Happy 92nd Birthday - Martin Denny

I

Today, April 10, is Martin Denny's 92nd birthday. It is nice to have one of the legends of exotica music still here with us.

Why not celebrate with a cocktail, or by playing one of his CD/LPs on your stereo?

is there a way to send a mass e-card signed by all the Tiki Centralites?

Here's Fluid Floyd's report on Martin Denny's Birthday Party Bash (culled from Exotica mailing list):

====
Martin Denny celebrated his 92nd birthday at the Elks Club in Waikiki on Thursday, April 10. It started off with lunch and cake for 30 close friends followed by a
surprise musical jam arranged by his daughter Christina Denny and Mike Largarticha. I was the MC for the day and dubbed the line-up, "The Martin Denny All Stars." And what a stellar cast of musicians and dancers showed up to perform and pay tribute to the man who rode the top of the charts with his unique
exotica sounds! Denny kicked off the jam with his hits, Quiet Village, Taste of Honey, and Firecrackers (sampled by J Lo in one of her hits). Backing band and performers throughout the day included Gabe Balthazar, Jimmy Borges, Harold Chang, Augie Colon and his son, Lopaka Colon, Del Courtney, Shari Lynn, Noel Okimoto, Al Waterson, Buddy and Sammi Fo, Mahi Beamer, Nina Kealiiwahamana, Art Todd, Archie Grant, Frankie Kim, Shirley Recca, and Manu. It was a magical afternoon that went on for nearly 5 hours and was Hawaii's version of the Buena Vista Social Club. King Kalakaua Social Club anyone?

Keep those tiki torches blazin'!
