Gosh, I came home from work so tired and all of your notes just perked me up. I'm still recovering from pneumonia so its slow going on casting until I'm more peppy.

Thanks Grog and one more question. Does a cold mold even when dry act slower to remove the water?

Colors, now that's something I've been thinking about all the time. The match book is black with white lettering and highlights. But then there is the other side. Well the mask could then be light brown and the words Coral Reef could be in coral pink red. All of that would look good if it works and doesn't run.

I think I will make some proto types in different glazes and then post them for a vote. If it works out we could have a paint your own mug party as long as there is time for that and fireing before the crawl. Tiki Mookie I haven't forgotten you want to come for a clay day.

Eric you are welcome. The day of vamps party Dan and I are taking a mold making class from Mike (he made this mold). I'll take photos of the process for this thread. I've caved in and plan to learn how to make molds.

Tiki G always good to hear from you.

I just love it that we will have tikiphiles clear from reading on South Ca coming. Wow. Cheers everyone, Wendy

Thrillsville...just booked a flight for the Mother Unit to come up for the Crawl. You know she can handle a couple of drinks and kill snakes if necessary...and that ain't too bad for 91 years old. She had fun year-before-last on the crawl...she is still talking about Alia's Pulled Pork!!!

We need to get her over to Dan & Wendy's so she can see that Jungle Room :)

Hi Vamp, we would love to have your mother in the jungle. We should put her in animal skins and take photos. She's a wild one for sure!

Grog's good advice is being followed. I put the mold in the sun when I'm home so it can dry extra well. Even still tiny pieces come off each time I use it. I'm numbering them as I go. The two that Mike poured I'll use for glaze tests. I'm trying to paint my original sculpt tonight as an example of how they could look (maybe, I'm learning as I go).

Here's a photo of the mold baking and the mugs drying. Cheers, Wendy

ps see everyone at Vamp's party Saturday

I'll have the original at Vamps party. Wendy

GO WENDY!!

cant' wait to see it when it's done. already making room for it on the shelf

Great job on organizing the crawl Duane and great job on that mug Wendy! I can't wait to see everybody at Vamp's tomorrow evening!

My stuff finally showed up this week so now I am unpacking and working to "tikify" this new house. If anyone is in East Sac drop on by for a cocktail, I am at 1461 52nd St. (5 doors down from The Shack on Folsom).

[ Edited by: rugbymatt 2010-07-23 18:08 ]

Glad your stuff arrived. Are ya going to have a space set up to share on the crawl?

After seeing that awesome mug prototype tonight at your soirée how could I say no? Helz yea I'm in!

YEAH!!! Wow the venue is getting full. Duane has got a fabulous line-up going on for us. This will be the best crawl ever!!! I'm still thrilled about the Martini Kings going out of their way to play at my place....truly a dream come true for me. :)

Super Good Time. Vamp your party was so much fun, good food, drink and hugs all around. Wendy

Duane thought up the mug, I made it, Bullet contacted Mike, Mike made the mold.

The first one out of the mold.

The prototype painted to look like the match book.

I surprised Duane with his name on the bottom of the mug.

I couldn't have done it without Mike. He has since begun to teach Dan and I how to make molds. We are so happy! Thank you Mike.

This mug project has changed the rest of my life. I've now invested in a kiln for the first time. Babalu, MadDogMike and Gecko are helping me learn all the tricks. There are so many projects to look forward too.

With all the excitement over the mug I couldn't stop smiling thank you all.

I'm going to post a new thread on Making Molds under Crafts soon. Mike is even going to teach us how to make master molds. I'll share what I learn, no secrets. Hugs, Wendy

PS I missed photos of Christine, Casey, Eva, Brenda so many people so little time. If you have some please post them.

PSS I've posted the best photos of the mug on my Gallery page.

Hi Wendy,

I feel so bad we missed your "pre" unvailing at Vamps house yesterday. We had a prior engagement and got there around 9:30, and heard all the raves about what we had missed.

