Wendy-Here's that Pink oNe!
"Dream of the Agiba Skullrack"

This was the other piece i had in the "Hunters and Collectors" exhibition

and here's the sign i made for the show from some nasty piece of wood BigToe had...
Toe spruced it up a bit with the white outlines and him and Boo Ben added the cool "darts!

Here's a link to the FaceBook page of the Hunters and Collectors exhibition ARTWORK!
Don't be shy-get over there and LOOK! You can always come back here later!

Oh no just when I was convinced that orange was perfect. Pink is good very good, love them all Kinny, Wendy

Thanks Wendy!
i had to tolerate a whole day vending with GROG teasing me about orange and green colorways... I guess it's not the colors, but what you do with em!
When a painting calls for pink-i obey...When it asks for olive-i grab the olive...

and now........Here it is!
the twins!
The veil of secrecy has been lifted and they are now a part of the
clamshell roofed Mermaid bar at Mojave Oasis!
(if anyone has a good shot of these in situ,i would love to see them!)

soooooo,without further adieu....

"Land of the Mermaids (Angelfish)
3x4'
acrylic and cel-vinyl on gessoed wood

"Land of the Mermaids (Seahorse)
3x4'
acrylic and cel-vinyl on gessoed wood

Thank you Amy,for letting these humble offerings share occupancy with so much stunning art and handiwork! i am moved and honored to have been able to add to that Incredible weekend!

i may be doing a limited edition print of each
25 of each, signed and numbered...but i'm still on the fence about it..
we'll see....

Anyways friends,Thank you all for your encouragement and kindness and patience
during the sneak-peek phase of this project!

and if you can make it out to Mojave Oasis sometime, give my twins a lil hug and smile!
:)

Very awesome art. I love it. The bar at Mojave Oasis was really beautiful. I was blown away!

W

Did I hear the word "prints"? Kinny you know I'd be in for that if you went ahead with some.

Loving the new works.

Chris
WestADad

Mahalo TrailerPark Tiki!
I felt the same about the Mermaid lounge....especially at night! MAGIC!

Aloha Chris!-Yes,you heard correctly...
Been getting a lot of inquiries about prints...
As much as i like my friends to have originals,i can't paint epic pieces all the time
so prints will have to do,but i promise to keep them limited
Makes them more of a special thing, and keeps me from drowning in inventory!
:)
Give me a few weeks to decompress and i will announce them when they're ready!

Thank you both and to all of you who visit this thread and keep me smiling with your kindness and encouragement!
in the meantime ....
Here's how the twins look on the ceiling of the Mermaid Lounge at Mojave Oasis!
(Now i am proudly in TWO Bamboo Ben built bars! This one and Frankies! What a Blessing!it's makin me GIDDY!!!!!!!!!!)
:)

g'night!

G
GROG posted on Sat, Apr 23, 2011 11:12 PM

They hung them on the ceiling so GROG couldn't whiz on them.

they were designed with a latch to fall on you at a pre-conceived time during the activities last weekend...
UNFORTUNATELY,my plan backfired!
maybe next year,Ernie!
:)

G
GROG posted on Sun, Apr 24, 2011 8:49 AM

That's because Bamboo Ben installed them and Bamboo Ben love GROG.

They do however need two individual spots on them, to make them pop out more at night. Their eye-popping detail deserves it!

T

These paintings are so beautiful...such an awesome part of the masterpiece that is The Mermaid Lounge.

Aloha Sven!
So wonderful to be able to visit and lounge with you and Naomi at Mojave Oasis!
How funny was Dawn's chickenleg marinade for her drink?!?!?
Ray and i were discussing that very thing on Sunday morning
and we both agreed that too much lighting there would detract from all the
other wonderful treasures in the mermaid lounge....
It's kind of one of those landmarks that you have to seek out a bit
for isn'tthe longer journey
the one more filled with discovery and reward? :)
Once i can get prints of these two,it'll give folks the option to harshlight em all they want!
Thank you again,as always, for your knowledge, kindness, and encouragement!

