Okay, TCers. What in the world did I miss regarding the raising of a memorial at Tiki Gardens?

My excuse is a lame one... a combination of my wife getting DSL at home (leaving my old computer with no dial-up connection) and the boss cracking down on surfing at work means I literally haven't logged in to Tiki Central since before Christmas.

Based on the back threads I've just been pouring through, a whole lot blew up since then. I feel ABSOLUTELY terrible that my $20 didn't make it into the right pocket at the right time. I had no idea the deadline came and went. I had no intention to blow this, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I will wire, PayPal or write a check out for $20 ASAP to ANYONE if it will be of any help at this late date.

Again, I'm sorry this whole thing has turned sour. I LOVE the spirit of those who have worked so hard to try to raise this memorial, and I still want to help.

But I can't find any posts about this since the middle of last month, right before Chris was to make the proposal to the county. What happened? Anyone?

My take on it:

Last I heard, Chris Y has continued to pitch it to the council but he has insisted to me on numerous occasions that there would be no association with Tiki Central.

I don't really know what that means, though. Is is going to give back the money that was donated? How does the new plan differ from the old plan? I never really thought there was anything "offical" between the Memorial project and Tiki Central, so I'm just not clear on what's going on. Last I heard though he was going to use the money that had been donated so far, so that doesn't sound too different than the original idea.

Tiki Gardener has disappeared, it seems. I've not seen a post from him in a long time, and apparently he didn't answer any of Chris's emails.

Chris seemed to be very soured on it though, and he didn't really have any interest in smoothing things out and moving forward, so I wouldn't expect to hear much about the project from here on out.

Darn it. That is really too bad, all the way around.

I guess some things weren't meant to be.

Chris, if you're still reading this, good luck. I still think it's a great cause...

yes, let's have some updates pleeeeze

I answered all of Cy's emails. The last raving email about how I didn't deserve to be on the project becuase I wouldn't post for him, and apparently it was a cardinal sin to approve someone who wanted to help out, but who didn't have the minimum $20.00.

That one I just bounced with my mail filter.

I've been dealing with having little sccops of flesh taken out of me for testing to see if all my years in the Florida sun have finally caught up with me. Along with numerous tests to see why I feel a knot in the right side of my throat. So far it's not Thyroiditis. But thats about all I know.

So life has had higher priorities for me. Not knowing whether I'm going to be like the guy in mad max using a friggin vibrator against my throat to communicate with people sorta makes perspectives change.

At some point the small stack of new images in info I've managed to find will work its way onto the memorial.

As to the tiki, damn shame, despite all the doom and gloom, I still think it will get done someday.
