Ah, I think I will have a ships worth of rations, since rations are no more. :)

I had a Navy Grog, Pusser's Blue Label & Red Label Tots at Rugger's Reef and am now "a casa" and having Pusser's Blue label with fresh lime juice & Depaz. I stopped at Brewster's and had Diplimatico Reserva Especiale and Appleton Reserve, too. To the Queen!

Coco Mojo:
1 1/2 oz coconut rum
1/2 oz melon liqueur
1/2 oz raspberry vodka
3 oz pineapple juice

A big glass of tears over flavored vodka and coconut rum

Indeed Mark, that is a good reason to cry. But look and see, there is so much good with the bad.

Island Hopper

1 oz spiced rum
1/2 oz coconut rum
1/2 oz rasberry rum
1/2 oz coconut cream
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz OJ

Navy Grog . . . Smith & Cross, Lemon Hart, St. Elizabeth's Allspice Dram, White Grapefruit Juice, Depaz Sugar Cane Syrup, fresh lime juice, club soda, mint . . .

Drip brewed, LavAzza Crema e Gusto coffee . . . neat.

Good God . . . does nobody drink on here anymore? Am I the only one willing to share my tales of inebriation and occasional sobriety?

Oh well . . . here goes, Lemon Hart 151, Depaz Sugar Cane Syrup and fresh lime juice with mint . . . I won't be long . . .

BTW . . . that's "old" label Lemon Hart, I was lucky enough to lay in a supply . . . obviously it won't last too long!

I made my wife anniversary breakfast so we're drinking Mimosas with good OJ and cheap champagne (Andre, $4/bottle @ WalMart) :lol:

Jasper's Jamaican
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz Pimento Liquor
1/4 tsp. sugar (I used sugar syrup)
1 1/4 oz. gold Jamaican Rum.

so good.

Planet of the Apes
3/4 Creme de Banana
1 0z unsweetened pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
2 oz dark Jamaican

yum.

Skull Island is my answer,
4 cl Golden Rum
3 cl Hula Mix (equal parts banana liqueur and chocolate liqueur)
4 cl Pineapple Juice
3 cl Grapefruit Juice
1,5 cl Lime juice
1 cl Simple syrup
1 cl Half&half
dash absinthe

Shaken with ice and strained into a skull :)

1oz El Dorado 12
3/4oz Appleton Estate Reserve
1/4oz Smith & Cross
.5oz amaretto
.5oz Bauchant orange liquer (or Grand Marnier... but not Cointreau, I don't think)
.5oz fresh lime juice

This is ridiculously good.

nice, i've also been using demerara/dark rum combo lately in my mai tais.

Omar's Delight from Remixed, page 144. The Southern Comfort 100 proof is surprisingly good.

Had a Mai Tai last night with St. James Extra Old, Appleton 12 yr, and Clement Creole Shrubb. I am now out of the shrubb and that's a sad thing indeed.

Tonight I made a Fog cutter (original recipe) and a Nui Nui - over the last year and a half I have been training hard (no, seriously) to learn as many classic recipes as I can, I want to open a Tiki bar here in Vancouver BC....it rains 8 months a year, we need this!
I must say that the classic Donn recipes suit my taste far and above the majority of Trader Vics. I find the lemon, light rum, orgeat thing has nothing on the lime, dark rum and Pernod - not to mention a bit of pimento and honey mix. Curious to know what you think?

a Trader Vic's navy grog, using 1/3 oz St Elizabeth's in lieu of 3/4 oz "grog mix" (whatever that might be).

well, the Mai tai has neither lemon nor light rum, the scorpion has more OJ than lemon, and probably the best known pimento drink is Trader Vic's formulation of navy grog.

TV sure did like his orgeat though, and DtB sure liked his grapefruit/cinnamon/honey. I'd say my palate craves each of those tastes from time to time.


