowl I picked up recently):

A true blended drink doesn't work as well in a sharer IMO but it was fun to try out.

Continuing the 'drinks I've been meaning to make for a while', the Atomic Grogs Mai Kai Jet Pilot tribute receipe:

This is a drink I'll make again! I'll have to try out a few Kohala Bay & Fassionola substitutes (I used S&C / El Dorado 12 & regular grenadine).

To finish off, a few nips from a mini of Johnny Walker Red:

Cheers all! :)

H

Sapphire Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives.

Saturn (double) with my homemade falernum.

A

Couple of sippers:

Bacardi 8

El Dorado 15

:)

Great photos everyone
Down 17 lbs
Time for a drink
3 dots and a dash
370 calories (my best estimation)
:)

Had a little extra
So we put it in our new Gecko mug that came today
Musubi Bob

Four of us (card night) drinking Rum barrels and the easy to make Rum Babalu’s.
Cheers

Browsing the bottle shop with my wife after an afternoon hopping around a couple good beer bars we were very excited to finally find Old Sint Marteen Guavaberry rhum liquour on a local shelf. It makes a delicious blended colada style drink with pineapple juice and Coco Lopez and we enjoyed several rounds last night.

Like a pina colada, it is in no way what you would call a balanced drink. But as a sweet dessert drink this one is a winner.

Pretzels und Paulaner...

Deutscher Oktoberfest ends today- drink up those Marzen lagers my friends!

but American Octoberfest has just begun...

K

Hung out with a good friend at Trader Sam's this afternoon for a navy grog, coconaut, navy grog, and island wolfhound.

Not “Tiki”, but vintage. 1 1/2 Aviation Cocktails. Kicked my butt.
Cheers

Bermuda rum swizzle...

Mojitos at the Anaheim McCormick and Schmicks. I like the crafted cocktails there.
Cheers

I looked at the ingredients I have... couldn't decide what to have so settled on a snifter!

Roll on the weekend, I'll get my citrus fix then

Trader Vic Mai Tai with Kohala Bay and Smith & Cross. Added a float of LH151 after taking the pic. A lot of powerful flavors fighting for attention here. Definitely not as balanced as a lot of the other rum combinations I've tried but sure is potent.

coming up later tonight: Viking fogcutter, in honor of Leif Erikson Day!

Hinga dinga durgen!

Azorian sodie-pop...

[ Edited by: Zinctiki 2014-10-12 02:13 ]

even though my friendly neighborhood Gators lost to the bayou bengal tigers, ima keep the cajun weekend theme- so it was Abita Oktoberfests earlier; followed by a Cocktail a la Louisiane; next up a good ole Sazerac, then there shall be Hurricanes...

kids eating they roast beef po boys; the red beans and rice will be ready soon as the ham hocks fall of the bone...

Experimenting with fassionola. Here's a Special Reserve Daiquiri. Will make a proper ice mold next time.

Let me play catch up....

Thursday we went to the Turf Club and had these Sneaky Tikis. They are kinda fufu, mostly taste like Malibu, but we take what we can get for tiki drinks here in SD.

Friday I made these. I don't remember what they were but I remember them being amazing!

Saturday was a wedding so I drank free Scuplin, and took pulls off of Fireball and Captain Morgan. Should have passed on the bottle sharing, I got sick for the next couple days...

Sunday morning I had a Fixall. 32 oz Bloody Mary with a burger garnish from Sessions. Thought it would be funny to not eat the garnish, so I didn't touch it, but ordered a full breakfast. It could only be better with a bacon straw. Next time I want to poke a straw through my burger.

Couple days off for recovery. Don't think I have Ebola so that's a plus!

was it a full irish breakfast, a full english breakfast, a full scottish breakfast, or a full welsh breakfast??

It was a full "hipster" breakfast. I think it was called the breakfast grilled cheese. Had eggs and bacon on it and some rosemary potato things too.

Finally bought some Pernod and just made my first Jet Pilot (Hayward version 3.5). Oh yeah, game changer here. It takes a while to put this one together but I see many more of these happening in my future. Just need to make a big batch of honey mix so I don't have to keep making tiny amounts for each drink like I've been doing a lot of lately. Would white and gold Cruzan make a difference over Flor de Cana or is this adequate?

[ Edited by: mikehooker 2014-10-16 11:05 ]

Mahalo Mike! I think you've got the right ingredients there. Cruzan might not make a difference. It's possible The Mai-Kai uses their well silver and gold rums, but rest of the drink is so good it doesn't matter.

Yes, it's good to have some honey mix prepped at all times. I just buy one of those 12-ounce plastic bottles, empty 4 ounces and replace with water. Shake well and you'll have 12 ounces of rich honey mix at the ready.

Okola maluna!

K

Aside from splitting 2 bottles of wine over a fancy steak dinner, threw down a jet pilot and a vieux carre.

A

@Kkocka - sounds good!

Quiet night in our household, splitting the juice of one lime & one orange:

DTB's Three Dots & a Dash Vs Mai Kai's SOS

The SOS is worth trying!

Followed by some Bushmills:

1rst an Aviation Cocktail followed by a Rum Babalu. A Snakebite, Two Bum Barrels (yummy) and I’m surprised that I’m able to post this. The Sharkbite Bar was fun tonight!
Cheers

Catching up again...

Friday night we went to Bali Hai. This is a Zombie.

This is a Navy Grog. Also had a Mai Tai and a Goof that are not pictured.

Saturday night after Pacific Shores we made a round of Saturns.

Sunday was pumpkin carving day, but not for me. I had to do yardwork on my only day off. Starting to get into the spirit with this pumpkin beer.

Closed out Sunday evening with a Corpse Revivor #2.

Cheers!

Jet Pilot. Much better than this football game.
