Hahaha! Foai Moai...good stuff :)

Those look amazing.

I thought you were gonna make a bobble-head out of that guy!

surfintiki Ya I thought the same thing
if the grinder does'nt work out the bobble head would.

Mike, spalting, not. That sounds too romantic.
Bad spot in more like it. But it's OK.

Keylo, This wood is mahogany. Real different from
mango. Chippy, but grinds & sands nice.

I finished it with rub on poly.

So after 2 practice swings I'm ready to get these
legs going.

Definitely some gnarly Lonos there! Nice unique style! Good work on the legs ... it's tough for me to get symmetry on the same tiki! To duplicate the same look on multiple sticks is impressive!

you do some intricate stuff, brave too! I would be afraid I would break something that complicated

Holy smokes
U da man

One of things that Will and I discuss all the time (during Happy Hour) - is how people underestimate the strength of wood. Wood is very strong and is a material that humans have been trying to simulate for years - it is more resiliant than you may think. The really difficult thing is allowing your creative vision to dictate how you use the wood not the shape of the wood. There are times when the shape may accent the overall design (I know I'm very guilty of that), but to create a carving that looks nothing like a log is challenging. Carve Deep!!!

I'm 3/4 thru ruffing them out.
My plan is to get all of them to a level.
Then take all of them to the next level.
They'll come out the same, that way.
I'm a fearless man.
Ain't skeered.

these are fantastic! I hope I don't offend but all I can think of was these would look as balausters on a railing too!

P

hell yeah bro...

N

Those are looking super sweet Will. Cant wait to see the project complete.

I thought they were rolling pins until I realized there's only a handle on one end. Great work Will.

Grand Poobah I thought the same thing when I saw that pic.
Think how cool a staircase would look with those balusters & gigantic Moais at the landings like 4 or 5 ft tall. How bout if their eyes lit up to illuminate the staircase at night automatically as you ascend or descendin the dark.
Mike could you imagine what the cookics you rolled out would look like.

That is some good stuff right there!! awesome awesome

H

Fearless Will :) I love your last picture it shows the evolution of Moai going from one end to the other.

That's the same thought I had! That'd be awesome! Great work Will!

This will give you something to do when you run out of projects - a Tiki Springerle pin :D

B

Looking good Willie boy, why don't you do a GIANT one? :]

There's strenght in numbers but I like Benzart's idea. It goes without saying but "Nice work" anyway.

H

Will, now he is amongst friends.

P

WC

All right,
Hilda scores!
What a great spot for your Tiki spoon.
And in such good company.
A Leroy & a Benzart, you are a lucky girl.
Thanks for the pic.

Check out these grumpy guys.
Now we'll see what kind of table my bud makes.

P

"Modernist Lono"

So I jumped on it

Wow! I did a good job cutting that out for you.

Those table legs turned out great! Good job! The modern art Lono is interesting as well .... nice twist to the old Hawaiian traditional tiki!

Well, this was different.
I'm gonna do one more & see if
I can carve it deeper.

N

That looks awesome! Nice work.

S

I really like this guy, what is it carved from. looks like 1 x 12 +/- pine??

M

That is sweet panel work! Can't wait to see more of this format.

Mahalo

McTiki

You're right on Skooter.
It's 2X12 pine From Home Depo. Carves good,
with sharp tools.
That seems some how less romantic
& less significant but still took like 10 hours.

P

WOW!!!

10 hours???

You are WAAAAY more patient than I am Will!!!

Looks awesome though. A bit a of a radical departure from what I am accustomed to seeing in your thread, and I like that!

Man, this is great work!!!

A

I like the low key finish on a Modernist tiki. You'd think one would go with color. Nice take...keep us guessin'!

Yep!! I think you nailed it!! Nice job!

Awesome work on the table legs Will.

Will I like that weathered finish, looks like it was carved from driftwood

WC

And yet another.
Something more traditional for me.
This is a chunk of Mahogany.
They seem so far away at this point.
Like you'll never get to the end.

H

Oh goody a chunky one, can't wait to see what happens.

C

Just saw the panel, late on the bandwagon, but I really like it, like everything
else on your thread. Fun stuff.