I'm looking forward to the crawl, it's going to be epic!

And I'd love to take you up on your offer to have me help you with painting. I miss art, and used to paint watercolors, and use my creativity. Matt & I are working on our house and we have a spare room that will be our art room. I'm so excited for you and your excitement is so infectious. I've always wanted to create with clay, and I think mug making is so exciting. Can't wait to see your informative posts and get together for some creative learning. Sounds like a really fun time.

We'll see you soon! Please let me know when you want some help and I'll find the time! And thanks :)

Mookie

Hi Wendy,

It's great to see the mug take shape. Has does one view your gallery page? Thanks again for creating a mug representing two ol' Sacramento icons. Tonja and I will say hello at Tiki Oasis.

Bill

L

So nice to meet some Sac Ohana in person!

The mug is amazing! Wendy gotz mad skillz :)

Congratulations on the new mug, Wendy. It looks great! You will find that the basics of mold making are pretty simple. The problem is that so many variables can come into play that at times it had me yelling with fists shaking at the sky(you probably heard me all the way in sacto). The most important thing that I have learned is to relax and never try to rush through the process. Have fun with it!

I love to read posts from old and new friends. This is what keeps me excited about tiki art. Leleliz, now I know who you are, I didn't get you and your TC name connected. Hey TK from Oakland it's great to hear from another mug maker (one we collect). Our first mold with Mike turned out well and I'll be sharing the steps. What we molded has an incredible history so I'm holding back until I'm ready to tell the story. TM it will be September when I bisk the mugs and do the black glaze. Then we can assembly line the white. Thequin, go to the home page here on TC, select Gallery, scan down to The art of Wendy Cevola or the author danlovestikis, that's me too! I'd love to hear your comments on that thread when you have time. Hit me on the head at Oasis so I don't miss meeting you, hugs for everyone, Wendy

Hey wendy, The black and white combo turned out great!!! You even now have gotten me looking at the old kilm that my mother put in storage years ago... but could it work still?? Will have to check out the other thread for more info :)

Hi Ka'lenatiki, did you get the kiln out?

It's looking like I'll have 40 mugs made in time for the crawl. That is unless I explode or melt some as I learn.

One a day, that's all I can do with one mold. I'm enjoying this project so much, thank you all for your support.

EVEN THOUGH THE MUGS ARE SOLD OUT NAMES ARE BEING ADDED IN CASE THERE ARE
PEOPLE WHO DO NOT SHOW UP. IF YOU COUNT THERE ARE MORE NAMES THAN MUGS. WHEN PEOPLE COME TO THE CRAWL THEY BUMP OUT OF TOWN PEOPLE FROM GETTING A MUG.

Wendy - you're the muggiest!!

Can't wait for the crawl and one of these beautiful mugs you've got cookin. So awesome I just can't believe all the hard work you're putting into this. Appreciated every step of the way. G

Wendy, went over and stared at it :) needs to be rewired before I dare fire it up, looks like the mice have been at the wiring. Between this tread and the other mug making thread over in crafts, I've got a itch to try making one. Please put me down for at least one mug also while you are making a list. thanks

L

I want a mug too :)

and I will even show up on the crawl to get it!

Well this is fun, thank you, hugs, Wendy

ps I once spent a month stringing a necklace of tiny green pepper seeds sideways, then I painted a tiny flower on each one. This was in the 60's when we all thought we were hippies. I loved my necklace but so did a tiny mouse that found it and ate it and was then executed. Best to not fool around with wiring.

Wendy...I know how deadlines can be stressful, so please know I am very happy to get my mug AFTER our crawl event. That will make another one available for the event attendees. You know the number I like, so do mine after the crawl, I'll catch up with ya later...no hurry for me.

