On the subject of surprise remodel TV shows

Here's my tale of a near miss...
Ground Force, a BBC garden re-vamp show, was going to be shooting in the Southern US in March, so Mr. Jade, bless his heart, put in an application to surprise me with a tiki garden. They called him and said they were very touched by his story and set up an interview with him to see the space. He said the two women from the BBC seemed very interested, they said the space was just what they were looking for, but the horticulturist from Florida they had to advise them seemed to have doubts that tropical plants would do well in New Orleans (?). That must have been enough to blow our chances because he never heard back from them, so he eventually told me what he'd tried to do. sigh
And now I'm just waiting to be bitter when I see the garden they did do in N.O.

I am so sorry! I love Ground Force! It would have been so great to see them do a tiki garden!

I do wish Charlie would put on a bra and tie her hair back.

Aw, I can't say anything against Charlie, I don't like to garden with a bra on either.

The biggest disappointment is, I was so looking forward to kissing Tommy, he's such a doll!

Charlie should always swing free, she's a big hit with my dad and father in-law.

Does it get below freezing in N.O. ? It never has here in Key West, but it certainly does in mainland FL.

It occasionally dips below freezing, but it's not usually sustained. Nothing that can't be managed with a few blankets. Thing is I already have a lot of tropicals. My hibiscus (hibisci?) are in pots so I can pull them inside if I need to, but usually I just cover them. Same with my tibouchina and bromeliads. Also, bird-of paradise, yellow ginger, bouganvilla, palmetto, elephant ears, etc. all do fine here. I think there are enough hardy tropicals to do it, I know a lot of people have tropical gardens here.