Tobor64-Thank you so much!Glad they added to the magic that was Mojave Oasis! :)
I'm very pleased that i could give Amy and her Paradise a lasting bit of my soul and heart
to share with others and to help amplify their buzzes!

and here's a NEW DRAWING!
"the SkullStick Shaker"
ink and pastel pencil on Aquarelle watercolor paper)
from a "Frantic Dancers" series i return to on occasion ...

Aloha!

Kinny you are filled with so much creativity that I worry you would explode if you ever stopped painting for a moment. So keep it up and inspire us and add to our enjoyment of life through your art. Wendy

Mahalo Wendy!
You are a true inspiration
and i hope you heal in half the time!
:)
Two new ones....

Beautiful work! Congrats!

Another artist's thread I got caught up in due to all the wonderous beauty. I don't know I think I am pretty well convinced that there is some secret tiki coffee somewhere that keeps you all awake to do such fantastic work. I love all the minute little details of your art, and the beautiful colors. I am particularly fascinated with the tissue paper technique you use for the color on watercolor paper; it has such a retro awesome look to it. The mermaid ones towards the end of the thread are mind-blowing. Thanks for sharing it all. :)

Yawn!
Got three new pieces done this weekend
cause i gotta start cranking on a top secret commission
(Oh NOOO! i've said too much...)

All are done

I'll have to do a step-by-step with the tissue paper/ink technique sometime soon...
i have a couple in this thread somewhere, but i couldn't tell you where....
http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=19904&forum=18&start=0&2665

Here's a piece where i did a tissue paper drawing and then figured out how to get that look on canvas...

Experimentation is the key with art-pushing and mixing and blending styles
and seeing what kind of magic arises out of it...

"Valley of the Volcanoes"
acrylic and cel-vinyl on wood with a Bamboo Ben construction

Here's some close-ups
This one was really fun as i simplified elements and played with the lighting and dimensional qualities
albeit very simply...

Here's the Volcanoes.... I like hoow it looks like they're filled with MAGMA!

and here's out little tiki fellar, wandering about,on the hunt for somethin!

and here's the second one...
"Crybaby Ku"
acrylic and cel-vinyl on wood with a lovely Bamboo Ben frame

Here's a close-up of the face...
the background was very rough with broad brushstrokes
and then tightening up on the line-work and shading on top of that!

That's all i gots...Beddy-bye Ohana!
and thanks for visitin!

Almost forgot this one!

BB

OOOoooOOOooo!! :D

You've got a cool Cubist approach to Tiki art, I like it.

B

I was browsing TC at lunch break, and a co-worker walked by, pointed at this one and said, "That's crazy!"
Yep, you still got it, Lord Kenneth :)

Bowie

Bo-Bo-
MAHALOOOOOooooOOOOOooooo!! :D
Miss you man!

Tucker's Tikis-
Thanks man! I'm never one to settle into a comfortable style
Part of the artist's responsibility is to learn and experiment and progress and apply
this style has been fascinating me for a few years now
there's still so much to learn about it!

If you'd like to see the birth of that style
or all the other different art experiments
here's 179 pages of em! :)

Bowie!A hundred thanks,my friend! Glad to see we're still crazy after all these years! :)

Here's a new one
"Midnight Oasis"
acrylic and cel-vinyl on wood
with yet another PERFECT Bamboo Ben frame!

If you'd like to see some details...

Mahalos for moseying on over !
:)

Dear Friend, page 15 is a super page of beautiful art. I just sat here and scrolled up and down enjoying your creativity. Your art is so unique that it is easy to see a piece and know that it was from your brain and hand. Your art is special and as a gifted man you are humble and dear. What a combo dish! Wendy

Still the Best! Dont go changin.

