Where's the backside? Did you give him a butt? After he eats that little guy, he's gotta have way to poop that sucker out!

He looks good. We'll have to make a mug of that guy.

Silly Grog

My Tikis don't poop

Working on another lil cannibal to give away at Oasis...

Is this one going to have a butt to poop out?

Great stuff Hang10! Beautiful carvings.

Found a lil sumpin sumpin in my driveway

Its all good! I think the clock conversion is so cool! That (and the birdhouse) is such a clever way of taking something ordinary and putting a tiki spin on it.

I don't know bro, looking at the colors on that birdie, looks like a burled up piece of aromatic cedar, and it would probably finish in a SPECTACULAR manner...

I think that if you did a little maori panel carve on it, and then sanded it to like 220 & poly'ed it, it might blow your mind...

this is a piece of cedar I sanded & poly'ed for a buddy a few months ago to make a little table... just something to think about....

Poobah- glad u like
5160- I wish it was. I'd love to try something on the cedar u get.

Started a new one from my neighbors tree

Does your neighbor know you cut down his tree?

Not yet

Next step

Holes drilled in eyes, time to core out the top
So I can put a light in his head

I wish the swap was tomorrow, oh wait my piece isn't done yet! I sure like the ice plant growing out of the head. Good work all around, Wendy

H10, I thought about trying my hand at carving some time ago and finally started the chips flying bout a week ago.
My goal is to create a Marquesan style tiki 37" tall x 10" or so. I picked up a 4’ x 12’ piece of palm lying in a field behind Toucans tiki lounge in Palm Springs a couple of weeks ago. No rot, no Splits. I debarked it carefully with a demo saw and was ready to start when I got cold feet. Did not want to wreck a really nice piece of palm so i decided to “learn” on some shorter 12-15’ dia. well dried chunks I have been procrastinating on.
Anyway, I was very pleased with the progress I was making so far and then I made the error of checking out your 18 pages from start to present. Your skills were apparent from the beginning and just got better and better. This is inspirational to this novice and also very intimidating and daunting. I’m gonna keep at it and only hope mine are half as nice as yours.
Keep the chips flying Jon!

H

Interesting piece you are working on. Looking forward to seeing the final project.

Wendy- well hello lil lady, thanks for stopin by. See you in Nov.
We are glad u guys can fit us into your Vegas trip.

Nui umi umi- let's see the pics bruddah. Remember it's all about the fun.
For me it's a lil getaway
Ps- my first 10 or so tikis ended up as fire wood
You should be able to find a lot of Palm down there.
Contact a tree trimmer n tell them you will take em off their hands.
Look for inspiration, draw, and have fun.
Cheers
:)

Hiltiki- thanks, glad u like it. It's fun to do the art swaps.
I've done 3 and ended up with 3 great items for my bar.

Hey nice job, working with a bit of an irregular shape piece of wood
your design fits nicely.

T

Nice, hang10. Way to work with the natural shape of the log. I love the weathered look it already has.