Mookulele Mule

1 oz. 10 Cane Rum
1 oz. The Kraken Spiced Rum
1 oz. El Dorado Demerara Rum (5 year)
1/2 oz. El Presidente Mexican Brandy
1 1/2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
6 oz. Orange-Mango Juice
1/2 oz. Kalani Coconut Liqueur
1/2 oz. Orgeat
1/2 oz. Trader Vic's Macadamia Nut Liqueur

Shake with crushed ice and pour into large snifter or tiki mug. Garnish with fresh hyssop or mint. Drink while strumming ukulele to the tune of "Where Did Robinson Crusoe Go With Friday on Saturday Night?"

I am roughing it . . . almost ashamed to say I'm drinking TV Mai Tai mix, Cruzan Aged (Gold), 80 Proof Lemon Hart (thanks God), and fresh lime juice . . . sometimes we do what we have to in the wilds . . .

dammit The Blue Kahuna, were you never in scouting?! next time-- be prepared-- mix up all you need for your canteen ahead of time...

although i admit, mrbalihai's post reminds me i'm down to canned hyssop. :wink:

Unfortunately, I was never in the scouts . . . a junior bowling league, but they brought the fries and cokes to us . . . thanks for the advice though . . . I hope I can find a big enough canteen :)

now i've mixed up a Don the Beachcomber navy grog. But, as many have advised, after a few sips I had to throw in a little pimento dram a la Trader Vic. I guess the cross-bred navy grog is the popular choice for a reason...

I had two Samoan Fog Cutters. Still too much gin, but I drank them anyways! :)

Tonight my wife opened a can of coconut water then couldn't finish it so I threw in some diplimatico, lime cordial, 151 El Dorado, Pernod, dons mix #2, grapefruit, orange and a dash of falernum. Inspired but not great as I tried to hard to not waste the coconut water and used too much.
Last night however - mixed up both a "Three dots and a dash" (one of a few personal favourites') and a Jet Pilot (one of the other), both were great!
Tomorrow night we fly into LA as we get ready for Tiki O and we will be sipping "Rays Mistakes" for half price at the Tiki Ti...........won't get back to post but read this then and that's what I'll be drinking "right now"!

drink some Anting Antings too for comparison.

Inbreeding of 3 rums, OJ and coconut juice...

Not quite like Frankie's but good on Oasis Eve

Navy Grog, but i've no honey left, so i've substituted demerara sugar syrup.

Lemon Hart, Ron Pampero, and 15 yr old Tanduay gold. a smidge of Pimento Dram thrown i nfor good major (aka the TC Navy Grog).

A riff on the Tiki Ti classic, "Jim's Special," and the title of my favorite Venture Bros. episode.

2 oz. Cruzan Blackstrap Navy Rum
2 1/2 oz. Corralejo Tequila Reposado
1 oz. Fresh-squeezed Lime Juice
1 oz. Passionfruit syrup
3/4 oz. Presidente Mexican Brandy
3/4 oz. Cointreau
1/2 oz. Kalani Coconut Liqueur
1/2 oz. Cuarenta Y Tres (Licor 43)
Dash of Fee Bros. Grapefruit Bitters

Shake with crushed ice and pour unstrained into a large snifter. Fill with more crushed ice. Garnish with fresh rosemary sprigs.

I'm trying a Mai Tai made with Appleton V/X and El Dorado 3 Year. Earlier I had a Hurricane -- 'cause, you know, we're in a hurricane.

Pretty soon I won't care if we're in a tsunami.

Vintage 2008- is it ready to drink yet, or is that tiki gonna rest a little longer?

You usually drink Pinot Noir when it is young (within the first 5 years as I recall), so I will probably be emptying this one soon.

First post! I've been going tiki all summer and its great to finally find a forum about it!

Today:

Round 1: Tequila and passion fruit with a dash of grenadine

Round 2! A Planters punch :D

Round 3! Orange/pineapple juice, malibu and light rum

And finally - Mai Tai Thursdays :D