Wow...quite a little "Warehouse Stacking" thing ya go going on there with your babies. LOL

K

I am still planning on spending the weekend with you guys on my way to Vegas for another event. I would very much like to be on the list to purchase one of these fine mugs.

My current plan is to drive down on Friday from Portland. Then leave for Vegas on Monday.

Hi KeithH, I'll add you to the list. We love new people coming to the crawl. Vamp as always you are a sweetheart. Wendy

Add me to the mug list.

And I'm thinking we should set one aside for Eileen V, who will be busy serving our country in Central America (instead of Afghanistan where she was recently).

Sean that is such a wonderful idea.:) Let's all chip in ans buy one for her with a shout out to the wonderful men and women who serve our country!!!

I don't even know her but I'll pitch in towards a mug for anyone that is helping further the rights of the down trodden and preserving the American way.

Please put me down for a mug too Wendy as well as a donation.

Thanks,
Darilyn

E

Just noticed I made your list; looks like I owe you now!

T

Thanks for putting me on the list, Wendy!

If you think you can spare a mug for a guy 3000 miles away, I'd love to have one.
Mahalo,
Rick

Hi Rick, I've started a list for people who want a mug but can't make the crawl. I'll put you on it. If none blow up I'll have 40 for the crawl, when it's over I'll let you know. Thank you for asking, Wendy

W

Wendy, Please put me down for one of your great looking mugs. Can't wait to see it live. Thanks!

Laura

Wendy,

Just in case you didn't already know this from all of my praises and support. I'd be very grateful to be on the list to receive one of these mugs. I can't help in the painting but I'll be glad to own one of these beauties.

Sorry I missed you at the mugs unveiling at Vamps party.

Hey Wendy put me down for a mug and a donation! Look forward to getting to see your awesome collection:)

Wendy,

Great design and execution on this mug! Please add me to your list of those wishing to purchase any mugs left over from the event.

Wendy and Duane I am in awe of your work and inspiration on this mug project.
Wish I could have been at Vamps for the unveiling .I would very much like to be
on the list for a mug and I am hoping I can be up North in October for your event.

L

Heard from a lot of the SoCal Ohana that they are trying to come up for this crawl...would be awesome to see some of you up here for it!

Thanks for the bump and the info Liz!

Hoping to see many from near and far make it up this way for our humble crawl...

Sign me up for 90 minutes. People will need some time to recover after seeing Bullet's amazing collection. And since I have the noon hour, I'll plan on food and some starter cocktails.

And is anyone interested in a Sunday morning breakfast at Pancake Circus before viewing the wonder that is The Jungle Room?

[ Edited by: Chief Bartender 2010-08-26 09:06 ]

Z

Me 'n' Mrs. Cass will try and make it up!

Sounds like a lot of drunken merriment, PTD. Again, thanks for organizing again this year. The crawl, especially with Wendy's fabulous mug, is certain to be an affair to remember.

Anyone needing a place to crash, is welcome at my house. First confirmation gets the guest room with queen size bed. Others get the couch and floor.

Chief Bartender, Pancake Circus is always fun. Anyone up for Lil Joe's out on Del Paso one morning as well?

Brenda - sent you a PM. G

I'm good to go for my time on Saturday (sent you an email Duane). What a great line up for the weekend. My placed is booked solid for over-nighters but there are hotels close by. Here is a link to a couple and you can Google zip code 95648. I am close to Rocklin and Roseville also.

THUNDER VALLEY CASINO is just down the road from me and they have a brand new hotel. They advertise rooms from $99.00
http://www.thundervalleyresort.com/

STAYBRIDGE SUITES is the closest hotel right on Highway 65 with suites starting at $99.00

K

Is anyone willing to drive an out-of-towner around for the weekend (I can gladly kick in for fuel). I don't know the area at all and will also have a very full vehicle as I am stopping on my way to Vegas for a different event that I produce.

My current plan is to depart Portland on Friday morning and hit Sacramento in the late afternoon / early evening.

Keith from Portland