:D

Sorry, actually, in Kenny's case, I agree with mp

Wendy-Never been called a dish before! Mahalos! Mahalos!
I'm so happy you had some creative inspiration and fun on page 15... I'll try and make page 16 even better! It's all of you,my artist ohana, that keeps me striving for betterment. What good is a gift if you can't drive it into the ground? :)

mp-love you man! the feeling is mutual....
I can't even begin to tell you how TIGHT your velvets are gettin!
You took to em like a fish to water!
That piece at the burros show still lingers in my mind!

Sven! MAhalos!
How funny!
My friend Kelly said she was just over visiting your hut last week and gazed at some paintings on your wall and recognized them as Kinny paintings! What a joy and crackup to hear that news!
I've been trying to get that gal back to the easel recently
(we used to exhibit together in the 90's-such a talent and brain!) Next time you see her, prod her, okay?
And as for CHANGE.....
Change is inevitable,it always is...
but i think,if it EVOLVES with thought and care
it will still retain that magic!:)
So, i promise you i won't change
BUT evolution still may take place....
I promise to do my best!

Anyways.......here's another one i painted a few weeks back
"the Volcano Bowl"
acrylic and cel vinyl on wood
with a perfect bamboo ben frame!

same series as the other "after Hours" ones
BUT with a change of palette and mood...
Enjoy!

I love the way you create your special art. I like the new colors too. You are one of a kind, the kind I love, Wendy

Mahalos Wendy,my art-sister!
Your talent and enthusiasm always puts a recharge in my battery!
Sorry i've been so vacant here lately.
My computer at the studio crashed and i lost 2 years worth of work
So i've been diligent and trying to reshoot everything
and then BACKING it up....
Anyways,I'm about 15 paintings backlogged, but until i get the computer back
all i can share is what i can clean up and post here at work....
So here's one more for y'alls!
This, and many others will be premiering at
Mojave Oasisi-Going Primitive
in just 2 weekends!
Come on up to the trailer and say Aloha if you're attending!
:)
Anyways...
"Baby Cannibal Idol"

and just the painting

That's all for now!
I'll post more as i get time...
Have a great week!
:)

Ken, did you upgrade to a trailer? Sweet! :D (Sorry to hear about the computer crash :( )

HEY MIKE!
Yes i DID upgrade to a trailer!
That way i could hawk my wares at a leisurely pace
and run and hide in the trailer for a nap
when traffic gets slow!
Sooooo looking forward to MOasis!
COMPUTER'S STILL IN THE SHOP
BUT! i have the handy dandy work computer
to present lil snippets for you to taste.....

Speaking of....

Here's another piece for the event
Will be posting a new one every day
that i have access to a computer....
so Hang On!
it's gonna be a fun next few days....
:)

"the Burial Ground"

and the piece all by itself...

That's it for now!
Mahalos for the visit!
:)

Was wondering where you got to LLT, sorry about the computer woes. Great stuff as always... sorry at this point I am running low on expletives of coolness regarding your work.

Aloha tigertail!

Don't worry about adjectives or expletives
a simple smile will suffice.....

FINALLY got the MAC-OSX back
after some brain surgery
and 1TB external HD!
Now,it's just gathering up what art files i have
and organizing em!
in between getting ready for Mojave Oasis....
zounds!
"The Bubble-bath Voyeur" of yours turned out great
that thing is lit like a well-designed Tiki Bar!

Well, here's another one you haven't seen
that's been done for about a week or two....
it's a lil bit more basic than the others
more of an experiment in colors and whatnot...

"Afternoon"
acrylic and cel vinyl on wood

H

Love The Burial Ground.

Mahalos hiltiki!
i had a little apprehension about using that bright blue and vermilion
but the browns seemed to keep them in check! :)

Here's 2 more i just got cleaned up and ready to post!
Sparkly new and ready to be YOURS at Mojave Oasis!

"the Watcher"
acrylic and cel vinyl on found wooden cutting board

and yet another experiment with colors and lighting and perspective and depth and all dat good stuff....

"the End of the Day"
acrylic and cel vinyl on wood
with a resplendent Bamboo Ben frame

sans frame...

