while the GF and I were looking at homes, many had breezeways and I immediately thought of your pad! does your breezeway lead to the front yard? or is it the side/back yard? The ones we looked at seemed to have both, I just didn't want to advertise to passing cars what I had in case they saw something they liked, lol. love your pad, and Ive right clicked a lot of your photos, so you will see a lot of your designs in our new pad!
thanks for all your pix!
paul

Hey Paul, on the first page of this thread, you can see the outside of my house. The olive colored door with the diamond window is The Breezeway door. So it leads out, to the side of my house… But… I'm on a corner, so I guess it's kind of the front of the house too-ish…

When the lights are on, I can hear people walking by, talking about the 'tiki house'. I guess people know what I have in there, but I kinda figure that the average person isn't trying to break into houses to steal tiki stuff… PLUS… I have a very loud, snarly dog who has free reign of the whole back yard and he does an amazing job at barking people away. He gets SO pissed when people walk by.

Oh, and I'm stoked to hear that I've inspired your design ideas a bit. Just about everything I've done has been inspired from somewhere else as well… It's all the 'reinterpreting and reinventing' of others ideas that makes it fun to work on!

oh very cool!!! love the fact that the door has a push bar and is a Dutch door to boot!!! super super cool!!! Ive got three big boxers that sound frightening but are really pussy cats, so I can keep out the unta-mention from stealing my priceless crap too!!!

Just wait! One day, there will be some new band fusing rockabilly with hula in Spain, Sweden or Australia.....and they will cite YOU as an influence!

Haha… We'll see…

Sooo…..

It took 4 separate moving crews, three different electricians, and some of my own repair work on leaky pipes and broken filters to get this hot tub into my life. With my luck so far, I half expected all of the walls to collapse and leave me on the ground in a puddle, as I got in. I'm happy to say, 'so far, so good though...'

My buddy let me know about this 'free' hot tub. I always thought that only millionaires and OC Fair sweepstake winners could own these...

The deck and tiki-fication project will start in a couple of weeks. Until then... I'm gonna cook myself.

BTS of the pin-up photoshoots that happened last night, in The Breezeway.
Say hi to Tara MiSioux and Tamara Von Tart!

OMG! Gorgeous chix and tikis!!!! God, I gotta get my backyard up and running again so I have hotties come over!!! lol

You're a bad man, Spike!

Another photo shoot went down this past Sunday evening… Hopefully for Bachelor Pad Magazine!
The amazing David Rocha was the photog. Can't wait to see how they come out!

Laides and gentlemen, the super beautiful Aussie, Miss Jessamyne Rose.
Here's some behind the scenes:

I'm so glad that I carved this tiki… Its proved to be very useful...

While we're at it, here's a bonus kitchen one (with my guitar)...

Hey, we eat off that counter!

I'll bet you'll never think of that guitar the same way ever again!!

And I know I've said it before but I have to say it again - I love, LOVE, LOVE that fountain!!!!!

No kidding, Lori! Forget the guitar, I'll never look at my kitchen counter the same again!

Soooo… these 1950's-era Papua New Guinea spears arrived from eBay, last night.

Thought they would be good behind the water spitter guy…

Tada!

Looks great & a bit dangerous!

Your home is beautiful, the attention to detail really brings it alive. Great work and please keep posting updated pictures

Thanks, MissClaire!

Starting to get some of the edited photos back from the shoot with Tamara Von Tart… Thought I'd share...

I came back from Viva Las Vegas to find a horrible palm tree massacre outside of The Breezeway window... My gardeners did what I probably pay them to do and trimmed the trees way down... So all of the sudden, we find The Breezeway super exposed to passer-by-ers, nosey neighbors, and potential burglars (the lights are nothing but a 'hey look over here beacon from the street). So after some heavy contemplation, this was the solution... Yeah, pretty unimaginative or whatever... But it's temporary and doesn't look too bad.

WTF? A picture of The Breezeway with no hot babes. I'm disillusioned, Spike!

I hope one day my bar/yard area is good enough for hot chix to come take photos in too!!! way to go!!! oh, and your bar looks good even without the hot girls too

Haha… Thanks, guys!

soooooooooooooo, how do you get half naked woman to come to your pad anyway? oh, and can I borrow your guitar? : )

…with rum

So the problem with modern above ground jacuzzis is that they kinda look dumb just standing alone… just like a big square thing in your yard. I looked at the space and saw that my patio does this round thing as it meets the grass. It occurred to me to do a retro, round tub jacuzzi surround (but tikified)!

So this is the beginning of framing it out...

Cutting the boards to make the circle that will surround it.

Beginning of framing it out…

And totally framed with a blurry Astro in the foreground. There will be red rope lighting in the opening, under the thing there… It'll be like this glowing, floating, tribal cauldron thing… There will be a round burned and wire brushed deck on top of the boards there too...

Then, I got to carving…

FIFTY, yeah, fifty of these panels to face the surround.

After some burning and wire brushing, this is a quick mock-up of how I'm going to lay them up.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through burning and brushing the fifty panels… It's long, dirty, tedious work…
Should be cool when it's all done though!

Stay tuned!

This looks like it's going to be awesome!

Do an extra 10 for a hose cover

BK

Very cool, man! I'll bring my swim trunks, in November! HAHA!

Right on, Rick!
And yeah, good idea, Ben! I wasn't expecting The Breezeway to continue out into the yard… Guess I have to start thinking about bamboo for the outside of the house now, too!

I thought "The Breezeway" was swimsuit optional?

This is going to look sweet

Jon

Really nice. Can't wait to see it finished.

  • Dale

Starting to seal the panels with some Thompson's WaterSeal… Those big planks in the background are the beginning of the actual deck that will be cut and screwed on…

Damn, I want to get this finished!!

And thanks, Dale!

T

This whole thing is looking amazing! I love any place with moving water, too. But what became of that great conical black fireplace? You need that up on a pedestal near the hot tub, tikified somehow, with a real wood fire blazin' away inside!

Yeah, I don't know what to do with that thing… My yard isn't as big as I'd like it to be…. It'll find a spot though!

Using a flame thrower in 103 degree heat, seemed like such a great idea yesterday... Torching the last of 8 planks that will make up the deck to The Breezeway hot tub.

Well, that kicks the crap out of my little Bernz-O-Matic!

That's crazy Matt! you should be surfing instead of trying to get heat stroke.

K

Hurry up and finish that thing and put some girls in the pictures. Damn it.

Well go big or go home! :)

Thanks Humuhumu!

Is it another porn shoot?

Here's a recently edited photo from the shoot with my buddy, Red Dodge.

Are the diamonds to the left behind Red reflecting Red to orange ??

Or is that the "edit" part.

Great pic!

Oh yeah, wonder what's up with that, Ben?
They're still the same orange that you painted them!

Here's the photo without the weird digital compression that TC puts on it.

Well, this isn't a photo from The Breezeway, but it IS in my house… and there's a tiki in the picture…
Can't wait to see this new issue of Bachelor Pad magazine!

And now, Miss Jessamyne Rose

Looking good!!!
