Found these on Arkiva Tropika

Just picked up this napkin from the Hula Shack dated 1942. It seems as though they may have added Jade to the name sometime later.

Cool, DC - I didn't know this location was around that early.

Trad'r Bill,

Here is the story that came with the napkin I purchased, pretty cool.

The year was 1942, World War II was raging, and a young Mrs. White had come all the way from Houston to the Bay Area to say goodbye to her husband Frank, a navy sailor being sent out to war. One of their last cocktails was at the famous Hula Shack, also known as Jade Hula Shack. Mrs. White kept this napkin as a memento of their farewell and placed it in her scrapbook where it has remained untouched for all these years. The date was March 1942 and she documented this event, as well as many others, in her diary-scrapbook. Date written next to napkin on album page.

That photo folder you posted from Mimi's website is dated 1944, so the name changed somewhere in between 1942 and 1944. Wonder why?

Here is the pic from the inside of Mimi's souvenir frame.

More sailors getting ready to be shipped off. A very cool looking 3D relief image of the wahine drinking the coconut and the palm tree.

In either February or March of 1943 the Hula Shack was bought by Harry Pike and Larry Potter, who owned the Hollywood clubs Stardust and Jade. They renamed it Jade Hula Shack, remodeled, and introduced a floor show.

It appears Tiki Central is pretty dead these days, but if there's anyone still following this thread, here's some more info on the Jade Hula Shack. These files are compilations of material found on the internet, including TC, All duly credited...
