Description:
On of my favorite old postcards of a pre-Tiki bar and restaurant in Chicago. The bamboo huts over the dining booths are wicked cool.

Also came across this old menu from the place.

Good post DC. I passed up that first card of yours and a few more of different shots of the Tropics this weekend. Pre Tiki is not my collecting cup-o-tea but good to see in a post of it's own to show the evolution time line.

Trav,

I don't think I have ever seen another postcard from the Tropics in Chicago. Do you remember what it looked like?

Here is a matchbook from ebay.

That's a hellava location.

DC

A menu with a nice rendering of the little Tiki huts at the Tropics.

DC

Picked up another old brochure from the Hotel Chicagoan with a photo of the Tropics Lounge. Built in 1937 with all the modern comforts.

DC

A napkin with a sporty Palm Tree.

DC

Tiki Shaker,

Nice malier! Looks like the artist borrowed some ideas from Monte Proser's Beachcomber.

DC

And while were at it, an artful menu cover.

And a few entertainment ads.

DC

Wow! Great pre-Tiki material, guys!
