Beautiful finish.

And yet another.
This is the 3rd of the fan palm.
The first 2 were the pits but I slugged thru them.
This one is not great but better.
I'm not so sure Over Drive will work out
for my shift knob.
He's kinda ostentatious,
& the tail wags the dog.
We'll have to try another one.

Will, I want to know who told you ostentatious was a bad thing in Tikis?
ROCK ON!

P

yeah, I have to admit, I've been kinda avoiding the fan palms and just lookin' for sable & coconut...

but that one's lookin' good Will...

Interesting work bench. Does it hop around during your mallet work? Maybe I should spend more time sharpening chisels. I tend to rely too much on brute force.

Ostentatious, ya
it shows up the car.

Amate that log is 100 lbs.
It doesn't go any place.
I can roll it back & forth &
you know I like to keep 2 hands on my tool.

Amate, with a bench like that you sharpen your chisels right there on the leg on the bench.

One for support - the other for whackin

Those shells for eyes look cool. They look like octopus eyes. If you're a Rat Fink kinda guy & are into Ed "NEWT" Newton & Thom Taylor hot rod cartoons, then it fits the car perfectly. Osten-what? Bodaciously Badass, that's what!

Today I'm thankful for my apposing thumb
so I can carve.
Here's an update Pilgrim.

P

Done carving this guy.
He's Still too wet to finish but
when he drys a lil I'll give him some color

Nice calves. That dude's definitely been working out. Good job.

H

He is wonderful, great design.

Time for a Tang with a wang.
This is an old weathered, worm eaten oak log.
Hoping it will ad to the charm.
This wood is very hard.
GROG will be passing out cigars
like a proud parent.

Yay!

P

nice Will...

and yeah, I had my first experience with making stuff out of oak the other day, and wow, it's like iron...gawd...

going to be a good 1

The checking and colors of that log are gonna be good accents.

too hard- you wussies are too used to palm ;]

looks like this is going to be awesome...

Well,
I guess I've got this thing
just about ruffed out.
Most every thing is going as it should.
But, does the color of the wood
make his wang look big??

Nice work Will and yes the color of the wood definitely makes his pecker look engorged.

2nd that.

It was just a joke Guys.
It's not the color of the wood.
It is big.

Only thing left to finish
is the finish.
This log has trashed 3 of my chisels.
It's a tuff ol dude.
Just look at the cracks running thru it.

"Huge Props" Will carve, an excellent job on that oak tang. I think the crack looks great and adds character. Merry Christmas!

P

very cool...and yeah, I bet it was a tough one to cut. I cut some oak branches for a neighbor recently and wow....afterward the chain on my saw looked like I had taken a hammer to it...I mean just beyond re-sharpening...

glad you posted this...I've got the holiday "I can't get motivated to work on anything" syndrome & need some inspiration.

hope you're having a nice holiday Will...

Awesome Xmas time tiki

M

He's packin! Nice job!

Your tools must be sharp! Beautiful!

Mahalo!

McTiki

Wow! Very awesome!!

I've had a chance to spend some time with this one and can tell you it has a dirty little secret that kinda adds to the over all petina of the wood. The oak has beautiful coloring in the spalting. Can't wait to see how you finish it - or if it is finished?

Awesome work Will!

GROG posted on Fri, Dec 28, 2012 10:51 AM

AWESOME!!

What kind of chisel did you use to carve the cracks? They look so real.

Thanks for the comments gang.
I can't think of any thing I want to carve &
I don't have any logs I want to get started.
So, guess I'll bang on my Tang some more.

I started chopping the body thinner.
Then I wasn't happy with the mouth so
I wiped it clean & I'll try again.

Also,
The secret hiding under his oaken skin,
that Aloha alluded to?
There is an army of worms marching thru this log.
These holes are so big I can fit my finger down them.

Ouch Will a worm invested Tang is no laughing matter. Plenty of fresh veggies, water and garlic.

K

sweet work on the tripod lol i found that oak really but my tools to the test. i have come across worms in the wood before but nothing like that. i dig the way the holes look but how would you go about getting rid of the worms? anyway sweet work bro.
