Boy, bring a bowl of China here,
Fill it with water cool and clear;
Decanter with Jamaica ripe,
And spoon of silver, clean and bright,
Sugar twice-fin’d in pieces cut,
Knife, sieve, and glass in order put,
Bring forth the fragrant fruit, and then
We’re happy till the clock strikes ten.

All the more reason to head over to the TIKI TI tonight, because...Thursday night is always $6 Tiki Rum Punch night at the TIKI!

Anyone have any idea what goes into the Tiki Ti Punch???

Rum.........and punch

Here is the recipe for a basic Rum Punch
I don't have the Bum's book close by at the moment, but there is a recipe in that also.

RUM PUNCH

Splash of lemon juice
2 Cups Cruzan light rum
2 liters ginger ale
1 qt. fruit punch
1 qt. orange juice or pineapple juice
ice cubes

Pour into punch bowl. Stir well. To serve: pour over one ice cube in each glass.

RUM PUNCH FOR A CROWD

1 (46-ounce) can orange juice
1 (46-ounce) can pineapple juice
1 (16-ounce) can Coco Lopez
16 ounces of Cruzan Rum Dark
Roses Grenadine, for added color and flavor
Fresh seasonal fruit for garnish

Combine all ingredients, except the garnish. Chill. It will make about 16 8-ounce servings.
Decorate the punch bowl base with artificial tropical flowers. Add garnish.

Happy National Rum Punch Day!

My suggestion - Cesar's Rum Punch. This packs in a nice solid 2 ounces of lime juice which the other ingredients and the crushed ice balance out very nicely. If you have a surplus of limes, this is a good way to use them before they go bad. Follow directions carefully. I used the Tiki+ app recipe and made mine with Barbancourt 12 and it was superb, kind of an overkill rum for a cocktail, but hey, you only live once, right? Cheers!

Hi Chester! The recipe is posted on the Atomic Grog blog with some great historical details and notes - thanks to Hurricane Hayward:

http://www.slammie.com/atomicgrog/blog/2016/02/21/top-tiki-mixologists-take-their-talents-to-south-beach-wine-food-festival-for-cocktail-showdown/#cesars-rum-punch

I personally used the recipe shown in the Total Tiki app - it had a couple minor variations attributed to Jeff Berry's version published in "Intoxica" on page 24:

  • Instead of a teaspoon of sugar, a teaspoon of sugar syrup (aka 1:1 "simple syrup")
  • Instead of 3 dashes Angostura bitters, three drops of Angostura bitters (dashes vs drops are not the same,
but in this drink i's more personal preference, I opted for the drops)

I think either version is fine. The tartness of the lime juice is nicely balanced and offset by the Grenadine, simple syrup, and Angostura.

For those who are new to cocktails, or exploring this stuff, I think it is helpful to note that you may find that this drink starts out very strong and tart, but because of the crushed ice, it "settles" quickly as dilution occurs. Therefore what you start with is not what you end with. And therefore this is a drink you do not want to let sit for 20 minutes; too much dilution will come to have a negative impact on the cocktail. So don't nurse it.

I initially selected this drink because it uses 2 ounces of lime juice. I have a first-ever crop of limes from a new tree, so I'm trying to use my limes before they go bad. I really enjoyed this punch and have since made (and shared) it three times. It's a hit except to a few who judge it by the first sip before it dilutes a bit.

Make it and enjoy!!!!

Thanks for sharing the recipe with me Ace. I actually don't own any Rhum Barbancourt 3 Star so I’ll have to go out and find some to make this.

Cheers!
