Don’t think she understands that I want to be there for you as you were for me all those years ago when I needed somebody so bad. Did try to not show how bad off I was back then but that changed when we met. She has never been a jealous type I think that me loosing weight and looking better might be part of the reason? Farmers drove their wagons filled with produce to the first small, one-story market built in 1814. The second market, built in 1832, supplied an increasing population with meat and vegetables. In 1863 a heavy snow crushed the roof, causing a tragic collapse of the bustling marketplace. The third farmers' market opened in 1864. In consisted of a first floor for market and a second floor for city offices. Hundreds of farm wagons would be hitched to trees and posts for several blocks in all directions three days a week. Cabs and drays clattered up Market Street from two railroad stations. Hotels with large dining rooms eventually opened their doors to accommodate the increasing commerce in Zanesville. On such hotel and the Barnett which stood on the site of the present-day Old Market House Inn. The third market place was destroyed by fire in 1912. After a long controversy, the present building was completed in 1919 and serves Zanesville for nearly thirty years. After World War II, area residents began to patronize supermarkets and in 1946 the final farmers' market was closed and the entire building converted to city offices. In 1974 James L. Adornetto Purchased this building, then known as the Casino Restaurant, from Tony Saup. Mr. Adornetto engaged Coburn Morgan, a renowned restaurant designer from Columbus, Ohio. Using London, England's oldest operating riverside pub, the prospect of Whitby, as a model, they orchestrated an extensive nine-month renovation of the historic building. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers Johnny, George, and daughter Kathy (Pabst) and is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary; sister, Virginia (Hunter); sons, Robert Jr. and Patti, Tommy and Joyce, Danny (Mcquirt) and Patty; daughter, Sandy (Darrah); grandsons, Billy, Brandon, Shilo, Max, Sam, Alex, Patrick, Matthew; granddaughters, Britni, Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Logan, Lillie and Julian. After some time I found out it was Lori Parrish nothing ever happened more than that dance. Years latter I found out she had married and had kids, I found this out because she died of breast cancer in her late 30s, she was gone, so sad. Well Andys girlfriend got married years latter, not to Andy and she was found dead in her living room naked. She had been doing drugs with some guy and her husband came home and found her the guy ran off with their car. Well her twin sister died a year later, I don't know what of but how odd. However, this presumption is not conclusive if the purchaser's patronage would be difficult to justify commercially in view of the facts and circumstances. In that case, other factors should also be considered in determining whether a commercial benefit can be expected. Those other factors include: The normal manner in which the publication is circulated; The territorial scope of the circulation; The extent to which its readers, promoters, or the like could reasonably be expected to further, either directly or indirectly, the commercial interest of the advertisers; The eligibility of the publishing organization to receive tax-deductible contributions; and The commercial or noncommercial methods used to solicit the advertisers. In this situation, the purchaser of a separate advertising space without a commercial message can nevertheless expect a commercial benefit from the goodwill derived from being identified in that manner as a patron of the organization. However, the purchaser of a listing cannot expect more than an inconsequential benefit. Therefore, the sale of separate spaces, but not the listings, is an unrelated trade or business. Unrelated Business Income (UBI) Although 501(c) organizations are generally exempt from federal income tax, they do have to pay tax when carrying on regular business activities which are unrelated to their exempt purposes. The law governing unrelated business income (UBI) is a complex maze of exceptions, exclusions and modifications. The following list of "threshold" questions can be used to narrow down the field. a. Is the income producing activity a trade or business? A "no" answer means the income is not taxed as UBI. b. Is the activity regularly carried on? A "no" answer means the income is not taxed as UBI. c. Does the activity contribute importantly to the accomplishment of the organization's exempt purpose? If, after answering these questions, it appears the income under discus- sion might still be UBI, con-sider the following "modifications," set forth in section 512(b) of the Internal Revenue Code. Of course, there are a few exceptions within each category. A major overriding exception is "debt-financed" income. Some special rules apply to the computation of charitable contributions and net operating losses, and there is a $1,000 "specific deduction" - the exempt organization equivalent of a personal exemption. The form used to pay unrelated business income tax is Form 990-T, due at the same time as the Form 990 (the 15th day of the fifth month after the close of the accounting period). Exempt organi-zations are required to make estimated tax deposits if they expect