I think the grin is good but the eyes look pretty evil right now. Love the way the details are coming together.

Yeah Mike, you are right about the eyes...hope to get some time in tonight to work on them...

Made quite a bit of changes to the face....I'm pretty happy with it now! Still quite a bit to go!

Perfect!!!!! He looks like a happy drunk

Thanks Mike...I'm going to continue to work on his look though...see if I can just give a hint of something that says "watch your wallet"!

Blocking in more areas....hope to do an avalanche of detail soon!

There you go, zero! Much less evil and more of a "drunken friend" vibe to Lester now. Coming along just fine. G

Thanks Greg!

Big South Florida thunderstorm kept me from working more than a few minutes tonight! Here is a close up of Lester's face....more work to be done on nose eyes etc.

Moving slowly on this one...haven't had much time to work on it. I did work on the Tiki behind the window and added some of the masks behind the him and am still fine tuning the chimps face! Long way to go!

We are taking my Dad out this weekend (his Birthday) to the Mai Kai. So I will be taking some reference pics on the main Tiki....don't have many good shots of him right now. More later!

Looks good Robert. Nice uplit palm tree out the window, booth details are coming together. Keep the receipt for your "research" visit to the Mai Kai, when you sell the painting you can write that expense off your taxes

I'm keeping ALL my Mai Kai receipts Mike! :)

Still working on the chimp but thought I'd post a Moai sketch I did during lunch today.

The Tiki is beginning to get some detail...very slow progress but I am quite happy with it so far!

Starting to block in the Barrel of Rum and the hand now. Excuse the blurry pics....it's way past my bedtime!

Coming together!!! Lots o' details; table lamp, rum barrel, mug? in hand, blowfish, etc.

Thanks Mike! That actually will be a carved tiki in his hand....probably based on my DO NOT MOCK THE TIKI GOD illustration.

I like that! A lot!

I didn't think he would need the rum barrel and ANOTHER mug too but he is a BAD boy so...

Laying in hair! Which is really a lot of fun....and worked a bit on the Tiki!

working the fez a bit....I feel I have a few more weeks to go on this! May look slight warped due to my camera lens!

Here's the latest....added quite a bit of chest hair (after straightening out the chest a bit) and am working the lamps abit. More soon!

I wish my abs looked like that, but I don't need that much hair

Coming along Robert! :)

Great depth and perfect fur, Wendy

I'm waiting for the blowfish :D

Thanks Wendy!

And Mike, as to the blowfish....I keep hoping I wake up one day and it's all done! Guess I have to confront it soon!

Managed to take a photo of the painting outside. So everything looks as sharp as it should altho' the overall color is a tad on the blue side making it seem less warm that it actually is.

Working on the lamps, table (which is still quite crooked) and the Mai Kai sign!

That's not crooked, it's an optical illusion! The sign looks good (I didn't really see it before) AND I SEE BLOWFISH SPINES!!!! :D

I'm seeing a baby monkey hand over the big monkeys left breast. Or am I imagining that? See what you started MadDog, Wendy

MDM, the spines are in and it's been very challenging for me so far....that is my 3rd attempt at that blowfish so far. It's coming along I think!

Wendy, I see exactly what you mean but that is his ribs...this chimp is kinda "ripped"! :)

I have 2 new prints for sale! Pics below, details in the Marketplace:

http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=38056&forum=12&0

I'm really struggling with this guy! Hope it works out! I straightened a bunch of stuff that needed straightening and am adding more details, a vintage Mai Kai menu, embellishing his fez etc! More soon!

BTW, I have prints available in the marketplace forum, with a sneak peek one post above this one!

The "optical illusion table" is fixed. Looks sharp Robert.

Thanks Mike!

Working on something a little different for an upcoming show....not too different being that it is a chimp I guess! Lester is on hold for a night or two!

WICKED!!! I like it just like it is right now!

Here's "THE GREETER" Acrylic on Canvas 6x6 inches. Just needed to knock that out! Lester is kicking my butt!

Just finished a non-Tiki painting. It's a 6x6 inch Howard The Duck. Even though it is non-Tiki I thought I'd post a link in case anyone would like to see it:

http://www.zerostreet.net/?p=914

Tomorrow I get back to Lester!

Howard is haggardly dapper and the Greeter so moody and mysterious. 6x6, just little guys :)

Thanks Mike! The Greeter is for a gallery show I was invited to. The "theme" is small and affordable art, hence the size. Howard is a gift to our daughters pediatrician. He loves ducks, especially Howard. He's one of "those" doctors, you know, duck tie, duck on his stethoscope...

W

Love "The Greeter" Robert! Wicked cool.

Chris

Thanks Chris!

Back on Lester....adding a chair and working the Barrel O' Rum a bit...time for bed now! (wish there was a sleepy smilie!)

SHAZAM!!

I love the "faux velvet" piece, and the one that you're struggling with looks fine - if it still was bothering me, I'd put it in a drawer for a month and jump on it hard then!

More pieces on black please.

Thanks Robb! As I mentioned to you in a PM your work was the inspiration for The Greeter! I definitely intend to do more!

"Greeter" - now that's pretty cool. I like the simple moody vibe off of that one.

"Lester" - What can I say other than he must be pickled by now, sitting at the Mai Kai this long!

LOVE THEM BOTH...