Das it! Gotta get to woiks!
Have a great day Ohana!
:)

"experiment in color" he says...right. Like you don't already have colors mastered.
Thanks for the kind words about the mermaid bubble bath, appreciate it. :)

tigertail,
one never truly masters colors,we can hop on it's back and hang on tight, but it's never a mellow ride
it;s always nailing it until there's an added ANOMALY...
i guess it's just doing it enough
and looking and observing
and learning how to SAVE the piece...
Thankfully,the wonky colorways get fewer
as the years plod onward...
Speaking of colors, that cereal box series you've been formulating sounds like a fun challenge!
can't wait to see the La-dies on there!

Well, took a break from sealing pieces and cleaned up a few more to present to the tribe....

"Tongue-Wagger"
acrylic and cel vinyl
on a delightful wooden cutting board paddle,
a gift from an esteemed Ohana member

a little Maori-Action goin on here...
i apologize for the polyester pants beige color in the background, but the black messed up the silhouette..

and here's a piece created especially with
Mojave Oasis in mind

"Goin Primitive"
acrylic and cel vinyl
on a very smooth and rounded cutting board

Welpers.... until tomorrow dear friends
or maybe not.....
might be having the Toe and the Horne over for an Artjam
got one more secret guest on the POSSIBLE list
so we'll see....

Last week had the Toe and the illustrious MP for an artjam
the inspiration and guffaws never cease with those rapscallions!

G'night!

Aloha Ohana!
Welpers...this was my last weekend before MOJAVE OASIS
so i thought i'd go a LITTLE PRIMITIVE
this last stretch and ..well scroll down and CHEGGITOUT!

Bought a plaster life-size skull at Michaels
brought it home and it was broken!!!!
So i went back and got another one
(I'll be giving the defective one to BigToe 'cause he likes to paint defective stuff!) :)

Anyways ,i did some acrylic washes on it to age it,gleaning some tricks from Squid
to give it a nice old moldy skull appearance!

After that i started just grabbing Polynesian motifs out of the air and
ploppin em down in a meaning ful fashion...
i added the sun guy on the top o the noggin to lighten things up...
We're Primitive, but not Savages when it comes to mirth here!

Anyways,after that i sanded it a bit
and incised some more designs into the painted motifs
and stained over them with a few more glazes of raw umber,etc....

and here it is!

"the Ancestor Skull"
acrylic and cel-vinyl on plaster skull

one side..

the back with the sun guy

the other side

and a close-up to show you how i rubbed and buffed and scratched it into pseudo authenticity!

i hope i sell it at MOasis,it gives me the creeples....
There appears to be a LOT of Mana in it!

Next up... just a silly little one
"the Cannibal King"
acrylic and cel-vinyl on wood

Then it's BUST OUT the Colburn Wood-burning Kit
Time to go PRIMITIVE with that medium for awhile...

I'd sketch it out in pencil
wood-burn it
erase the pencil lines (or not!)
and then tint over it with light washes of cel-vinyl....

"the Cannibal's Burden"
wood-burn and cel-vinyl tinting on wood

Later a Philosophical Cloud entered the studio and
during the late night hours
i contemplated a sad Cannibal
remorseful over his loneliness
caused by his overabundant appetite....

"the Crying Cannibal"
wood-burn and cel-vinyl tinting on wood

this one used a variety of color tints for a soft colored woodcut look...

Here's a close-up of the Tears of a Cannibal...

That's it for Now! Gotta go hit the Hay and rest up..
This comin weekend's gonna be a DOOZY!!!!!
Night all!

Beautiful as always...but yeah that skull gives me the creeps.

Cel vinyl? As in animation cel vinyl paint? Where do you buy that stuff? I used to be able to get it at one of our local art stores but they don't carry it anymore or the pegged animation cel sheets. I only have a few bottles of "cartoon colour" left and would like to get more. Are they the only company left that makes that stuff?
