Did mine pretty much exact except with Kohala Bay instead of Coruba to give it an extra kick. Just didn't work for me.

Forgot about this one. I've only made it once before and thought it was great. I need to restock fassionola and give it another go.

Bali Bali from the Bali Ha’i New Orleans

Makes 1 drink

1 ounce fresh lime juice

1 ounce fresh orange juice

1 ounce pineapple juice

1/2 ounce simple syrup

1 ounce light rum

1 ounce gin (94-proof preferred)

1 ounce brandy

1/2 ounce falernum

1/2 ounce passionola (passion fruit syrup)

1 ounce dark rum

Combine all ingredients and serve in a tall glass.

Ronnie at Trader Sam’s made an excellent Bali Bali but I don’t think that it had gin.

Heaven is a place (from Lost lake tiki, Paul McGee)
2 oz Gin
1 oz lime juice
1/2 oz dry Curacao
1/2 oz Velvet Falernum
1/2 oz honey
1/4 oz Elizabeth Allspice Dram
3 dashes Angustura bitters

Spotted some white grapefruits at the grocery store, so I whipped myself up a...uh...well its not quite a Black Magic but its not a Dark Magic either. It's good though.

(From Beachbum Berry’s Taboo Table)

  • 2 ounces white Puerto Rican

  • 2 ounces dark Jamaican rum

  • 2 ounces fresh lime juice

  • 2 ounces orange juice
    
* 2 ounces white grapefruit juice

  • 1 teaspoon honey mix
 (equal parts honey, water
  • Splash of club soda

  • 6 dashes Angostura bitters
    Shake with plenty of ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Pour into a ceramic rum barrel or large snifter.
    Lots of ingredients but easy to make. I usually double the recipe- it’s enough to fill 4 dbl old fashioned glasses crammed with crushed ice.
    I also use Meyers Platnium and dark rums.

At the Ralph's in Westwood. They also had "ugli fruit" which seems to be in that family but I didn't want to risk it. The Whole Foods here now occasionally stocks a few different types also, at their usual criminal markup. I've seen oroblanco, mellogold, and cocktail grapefruits there.

i think ugli fruit is a proprietary brand of tangelo...

Popped into Lei Low in Houston tonight for a couple drinks.

First up was a Navy Grog with irregular presentation that was super delicious.

Followed by a Tropical Itch which contains their homemade fassionola which is unlike variations discussed here as its made with passion fruit and guava rather than grenadine and raspberry. (I forgot to take the back scratcher home)

The spousal unit had some sort of hot banana rum drink that's new to their menu and was better than any hot buttered rum I've ever had followed by a Mexican Flying Circus which is a tequila drink that may be my favorite thing on their menu.

David our always gracious bartender let us sample several syrups and rums including the Clement coconut which I've never seen on a liquor store shelf, gave us a "night cap" of Plantation Pineapple cuz he knows how much I love it, and sent us home with a t-shirt and some of their house made orgeat and grenadine. I love this place.

David, the decor is very tastefully done. The place isn't that big, it has kind of a neighborhood vibe to it but there's enough going on decor wise that it feels like a getaway. They have some Witco pieces including a Viking ship, hanging lamp and fountain, there's some carved tikis by Amate and Aloha Texas Tiki, a thatched A frame behind the bar that guards the regular customers tiki mugs they've brought from their collection that they are served in when they come, the walls are covered in matting and one whole side has images paying homage to tiki temples of the past. There's a couple peacock chairs and rattan sofas. It's not too kitschy or over the top. Menu has a mix of classics, reinterpretations and originals. I really wish there was a place like this in Austin. It's 2 and half hours from my house but I've been there more times in the last year than I've been to all other bars in Austin combined.

I'm sure there are pictures if you search Lei Low here. I'm pretty sure I posted some a while back.

Mike, glad to hear the excellent review of Lei Low. I think we'll be hearing more about them real soon.

I had to break down and see what all the fuss was about ...

Picked up the bottle Monday. Started out last night with a classic Daiquiri, which was outstanding. Tonight I went with a Tiki twist, adding passion fruit syrup and a few dashes of Angostura and Pernod. Great stuff!