to owe $500 or more of UBI tax. Caution: Form 990-T must be filed if gross unrelated income is $1,000 or more, whether there is any tax due or not. If you look at the Kahiki salt and pepper shakers they were in the same style of the Hoffman pottery moai mug made for the Kahiki. Did Kahiki request these be made to match these S and P shakers? What came first the Mug or the Shakers? The salt and Pepper shakers were not made by Hoffman but by OMC as we can see by the stickers on the bottom of the shakers. Kahiki salt and pepper shakers had many different markings on the bottom as well. So here is yet another Hoffman marking, this one is very early I would guess. The new bars restaurants lack the history, the people (the most important part) ghosts of the past you can feel when you go in the place. When I was taping the Kahiki when they were tearing it down the inside striped, hole in the roof sun shinning in the bare room, you could feel a odd vibe that I would say were the many ghosts/memories call it what you will but you could feel it. Often wondered if I was the last person in the Kahiki as they did not know I was in there and an hour later it was down. They tore it down fast as they did not want some nut like me chaining himself to the building. Sorry Swizz I said Kahiki again. BUT there are a few good new place yet to live and make their own history. The hard part is the class of people that made and went to these great places are gone and we are left with some goofs that just can't live up to the cool club of days gone by. Just being honest as to what you like is WAY harder and has way less rewards than being true to how you see things. The concrete had to be taken off as it was all falling off, the wires that held it on were rusting to a point Where they were not holding on the screen that held the concrete on the rebar. Somebody had said you could have as least covered it to protect it but that would not have kept the condensation and freezing snow and other weather from getting to it anyway. The damage was bit more noticeable after an author for the Kahiki book Myers I think it was put her foot through the eye area of the statue I should have not told them to go ahead and get on it for pictures. Hey, I guess this makes them the last people to be on top of the old Moai before the tear down. I joked about how that would bring bad luck to her. But the two guys who removed the concrete took only a bit over 3 hours to remove the concrete but did start to bust up the top knot it was perfect before that, I should have watched them closer. But about a month after that Tim Swanky Glasner and his wife Stephany came by for a visit, Tim wrote the book on the Mai Kai and told me about some of the improvements being made to the Mai Kai sounds like it will be even better when they get done. It was great to see the Glasner's again as Tim was the first TC persons I ever met way back when. The Mai Kai is not a small tiki bar and we need it to be around for as long as we can keep it around. I told him I would help in any way that I can as it is the best tiki restaurant/bar we have ever been to! Eye hole and last time the concrete was on. Top knot damage. Kinda cool to see how it was made my wife thought it would make a cool topiary. Tim and Stephany buy the Moai. And heck the guy I sold them to has them in a semi outdoor local that has them swinging in winds and even some weather blowing in from the sides and they are holding up for now. Found this little turtle swimming around in our pond the other day, he is cool and we were feeding him even. But then as we were feeding him one night he thought that eating one of our fish would be a good idea. Well he soon found out that is the quickest way to get kicked out of that pond so he had to go, we took him to a nearby pond and let him go. Too bad he was kinda cool, but eating our fish is a no no. Bring a suit as in pool not business. So here are a few Kahiki lights I have to work with, don't know why they had or even made lights that have no lights in them. You can see this in the "light" they just sold in the Oceanic arts auction # 824. I had two of these I put lights in so they would be lights. I can tell ya after all that work even, I did not get $1,230.00 each for them. Not even close. These are NOT from the Kahiki but from the Cleveland kon Tiki. This will surly save the world but till that time get all you can I say. Christmas without C9s I don't even want to live in that world. "What about LEDs they are so much better", I just don't like em. Might be the stubborn old guy in me or the three to four times the cost of them, maybe it's the blueish cast the regular LED bulbs give out. "Sure they cost more but they last longer" do they now, I was made to change the sockets and bulbs to LED bulbs on a few lights I sold to a place here and those lights looked fine after ( had to buy the even more costly antique looking LED bulbs) BUT my wife and I went into the place like three months after I sold them those lights and one light was out. And both those bulbs were brand new, heck they even just came out with the antique LEDs. How could this be those LEDs last forever! AND the guy said he just changed the other LED bulb the day before! So here is what they may have left out of the tests on these LED bulbs to get the results they wanted. Power outages, when I work at OSU changing light bulbs and then later on the High voltage crew I