Awesome! More air than wood in that carve!

BigT - All that "air" is known as "extra credit"!

We have 60 purses & 20 hats for Hukilau this year.
You know they're not Tiki with out a Tiki on them, right?
I have a lot of pendants to carve.

Cheers

I made up 2 pieces for the Mai-Kai.

Those are looking great Will!

Those are great!

H

Very nice.

WC

A year &1/2 ago I picked up several fresh palm logs.
I carved 3 or 4 of them for Hukilau last year.
Real fresh. Couldn't put a finish on them, too wet.
I finished 2 of them now. They're really light now.

I still have several of those logs.
They are really dry & light. Too dry & corky.
I let them go too long.
I can hardly get any detail I kept it simple.
So I cut the log in half.
They are like 2 giant pendants.
The left is the pendant for our carve class
at hukilau this year.

My man
Awesome

Nice Will. Yeah, i'd like to see some pics of someone wearing those big ones for pendants. That would be awesome! If you want to ship one of them to Houston, I'll do it!

When David Phantomatic of Marooned: The Texas Tiki Podcast came to The Mai-Kai last July and inquired about doing a show, I knew I had to get Will involved in a walking tour. He has such a wealth of information about his work and the Tikis on display on the grounds. We just had to capture it on professional audio.

Well, it's been a long time in editing, but the show has finally hit the airwaves ...

Click here to listen in your Web browser:
https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/maroonedpodcast/episodes/2019-05-31T00_00_00-07_00
The podcast is also available on all major podcasting platforms: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher.

It was an honor to participate with Will, David and manager Kern Mattei. It’s a real Tiki museum audio walking tour. Download and listen at your leisure, or put on the headphones and go for a walk around the grounds and check out Will's handiwork as you listen to him talk about it.

Mahalo Will for all that you do. Okole maluna!

Hukilau was wild.
Big fun had by all.
Thanks to every one who rubbed elbows with me.
My carve class went well.
No body died.

So Dave at the Mai-Kai called me 2 weeks ago.
He wanted to give Richard at the Hukilau a trophy.
I asked "like a bowling trophy".
Dave said "ya".
Kinda short notice but,
I cobbled this together.
Sorta Gilligan Islandish.

That’s awesome lil buddy

Spotted at The Hukilau: South Florida artists united ...

The presentation: Dave scolds Richard for his choice of jacket ;>)

Nice to see the trophy up and showing, great job.

WC

Thank you Hilda.
I haven't carved since my carve class.
This is the pendant I carved doing my class.
I hadn't finished it & I keep thinking about
the fire knife dancer in the Mai-Kai show.
He stomps his feet on the ground &
sticks his tong out.
I wondered if I could carve that tong action.

Super good tong action Will!

Thank you CY.
However,
One look at that &
I knew I had to go bigger!

Also I went to the Mai-Kai last night.
My friend the Good Dr. saw my pendant & had to have it.
Then it was his.

And then,
Tiki Shark Art Brad cruised by. That was a surprise.

This was different.
My bud is a wood worker. He does straight stuff.
I asked for 2 2x12s glued at an angle
[just guessing] roughly 110 degrees.

Nice
That saves sum time
I like

Man, people love Moai's.
They tell me do mo a these.
So the mo I do.
The Moai do.

Great work Will!

S

Moais are awesome and that last one is great.

I've been working on some Mai-Kai molds.
The three on the outside are for the garden &
the two facing you are going in the gift store.
These are two of my favorite Barney West castings.

Wow, a great carve with bonus points for the space between the arms and torso Willy!

Need an update!!

I can't believe how long this took to carve.

I can't believe it weighs 6&1/2 pounds.
It's 17 in tall & Mahogany.

The grind adjustment.

The transmission.
[Makes the square rod in the head
turn the grinder in the bottom]

This is how you fill it.

The grinder on the bottom & lightening holes.

I guess we can see why
these take so long.

The end.

My eyes fell out

Give me a second

Ok
I’m back

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

H

That is freakin' AMAZING.

That grinder is nothing to sneeze at Will, killer work, love the teeth!!

WC

Cy's got it.
But it's gaz-hun-tite when the pepper fly's.

So I tried something different.
The swivel part between the
neck & head falls short.
I used a 1&1/2 in PVC pipe & a pressure fitting
because they're so well fitted.
I glued them in place & man do they work well.

Up & coming.
#2 of the 3 panels my bud made up for me.

Will Anders, Tom Fowner and Glen Hoyer discussing beer and tiki at Pleasure Tiki's...

[ Edited by: PleasureTiki 2019-11-10 08:02 ]

This Ku panel is done.
It's 36 in tall X 18in wide X 2in thick.
Pine 2x10 shelving board.
I have one more panel this size left to do.

I thinkin 6ft X 3ft standing,
will see.
