Time to add some moon and stars. I measured painter tape to use as a straight line. Then I painted the line and then the stars. |

Look at how young we were in that photo.... Hard to believe that was 2018. Did you get a room and tickets for Oasis? |

We didn't even try for a room at Tiki Oasis or tickets. You never know about the future though. It's an EPIC event for sure. I have retired from the art show choosing to work on the Wish List orders. 2018 one of the last years of being young!!! Thank you for the wonderful comment on this painting. |

There are many steps to getting it the best it can be. Simple things like a floor in the event hall. Making sure there are enough layers on plants that they show up. I did a lot of that in these photos. |

The original painting had nothing at the top and bottom, just black velvet. Crystal wanted sky, moon and stars. That means to balance it I need to do a foreground. I will add sand and plants that are close to the viewer of the painting. To start I add my name. Then I will build the garden to hide it. I've always thought that names on paintings detract from the art. Here's how I paint my name. |

I just saw that it is now working for hang10tiki under the carving page. I did a test, and it looks like it's up and running for me too. I'm going to start doing catch up for my current painting. Thank you for offering the help. I lightened the areas where the torches are located. Here's an example.

The painting is finished. I use a black light to find the dust. I use a brush and blue painters tape to remove it. What remains doesn't show up in regular light. I framed it. Added the hanger, plastic buttons. Wrapped in tissue paper for the journey. Off it went. |

hang10tiki thank you. It was another challenge that I enjoyed. I already have my next wish challenge to start on. ================================================================= Part One Michael Stegemann had a desire so strong for a Munktiki mug that he bought one that was broken bases on the fact I would help him out and repair it. Here's how it went. It arrived. I assessed the damage to each antler and found a small chip at the base. I sprayed water on the areas needing putty to slow down the drying process.
Elmer's wood filler is the best product for repairing ceramics.
I used fine grain sandpaper, a label scrapper and a diamond file. The excess glue from the repair needed heavy duty sanding to get it flat. If you glue always wipe off the excess.

Part Two: repairing a Munktiki mug for Michael Stegemann. I mixed enamel paint and covered the repair. I also found a brown paint for the bottom chip. When the diamond was glued in excess glue showed around it. This I also removed, now it's prettier.
All done and when it dried, I packed it. Forst with tissue paper because enamel paint in contact with peanuts or plastic can melt and stick. Then bubble wrap. Weighed on my trusty old scale and off we went to the post office.
It's now in his hands for the first time and he's glad he bought the broken mug.
Another wish granted!!! |

The 2025 Tiki Central Art Swap has begun. Run by MadDogMike. The theme is a tiki necklace in any medium. I've started by choosing a tiki from Dan's collection as inspiration. Then I printed a photo of the tiki and cut the foam board to match. I will be doing a black velvet painting hung on a shell necklace. I hand-stitched the black velvet to cover the foam board. Now it's time to paint. [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2025-06-01 11:00:26 ] |

Ryan Stowe was on my Wish List in 2022 and came up with the idea of the bullfighter with a Frankoma War God head. I did that for him then he won another of my paintings on eBay show in the picture, Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. When I did the bullfighter for him, he asked to go on the list again and now his turn has come. First steps to a painting having the wisher pick out a frame from my collection and then prepping the velvet. This is not velveteen, it's $75 a yard velvet. It takes more layers to have the painting show up but it's worth it.