found that after a power outage the lights would be blown out all over campus. Working on the High voltage crew later when installing surge arrestors on High voltage switch gears I was told that when you throw the switch on after you fix that power outage a surge of power goes down the power line. These arrestors would take that surge to ground to save the switch gear. I never did find out if the lights on campus did not blow out as much after a power outage after we put in the surge arrestors, cuz hey I was no longer changing light bulbs and ballasts. It did help the save the switch gear, and we got less overtime due to blowouts. You get the same surge with lightning strikes only more so. Only wish I could live long enough to hear these new whippersnappers gripe when they get rid of LEDs they now like so well for some other new light. So after you remove the broken ribs you then replace them with new Pieces of rattan seen here. I saw that post by Jeff in collecting tiki and thought hey cool Jeff is posting and it's not just to promote a new book he is writing or a sale he has or a seminar Hes doing. Then I see he rips that Detroit tiki book that has a higher five-star rating than his book BTW. I do know and like Jeff but have seen over the years how he mostly does things for himself, but he always comes out smelling like a rose. I met Doug Motz once and acted like I did not know who he was, He was so put out, visibly put out. Thank you for that firsthand account of what you found. I hold the most stock in stuff like that as most times firsthand accounts don't come with an agenda to get you to think one way or the other. Be skeptical people and don't believe everything you are told people, that's all I ask. Ok on to some tiki stuff. Here is a new bar hanger barrel just did. used to find these all the time for like 5-10 bucks. Now they are $20.00 or more when I see them. Got about ten or more of them they would be great shelf stands. Just add some rope work and a hook plus a cork and yer done. Here are some molded resin items I made some time ago. so I have done this, "It's not so bad if somebody made one just for themselves" But what is your take on making a copy of a table lamp from the Kahiki that was from the 60s and the artist if you could find out who made it is most likely dead. (This is the second version and not the Marcy Sapp one we all knew who made that one) Made about five of those and sold three? Did let people know it was a copy. The thing is what do you do about a light you can't find any more and still want that light? you really end up covering the cost of making that light and end up with a few for yourself as any kind of pay off for making that light. Do try to keep the lights I made mostly things I have come up with but do look at others from the past for ideas. Have seen on here lights that are just like mine the more original ones I have done over time and one guy who I just asked to see a photo of it as it was in the background and he was all like "I have never even seen any of your lights" this was a long time TCer too that apparently never went to my light thread. Man it would be nice to at least say I got this idea from.... Do try to give credit when I directly use an idea, and have asked for permission to use others ideas like from a painting but have never used that idea after they said yes I just never got around to it. What's yer take on that. Funny you say that I told Mike about your tread here and he said he would check it out, but I also told him that if I showed you how to tie floats like I had just showed him you would be beating me in less than a year. Wish you did live nearby as we could make lights together. I did long ago show one person how to tie floats and asked him not to tell anyone he was in a tiki group and that group with him teaching did a seminar at one of their events on how to tie floats right after I showed him. Plus, a girl he knows well now sells more float lights than I do, I don't think she ties them the same way I do though to be honest. So, all that killed me wanting to do as many how tos. You know I was supposed to do an article in the new Tiki Mag on how to tie floats but it never happened kinda think the guy that worked for Amy was not so fond of me at that time is my best guess. "TikiSkip you know that would never work at a restaurant." Ha! the way Hospitals are run would not work in any business except government that's only because people MUST come to you and must put up with the way they are so poorly managed. My restaurant had a menu with prices, you knew what you were going to pay, at a hospital you have NO IDEA what kind of outrageous bill is coming. At my restaurant everybody pays the same for what they got, at a hospital some pay NOTHING and those people many times are the fine citizens that lay around and drink or do drugs all day and have no time for working AND those are the people that know how to get into the ER and many times are just looking for pain killers or a warm place to stay for a night, I talk to other nurse's. Time after time the day we went to the ER we would watch these people wheeled right into the back and get care right away. PLUS, it looks like some people don't even have to be citizens at all to get FREE health care just wait till that 6 plus million people get into your ERs over the next two years that does not even include the new babies that will be born here over that time.
